| 1Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and singled out for God's good news-- | 1From Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God. |
| 2which He promised long ago through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures-- | 2This gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures, |
| 3concerning His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh | 3concerning his Son who was a descendant of David with reference to the flesh, |
| 4and who has been declared to be the powerful Son of God by the resurrection from the dead according to the Spirit of holiness. | 4who was appointed the Son-of-God-in-power according to the Holy Spirit by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord. |
