Comfort in Persecution
(2 Timothy 1:6-12) 16"I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. | 16“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. | 16"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves. | 16Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. | 16"Look, I'm sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves. |
17Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. | 17Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, | 17"But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues; | 17But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; | 17Because people will hand you over to sanhedrins and flog you in their synagogues, beware of them. |
18On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. | 18and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. | 18and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. | 18And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. | 18You will even be brought before governors and kings because of Me, to bear witness to them and to the nations. |
19But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, | 19When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. | 19"But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say. | 19But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. | 19But when they hand you over, don't worry about how or what you should speak. For you will be given what to say at that hour, |
20for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. | 20For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. | 20"For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. | 20For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. | 20because you are not speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is speaking through you. |

But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. |
23When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. | 23When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. | 23"But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes. | 23But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. | 23When they persecute you in one town, escape to another. For I assure you: You will not have covered the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. |

25It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household! | 25It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. | 25"It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household! | 25It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? | 25It is enough for a disciple to become like his teacher and a slave like his master. If they called the head of the house 'Beelzebul,' how much more the members of his household! |
Fearing God Alone
(Luke 12:4-7) 26"So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. | 26“So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. | 26"Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. | 26Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. | 26"Therefore, don't be afraid of them, since there is nothing covered that won't be uncovered and nothing hidden that won't be made known. |
27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. | 27What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. | 27"What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops. | 27What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. | 27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops. |
28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. | 28And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. | 28"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. | 28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. | 28Don't fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. |
29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. | 29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. | 29"Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. | 29Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. | 29Aren't two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's consent. |
30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. | 30But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. | 30"But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. | 30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. | 30But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. |
31So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. | 31Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. | 31"So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. | 31Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. | 31So don't be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows. |
Confessing Christ
(Luke 12:8-12) 32"Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. | 32So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, | 32"Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. | 32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. | 32"Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. |
33But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. | 33but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. | 33"But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven. | 33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. | 33But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven. |
The Sword of the Gospel
(Luke 12:49-53) 34"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. | 34“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. | 34"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. | 34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. | 34Don't assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. |
35For I have come to turn "'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-- | 35For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. | 35"For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; | 35For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. | 35For I came to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; |
36a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' | 36And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. | 36and A MAN'S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD. | 36And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. | 36and a man's enemies will be the members of his household. |
Take up Your Cross
(Matthew 16:24-28; Mark 8:34-38; Luke 9:23-27) 37"Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. | 37Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. | 37"He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. | 37He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. | 37The person who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; the person who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. |
38Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. | 38And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. | 38"And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. | 38And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. | 38And whoever doesn't take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. |
39Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. | 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. | 39"He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it. | 39He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. | 39Anyone finding his life will lose it, and anyone losing his life because of Me will find it. |
The Reward of Service
(2 Kings 4:8-17) 40"Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. | 40“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. | 40"He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. | 40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. | 40"The one who welcomes you welcomes Me, and the one who welcomes Me welcomes Him who sent Me. |
41Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. | 41The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. | 41"He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. | 41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. | 41Anyone who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward. And anyone who welcomes a righteous person because he's righteous will receive a righteous person's reward. |
42And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward." | 42And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” | 42"And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward." | 42And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. | 42And whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple --I assure you: He will never lose his reward!" |
