1 Moreover, the word of Yahweh came to me saying, The word of the LORD came to me: The word of the LORD came to me:
2 “Now as for you, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre “Now you, son of man, raise a lamentation over Tyre, “Son of man, take up a lament concerning Tyre.
3 and say to Tyre, who inhabits the entrance to the sea, a trader of the peoples to many coastlands, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “O Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’ and say to Tyre, who dwells at the entrances to the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, thus says the Lord GOD: “O Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’ Say to Tyre, situated at the gateway to the sea, merchant of peoples on many coasts, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “’You say, Tyre, “I am perfect in beauty.”
4 Your borders are in the heart of the seas; Your builders have perfected your beauty. Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders made perfect your beauty. Your domain was on the high seas; your builders brought your beauty to perfection.
5 They have made all your planks of fir trees from Senir; They have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you. 8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers; Your wise men, O Tyre, were aboard; they were your pilots. The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers; your skilled men, O Tyre, were in you; they were your pilots. Men of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen; your skilled men, Tyre, were aboard as your sailors.
9 The elders of Gebal and her wise men were with you repairing your seams; All the ships of the sea and their sailors were with you in order to deal in your merchandise. The elders of Gebal and her skilled men were in you, caulking your seams; all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you to barter for your wares. Veteran craftsmen of Byblos were on board as shipwrights to caulk your seams. All the ships of the sea and their sailors came alongside to trade for your wares.
10 “Persia and Lud and Put were in your military force, your men of war. They hung shield and helmet in you; they set forth your majesty. “Persia and Lud and Put were in your army as your men of war. They hung the shield and helmet in you; they gave you splendor. “’Men of Persia, Lydia and Put served as soldiers in your army. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls, bringing you splendor.
11 The sons of Arvad and your military force were on your walls, all around, and the Gammadim were in your towers. They hung their small shields on your walls all around; they perfected your beauty. Men of Arvad and Helech were on your walls all around, and men of Gamad were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they made perfect your beauty. Men of Arvad and Helek guarded your walls on every side; men of Gammad were in your towers. They hung their shields around your walls; they brought your beauty to perfection.
12 “Tarshish was your customer because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth; with silver, iron, tin, and lead they paid for your wares. “Tarshish did business with you because of your great wealth of every kind; silver, iron, tin, and lead they exchanged for your wares. “’Tarshish did business with you because of your great wealth of goods; they exchanged silver, iron, tin and lead for your merchandise.
13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were your traders; with the lives of men and vessels of bronze they paid for your merchandise. Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with you; they exchanged human beings and vessels of bronze for your merchandise. “’Greece, Tubal and Meshek did business with you; they traded human beings and articles of bronze for your wares.
14 Those from Beth-togarmah gave horses and war horses and mules for your wares. From Beth-togarmah they exchanged horses, war horses, and mules for your wares. “’Men of Beth Togarmah exchanged chariot horses, cavalry horses and mules for your merchandise.
15 The sons of Dedan were your traders. Many coastlands were customers at your hand; ivory tusks and ebony they brought as your payment. The men of Dedan traded with you. Many coastlands were your own special markets; they brought you in payment ivory tusks and ebony. “’The men of Rhodes traded with you, and many coastlands were your customers; they paid you with ivory tusks and ebony.
16 Aram was your customer because of the abundance of your goods; they paid for your wares with emeralds, purple, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and rubies. Syria did business with you because of your abundant goods; they exchanged for your wares emeralds, purple, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and ruby. “’Aram did business with you because of your many products; they exchanged turquoise, purple fabric, embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies for your merchandise.
17 Judah and the land of Israel, they were your traders; with the wheat of Minnith, cakes, honey, oil, and balm they paid for your merchandise. Judah and the land of Israel traded with you; they exchanged for your merchandise wheat of Minnith, meal, honey, oil, and balm. “’Judah and Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat from Minnith and confections, honey, olive oil and balm for your wares.
18 Damascus was your customer because of the abundance of your goods, because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth, because of the wine of Helbon and white wool. Damascus did business with you for your abundant goods, because of your great wealth of every kind; wine of Helbon and wool of Sahar “’Damascus did business with you because of your many products and great wealth of goods. They offered wine from Helbon, wool from Zahar
19 Also Vedan and Javan paid for your wares from Uzal; wrought iron, cassia, and sweet cane were among your merchandise. and casks of wine from Uzal they exchanged for your wares; wrought iron, cassia, and calamus were bartered for your merchandise. and casks of wine from Izal in exchange for your wares: wrought iron, cassia and calamus.
20 Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding. Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding. “’Dedan traded in saddle blankets with you.
21 Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, they were customers at your hand for lambs, rams, and goats; for these, they were your customers. Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your favored dealers in lambs, rams, and goats; in these they did business with you. “’Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your customers; they did business with you in lambs, rams and goats.
22 The traders of Sheba and Raamah, they traded with you; they paid for your wares with the best of all kinds of spices and with all kinds of precious stones and gold. The traders of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; they exchanged for your wares the best of all kinds of spices and all precious stones and gold. “’The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; for your merchandise they exchanged the finest of all kinds of spices and precious stones, and gold.
23 Haran, Canneh, Eden, the traders of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you. Haran, Canneh, Eden, traders of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you. “’Harran, Kanneh and Eden and merchants of Sheba, Ashur and Kilmad traded with you.
24 They traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of many colors and tightly wound cords, which were among your merchandise. In your market these traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of colored material, bound with cords and made secure. In your marketplace they traded with you beautiful garments, blue fabric, embroidered work and multicolored rugs with cords twisted and tightly knotted.
25 The ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your merchandise. And you were filled and were very glorious In the heart of the seas. The ships of Tarshish traveled for you with your merchandise. So you were filled and heavily laden in the heart of the seas. “’The ships of Tarshish serve as carriers for your wares. You are filled with heavy cargo as you sail the sea.
26 “Your rowers have brought you Into great waters; The east wind has broken you In the heart of the seas. “Your rowers have brought you out into the high seas. The east wind has wrecked you in the heart of the seas. Your oarsmen take you out to the high seas. But the east wind will break you to pieces far out at sea.
27 Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise, Your sailors and your pilots, Your repairers of seams, your dealers in merchandise, And all your men of war who are in you, With all your assembly that is in your midst, Will fall into the heart of the seas On the day of your downfall. Your riches, your wares, your merchandise, your mariners and your pilots, your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise, and all your men of war who are in you, with all your crew that is in your midst, sink into the heart of the seas on the day of your fall. Your wealth, merchandise and wares, your mariners, sailors and shipwrights, your merchants and all your soldiers, and everyone else on board will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck.
28 At the sound of the cry of your pilots The pasture lands will shake. At the sound of the cry of your pilots the countryside shakes, The shorelands will quake when your sailors cry out.
29 All who handle the oar, The sailors and all the pilots of the sea, Will come down from their ships; They will stand on the land, and down from their ships come all who handle the oar. The mariners and all the pilots of the sea stand on the land All who handle the oars will abandon their ships; the mariners and all the sailors will stand on the shore.
30 And they will make their voice heard over you And will cry bitterly. They will cast dust on their heads; They will wallow in ashes. and shout aloud over you and cry out bitterly. They cast dust on their heads and wallow in ashes; They will raise their voice and cry bitterly over you; they will sprinkle dust on their heads and roll in ashes.
31 Also they will make themselves bald for you And gird themselves with sackcloth; And they will weep for you in bitterness of soul With bitter mourning. they make themselves bald for you and put sackcloth on their waist, and they weep over you in bitterness of soul, with bitter mourning. They will shave their heads because of you and will put on sackcloth. They will weep over you with anguish of soul and with bitter mourning.
32 Moreover, in their wailing they will take up a lamentation for you And lament over you: ‘Who is like Tyre, Like her who is silent in the midst of the sea? In their wailing they raise a lamentation for you and lament over you: ‘Who is like Tyre, like one destroyed in the midst of the sea? As they wail and mourn over you, they will take up a lament concerning you: “Who was ever silenced like Tyre, surrounded by the sea?”
33 When your wares went out from the seas, You satisfied a great number of peoples; With the greatness of your wealth and your merchandise You enriched the kings of earth. When your wares came from the seas, you satisfied many peoples; with your abundant wealth and merchandise you enriched the kings of the earth. When your merchandise went out on the seas, you satisfied many nations; with your great wealth and your wares you enriched the kings of the earth.
34 Now that you are broken by the seas In the depths of the waters, Your merchandise and all your assembly Have fallen in the midst of you. Now you are wrecked by the seas, in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your crew in your midst have sunk with you. Now you are shattered by the sea in the depths of the waters; your wares and all your company have gone down with you.
35 All the inhabitants of the coastlands Are appalled at you, And their kings are horribly horrified; They are troubled in countenance. All the inhabitants of the coastlands are appalled at you, and the hair of their kings bristles with horror; their faces are convulsed. All who live in the coastlands are appalled at you; their kings shudder with horror and their faces are distorted with fear.
36 The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; You have become terrified, And you will cease to be forever.’”’” The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you have come to a dreadful end and shall be no more forever.’” The merchants among the nations scoff at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.’”
