Psalm 142

I lift My Voice to Yahweh
(1 Samuel 22:1–5; Psalm 57:1–11)

מַשְׂכִּ֥יל (A Maskil) לְדָוִ֑ד (of David), בִּהְיוֹת֖וֹ (in his being) בַמְּעָרָ֣ה (in the cave). תְפִלָּֽה׃ (A prayer).

1ק֭וֹלִי (With my voice) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֶזְעָ֑ק (I cry out);

ק֝וֹלִ֗י (with my voice) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֶתְחַנָּֽן׃ (I plead for grace).

2  אֶשְׁפֹּ֣ךְ (I pour out) לְפָנָ֣יו (before Him) שִׂיחִ֑י (my complaint);

צָ֝רָתִ֗י (my distress) לְפָנָ֥יו (before Him) אַגִּֽיד׃ (I declare).

3  בְּהִתְעַטֵּ֬ף (With the weakening) עָלַ֨י׀ (within me) רוּחִ֗י (of my spirit),

וְאַתָּה֮ (and You) יָדַ֪עְתָּ (do know) נְֽתִיבָ֫תִ֥י (my path).

בְּאֹֽרַח־ (On the road) ז֥וּ (which) אֲהַלֵּ֑ךְ (I walk)

טָמְנ֖וּ (they have hidden) פַ֣ח (a snare) לִֽי׃ (for me).

4  הַבֵּ֤יט (Look) יָמִ֨ין׀ (to the right) וּרְאֵה֮ (and see),

וְאֵֽין־ (and how indeed there is not) לִ֪י (to me) מַ֫כִּ֥יר (attends);

אָבַ֣ד (has perished) מָנ֣וֹס (the place of refuge) מִמֶּ֑נִּי (for me);

אֵ֖ין (no one) דּוֹרֵ֣שׁ (is inquiring) לְנַפְשִֽׁי׃ (for my soul).

5  זָעַ֥קְתִּי (I cried out) אֵלֶ֗יךָ (to You), יְה֫וָ֥ה (O YHWH);

אָ֭מַרְתִּי (I said) אַתָּ֣ה (You are) מַחְסִ֑י (my refuge),

חֶ֝לְקִ֗י (my portion) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) הַֽחַיִּים׃ (of the living).

6  הַקְשִׁ֤יבָה׀ (Attend) אֶֽל־ (to) רִנָּתִי֮ (my cry),

כִּֽי־ (for) דַלּ֪וֹתִ֫י (I am brought low) מְאֹ֥ד (exceedingly).

הַצִּילֵ֥נִי (Deliver me) מֵרֹדְפַ֑י (from my pursuers),

כִּ֖י (for) אָמְצ֣וּ (they are stronger) מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ (than I).

7  ה֘וֹצִ֤יאָה (Bring forth) מִמַּסְגֵּ֨ר׀ (from prison) נַפְשִׁי֮ (my soul),

לְהוֹד֪וֹת (for giving praise) אֶת־ (-) שְׁ֫מֶ֥ךָ (to Your name) בִּ֭י (by me).

יַכְתִּ֣רוּ (Let surround me) צַדִּיקִ֑ים (the righteous ones),

כִּ֖י (for) תִגְמֹ֣ל (You deal bountifully) עָלָֽי׃ (with me).
