1Then David said, "The house of the LORD God is to be here, and also the altar of burnt offering for Israel."1Then David said, “Here shall be the house of the LORD God and here the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”1Then David said, "This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel."1Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.1Then David said, "This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel."
2So David gave orders to assemble the foreigners residing in Israel, and from among them he appointed stonecutters to prepare dressed stone for building the house of God.2David commanded to gather together the resident aliens who were in the land of Israel, and he set stonecutters to prepare dressed stones for building the house of God.2So David gave orders to gather the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, and he set stonecutters to hew out stones to build the house of God.2And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.2So David gave orders to gather the foreigners that were in the land of Israel, and he appointed stonecutters to cut finished stones for building God's house.
3He provided a large amount of iron to make nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, and more bronze than could be weighed.3David also provided great quantities of iron for nails for the doors of the gates and for clamps, as well as bronze in quantities beyond weighing,3David prepared large quantities of iron to make the nails for the doors of the gates and for the clamps, and more bronze than could be weighed;3And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight;3David supplied a great deal of iron to make the nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, together with an immeasurable quantity of bronze,
4He also provided more cedar logs than could be counted, for the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought large numbers of them to David.4and cedar timbers without number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought great quantities of cedar to David.4and timbers of cedar logs beyond number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought large quantities of cedar timber to David.4Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.4and innumerable cedar logs because the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought a large quantity of cedar logs to David.
5David said, "My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it." So David made extensive preparations before his death.5For David said, “Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David provided materials in great quantity before his death.5David said, "My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the LORD shall be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore now I will make preparation for it." So David made ample preparations before his death.5And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.5David said, "My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly great and famous and glorious in all the lands. Therefore, I must make provision for it." So David made lavish preparations for it before his death.

Solomon Anointed to Build the Temple

6Then he called for his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel.6Then he called for Solomon his son and charged him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel.6Then he called for his son Solomon, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.6Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel.6Then he summoned his son Solomon and instructed him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel. 7David said to Solomon: "My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God.7David said to Solomon, “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house to the name of the LORD my God.7David said to Solomon, "My son, I had intended to build a house to the name of the LORD my God.7And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:7My son," David said to Solomon, "It was in my heart to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God,
8But this word of the LORD came to me: 'You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my Name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.8But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and have waged great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed so much blood before me on the earth.8"But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to My name, because you have shed so much blood on the earth before Me.8But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.8but the word of the LORD came to me: 'You have shed much blood and waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.
9But you will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign.9Behold, a son shall be born to you who shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies. For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.9'Behold, a son will be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.9Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.9But a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies, for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.

10He is the one who will build a house for my Name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.'10He shall build a house for my name. He shall be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish his royal throne in Israel forever.’10'He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.'10He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.10He is the one who will build a house for My name. He will be My son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.'"
11"Now, my son, the LORD be with you, and may you have success and build the house of the LORD your God, as he said you would.11“Now, my son, the LORD be with you, so that you may succeed in building the house of the LORD your God, as he has spoken concerning you.11"Now, my son, the LORD be with you that you may be successful, and build the house of the LORD your God just as He has spoken concerning you.11Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee.11Now, my son, may the LORD be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the LORD your God, as He said about you.
12May the LORD give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.12Only, may the LORD grant you discretion and understanding, that when he gives you charge over Israel you may keep the law of the LORD your God.12"Only the LORD give you discretion and understanding, and give you charge over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.12Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.12Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when He puts you in charge of Israel so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.
13Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the LORD gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.13Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and the rules that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Fear not; do not be dismayed.13"Then you will prosper, if you are careful to observe the statutes and the ordinances which the LORD commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous, do not fear nor be dismayed.13Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.13Then you will succeed if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid or discouraged."
14"I have taken great pains to provide for the temple of the LORD a hundred thousand talents of gold, a million talents of silver, quantities of bronze and iron too great to be weighed, and wood and stone. And you may add to them.14With great pains I have provided for the house of the LORD 100,000 talents of gold, a million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weighing, for there is so much of it; timber and stone, too, I have provided. To these you must add.14"Now behold, with great pains I have prepared for the house of the LORD 100,000 talents of gold and 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weight, for they are in great quantity; also timber and stone I have prepared, and you may add to them.14Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.14Notice I have taken great pains to provide for the house of the LORD--3,775 tons of gold, 37,750 tons of silver, and bronze and iron that can't be weighed because there is so much of it. I have also provided timber and stone, but you will need to add more to them.

15You have many workers: stonecutters, masons and carpenters, as well as those skilled in every kind of work15You have an abundance of workmen: stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and all kinds of craftsmen without number, skilled in working15"Moreover, there are many workmen with you, stonecutters and masons of stone and carpenters, and all men who are skillful in every kind of work.15Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work.15You also have many workers: stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and people skilled in every kind of work
16in gold and silver, bronze and iron--craftsmen beyond number. Now begin the work, and the LORD be with you."16gold, silver, bronze, and iron. Arise and work! The LORD be with you!”16"Of the gold, the silver and the bronze and the iron there is no limit. Arise and work, and may the LORD be with you."16Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.16in gold, silver, bronze, and iron--beyond number. Now begin the work, and may the LORD be with you."
17Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon.17David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,17David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon, saying,17David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,17Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon: "
18He said to them, "Is not the LORD your God with you? And has he not granted you rest on every side? For he has given the inhabitants of the land into my hands, and the land is subject to the LORD and to his people.18“Is not the LORD your God with you? And has he not given you peace on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the LORD and his people.18"Is not the LORD your God with you? And has He not given you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the LORD and before His people.18Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people.18The LORD your God is with you, isn't He? And hasn't He given you rest on every side? For He has handed the land's inhabitants over to me, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and His people.
19Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD."19Now set your mind and heart to seek the LORD your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy vessels of God may be brought into a house built for the name of the LORD.”19"Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise, therefore, and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the LORD."19Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.19Now determine in your mind and heart to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the LORD God's sanctuary so that you may bring the ark of the LORD's covenant and the holy articles of God to the temple that is to be built for the name of Yahweh."
