| 3seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. | 3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. |

| 10Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; | 10Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble, |
| 11for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. | 11and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. |
| 12Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. | 12Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have. |
| 13I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, | 13I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body, |
| 14knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. | 14because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. |
| 15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. | 15And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times. |

| 19So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. | 19We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. | 20But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, | 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation. |
| 21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. | 21For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. |
