The Table of Nations
(1 Chronicles 1:4–27)

1And these are the generations of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And were born to them sons after the flood.

The Japhethites

2The sons of Japheth:

Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

3And the sons of Gomer:

Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

4And the sons of Javan:

Elishah, and Tarshish, the Kittim, and the Rodanim. 5From these were separated the coastlands of the nations, in their lands, each according to his language, according to their clans, in their nations.

The Hamites

6And the sons of Ham:

Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.

7And the sons of Cush:

Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha.

And the sons of Raamah:

Sheba and Dedan.

8And Cush begat Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth. 9He was a mighty hunter before the face of YHWH; upon thus it is said: “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the face of YHWH.” 10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11From that land he went to Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-ir and Calah, 12and Resen between Nineveh and between Calah; it is the great city.

13And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, 14and Pathrusim, and the Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorim.

15And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, 16and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite, 17and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, 18and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite.

And afterward the clans of the Canaanite were scattered. 19And the border of the Canaanite was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; and as you go toward Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

20These are the sons of Ham, according to their clans, according to their languages, in their lands, in their nations.

The Semites

21And sons were also born to Shem—the father of all the sons of Eber—the brother of Japheth the elder.

22The sons of Shem:

Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.

23And the sons of Aram:

Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

24And Arphaxad begat Shelah, and Shelah begat Eber.

25And to Eber two sons were born: The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and the name of his brother was Joktan.

26And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, 27and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah, 28and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba, 29and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab; all these are the sons of Joktan. 30And their dwelling was from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.

31These are the sons of Shem, according to their clans, according to their languages, in their lands, in their nations.

32These are the clans of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, in their nations. And from these the nations were divided on the earth after the flood.
