The Sons of Aaron
(Leviticus 10:1–7)

1  וְאֵ֛לֶּה (And these are) תּוֹלְדֹ֥ת (the records) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (of Aaron) וּמֹשֶׁ֑ה (and Moses) בְּי֗וֹם (when the) דִּבֶּ֧ר (spoke) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (with) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) בְּהַ֥ר (on Mount) סִינָֽי׃ (Sinai):

2  וְאֵ֛לֶּה (And these are) שְׁמ֥וֹת (the names) בְּֽנֵי־ (of the sons) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (of Aaron); הַבְּכ֣וֹר׀ (the firstborn), נָדָ֑ב (Nadab) וַאֲבִיה֕וּא (and Abihu), אֶלְעָזָ֖ר (Eleazar), וְאִיתָמָֽר׃ (and Ithamar). 3  אֵ֗לֶּה (These are) שְׁמוֹת֙ (the names) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) אַהֲרֹ֔ן (of Aaron), הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים (the priests) הַמְּשֻׁחִ֑ים (anointed), אֲשֶׁר־ (whom) מִלֵּ֥א (he filled) יָדָ֖ם (with strength) לְכַהֵֽן׃ (to minister as priests).

4  וַיָּ֣מָת (And died) נָדָ֣ב (Nadab) וַאֲבִיה֣וּא (and Abihu) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) יְהוָ֡ה (YHWH), בְּֽהַקְרִבָם֩ (when they offered) אֵ֨שׁ (fire) זָרָ֜ה (strange) לִפְנֵ֤י (before the face of) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH), בְּמִדְבַּ֣ר (in the Wilderness) סִינַ֔י (of Sinai). וּבָנִ֖ים (And sons) לֹא־ (no) הָי֣וּ (they had) לָהֶ֑ם (-). וַיְכַהֵ֤ן (And ministered as priests) אֶלְעָזָר֙ (Eleazar) וְאִ֣יתָמָ֔ר (and Ithamar) עַל־ (before) פְּנֵ֖י (the face) אַהֲרֹ֥ן (of Aaron) אֲבִיהֶֽם׃פ (their father).

The Duties of the Levites

5  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 6  הַקְרֵב֙ (Bring near) אֶת־ (-) מַטֵּ֣ה (the tribe) לֵוִ֔י (of Levi) וְֽהַעֲמַדְתָּ֣ (and present) אֹת֔וֹ (them) לִפְנֵ֖י (before the face of) אַהֲרֹ֣ן (Aaron) הַכֹּהֵ֑ן (the priest), וְשֵׁרְת֖וּ (that they may serve) אֹתֽוֹ׃ (him). 7  וְשָׁמְר֣וּ (And they shall attend to) אֶת־ (-) מִשְׁמַרְתּ֗וֹ (his needs), וְאֶת־ (and) מִשְׁמֶ֙רֶת֙ (the needs) כָּל־ (of whole) הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה (the congregation) לִפְנֵ֖י (before the face of) אֹ֣הֶל (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), לַעֲבֹ֖ד (to do) אֶת־ (-) עֲבֹדַ֥ת (the work) הַמִּשְׁכָּֽן׃ (of the tabernacle). 8  וְשָׁמְר֗וּ (And they shall attend to) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) כְּלֵי֙ (the furnishings) אֹ֣הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֔ד (of Meeting), וְאֶת־ (and) מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת (to the needs) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), לַעֲבֹ֖ד (to do) אֶת־ (-) עֲבֹדַ֥ת (the work) הַמִּשְׁכָּֽן׃ (of the tabernacle).

9  וְנָתַתָּה֙ (And you shall give) אֶת־ (-) הַלְוִיִּ֔ם (the Levites) לְאַהֲרֹ֖ן (to Aaron) וּלְבָנָ֑יו (and his sons); נְתוּנִ֨ם (being given) נְתוּנִ֥ם (are given) הֵ֙מָּה֙ (they) ל֔וֹ (to him) מֵאֵ֖ת (from among) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 10  וְאֶת־ (And) אַהֲרֹ֤ן (Aaron) וְאֶת־ (and) בָּנָיו֙ (his sons) תִּפְקֹ֔ד (you shall appoint), וְשָׁמְר֖וּ (and they shall attend) אֶת־ (-) כְּהֻנָּתָ֑ם (to their priesthood), וְהַזָּ֥ר (and the outsider) הַקָּרֵ֖ב (who comes near) יוּמָֽת׃פ (shall be put to death).

11  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 12  וַאֲנִ֞י (And I), הִנֵּ֧ה (behold), לָקַ֣חְתִּי (I have taken) אֶת־ (-) הַלְוִיִּ֗ם (the Levites) מִתּוֹךְ֙ (from the midst) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), תַּ֧חַת (instead) כָּל־ (of every) בְּכ֛וֹר (firstborn) פֶּ֥טֶר (who opens) רֶ֖חֶם (the womb) מִבְּנֵ֣י (among the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel). וְהָ֥יוּ (And shall be) לִ֖י (unto Me) הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ (the Levite). 13  כִּ֣י (Because) לִי֮ (are unto Me) כָּל־ (all) בְּכוֹר֒ (the firstborn). בְּיוֹם֩ (On the day) הַכֹּתִ֨י (that I struck) כָל־ (all) בְּכ֜וֹר (the firstborn) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרַ֗יִם (of Egypt) הִקְדַּ֨שְׁתִּי (I sanctified) לִ֤י (to Myself) כָל־ (all) בְּכוֹר֙ (the firstborn) בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (in Israel), מֵאָדָ֖ם (from man) עַד־ (to) בְּהֵמָ֑ה (beast). לִ֥י (Unto Me) יִהְי֖וּ (they shall be); אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃ס (YHWH).

The Numbering of the Levites

14  וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר (And spoke) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) בְּמִדְבַּ֥ר (in the Wilderness) סִינַ֖י (of Sinai), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 15  פְּקֹד֙ (Number) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) לֵוִ֔י (of Levi) לְבֵ֥ית (by the houses) אֲבֹתָ֖ם (of their fathers), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans); כָּל־ (every) זָכָ֛ר (male) מִבֶּן־ (from a son) חֹ֥דֶשׁ (of a month) וָמַ֖עְלָה (and above) תִּפְקְדֵֽם׃ (you shall number).

16  וַיִּפְקֹ֥ד (And numbered) אֹתָ֛ם (them) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) עַל־ (according to) פִּ֣י (the word) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) צֻוָּֽה׃ (he was commanded).

17  וַיִּֽהְיוּ־ (And were) אֵ֥לֶּה (these) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) לֵוִ֖י (of Levi) בִּשְׁמֹתָ֑ם (by their names): גֵּרְשׁ֕וֹן (Gershon), וּקְהָ֖ת (and Kohath), וּמְרָרִֽי׃ (and Merari). 18  וְאֵ֛לֶּה (And these) שְׁמ֥וֹת (are the names) בְּֽנֵי־ (of the sons) גֵרְשׁ֖וֹן (of Gershon) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans): לִבְנִ֖י (Libni), וְשִׁמְעִֽי׃ (and Shimei). 19  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) קְהָ֖ת (of Kohath) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans): עַמְרָ֣ם (Amram), וְיִצְהָ֔ר (and Izhar), חֶבְר֖וֹן (Hebron), וְעֻזִּיאֵֽל׃ (and Uzziel). 20  וּבְנֵ֧י (And the sons) מְרָרִ֛י (of Merari) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם (by their clans): מַחְלִ֣י (Mahli), וּמוּשִׁ֑י (and Mushi). אֵ֥לֶּה (These) הֵ֛ם (are) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (the clans) הַלֵּוִ֖י (of Levi), לְבֵ֥ית (by the houses) אֲבֹתָֽם׃ (of their fathers).

The Gershonites
(Numbers 4:21–28; 1 Chronicles 23:7–11)

21  לְגֵ֣רְשׁ֔וֹן (From Gershon) מִשְׁפַּ֙חַת֙ (is the family) הַלִּבְנִ֔י (of the Libnite), וּמִשְׁפַּ֖חַת (and the family) הַשִּׁמְעִ֑י (of the Shimite); אֵ֣לֶּה (these) הֵ֔ם (were) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֖ת (the clans) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּֽי׃ (of the Gershonite). 22  פְּקֻדֵיהֶם֙ (Those numbered) בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר (by the number) כָּל־ (of all) זָכָ֔ר (the males), מִבֶּן־ (from a son) חֹ֖דֶשׁ (of a month) וָמָ֑עְלָה (and above), פְּקֻ֣דֵיהֶ֔ם (there were numbered) שִׁבְעַ֥ת (seven) אֲלָפִ֖ים (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred).

23  מִשְׁפְּחֹ֖ת (The clans) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּ֑י (of the Gershonite) אַחֲרֵ֧י (behind) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֛ן (the tabernacle) יַחֲנ֖וּ (were to camp) יָֽמָּה׃ (westward). 24  וּנְשִׂ֥יא (And the leader) בֵֽית־ (of the house) אָ֖ב (of the father) לַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּ֑י (of the Gershonite) אֶלְיָסָ֖ף (was Eliasaph), בֶּן־ (son) לָאֵֽל׃ (of Lael).

25  וּמִשְׁמֶ֤רֶת (And the duties) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) גֵרְשׁוֹן֙ (of Gershon) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֔ד (of Meeting) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן (was the tabernacle), וְהָאֹ֑הֶל (and the tent), מִכְסֵ֕הוּ (with its covering), וּמָסַ֕ךְ (and the screen) פֶּ֖תַח (of the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting), 26  וְקַלְעֵ֣י (and the hangings) הֶֽחָצֵ֗ר (of the court), וְאֶת־ (and) מָסַךְ֙ (the screen) פֶּ֣תַח (of the door) הֶֽחָצֵ֔ר (of the court), אֲשֶׁ֧ר (which are) עַל־ (around) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֛ן (the tabernacle), וְעַל־ (and) הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (the altar) סָבִ֑יב (around), וְאֵת֙ (and) מֵֽיתָרָ֔יו (their cords), לְכֹ֖ל (according to all) עֲבֹדָתֽוֹ׃ (its service).

The Kohathites
(Numbers 4:1–20; 1 Chronicles 23:12–20)

27  וְלִקְהָ֗ת (And from Kohath) מִשְׁפַּ֤חַת (is the family) הַֽעַמְרָמִי֙ (of the Amramite), וּמִשְׁפַּ֣חַת (and the family) הַיִּצְהָרִ֔י (of the Izharite), וּמִשְׁפַּ֙חַת֙ (and the family) הַֽחֶבְרֹנִ֔י (of the Hebronite), וּמִשְׁפַּ֖חַת (and the family) הָֽעָזִּיאֵלִ֑י (of the Uzzielite); אֵ֥לֶּה (these) הֵ֖ם (were) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (the clans) הַקְּהָתִֽי׃ (of the Kohathite). 28  בְּמִסְפַּר֙ (By the number) כָּל־ (of all) זָכָ֔ר (the males), מִבֶּן־ (from a son) חֹ֖דֶשׁ (of a month) וָמָ֑עְלָה (and above), שְׁמֹנַ֤ת (there were eight) אֲלָפִים֙ (thousand) וְשֵׁ֣שׁ (and six) מֵא֔וֹת (hundred), שֹׁמְרֵ֖י (keeping) מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת (charge) הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ (of the sanctuary).

29  מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (The clans) בְּנֵי־ (of the sons) קְהָ֖ת (of Kohath) יַחֲנ֑וּ (were to camp) עַ֛ל (on) יֶ֥רֶךְ (the side) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן (of the tabernacle) תֵּימָֽנָה׃ (south). 30  וּנְשִׂ֥יא (And the leader) בֵֽית־ (of the house) אָ֖ב (of the father) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹ֣ת (of the clans) הַקְּהָתִ֑י (of the Kohathite) אֶלִיצָפָ֖ן (was Elizaphan) בֶּן־ (son) עֻזִּיאֵֽל׃ (of Uzziel).

31  וּמִשְׁמַרְתָּ֗ם (And their duty was) הָאָרֹ֤ן (the ark), וְהַשֻּׁלְחָן֙ (and the table), וְהַמְּנֹרָ֣ה (and the lampstand), וְהַֽמִּזְבְּחֹ֔ת (and the altars), וּכְלֵ֣י (and the vessels) הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ (of the sanctuary) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) יְשָׁרְת֖וּ (they ministered), בָּהֶ֑ם (in) וְהַ֨מָּסָ֔ךְ (and the screen), וְכֹ֖ל (and all) עֲבֹדָתֽוֹ׃ (its service).

32  וּנְשִׂיא֙ (And was chief) נְשִׂיאֵ֣י (of the leaders) הַלֵּוִ֔י (of the Levite) אֶלְעָזָ֖ר (Eleazar) בֶּן־ (son) אַהֲרֹ֣ן (of Aaron) הַכֹּהֵ֑ן (the priest), פְּקֻדַּ֕ת (with oversight) שֹׁמְרֵ֖י (of those who kept) מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת (charge) הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ (of the sanctuary).

The Merarites
(Numbers 4:29–33; 1 Chronicles 23:21–23)

33  לִמְרָרִ֕י (From Merari) מִשְׁפַּ֙חַת֙ (is the family) הַמַּחְלִ֔י (of the Mahlite), וּמִשְׁפַּ֖חַת (and the family) הַמּוּשִׁ֑י (of the Mushite); אֵ֥לֶּה (these) הֵ֖ם (were) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (the clans) מְרָרִֽי׃ (of Merari). 34  וּפְקֻדֵיהֶם֙ (And those numbered) בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר (by the number) כָּל־ (of all) זָכָ֔ר (the males), מִבֶּן־ (from a son) חֹ֖דֶשׁ (of a month) וָמָ֑עְלָה (and above), שֵׁ֥שֶׁת (were six) אֲלָפִ֖ים (thousand) וּמָאתָֽיִם׃ (and two hundred).

35  וּנְשִׂ֤יא (And the leader) בֵֽית־ (of the house) אָב֙ (of the father) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹ֣ת (of the clans) מְרָרִ֔י (of Merari) צוּרִיאֵ֖ל (was Zuriel) בֶּן־ (son) אֲבִיחָ֑יִל (of Abihail). עַ֣ל (On) יֶ֧רֶךְ (the side) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֛ן (of the tabernacle) יַחֲנ֖וּ (They were to camp) צָפֹֽנָה׃ (north).

36  וּפְקֻדַּ֣ת (And the appointed) מִשְׁמֶרֶת֮ (duty) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) מְרָרִי֒ (of Merari) קַרְשֵׁי֙ (was the boards) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֔ן (of the tabernacle), וּבְרִיחָ֖יו (and its bars), וְעַמֻּדָ֣יו (and its pillars), וַאֲדָנָ֑יו (and its bases), וְכָל־ (and) כֵּלָ֔יו (its vessels) וְכֹ֖ל (and all) עֲבֹדָתֽוֹ׃ (its service); 37  וְעַמֻּדֵ֧י (and the pillars) הֶחָצֵ֛ר (of the court) סָבִ֖יב (all around), וְאַדְנֵיהֶ֑ם (and their bases), וִיתֵדֹתָ֖ם (and their pegs), וּמֵֽיתְרֵיהֶֽם׃ (and their cords).

Moses and Aaron

38  וְהַחֹנִ֣ים (And those who were to camp) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֡ן (the tabernacle) קֵ֣דְמָה (on the east), לִפְנֵי֩ (before the face of) אֹֽהֶל־ (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֨ד׀ (of Meeting) מִזְרָ֜חָה (toward the sunrise), מֹשֶׁ֣ה׀ (were Moses) וְאַהֲרֹ֣ן (and Aaron) וּבָנָ֗יו (and his sons), שֹֽׁמְרִים֙ (keeping) מִשְׁמֶ֣רֶת (charge) הַמִּקְדָּ֔שׁ (of the sanctuary) לְמִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת (to meet the needs) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel); וְהַזָּ֥ר (and the outsider) הַקָּרֵ֖ב (who came near) יוּמָֽת׃ (was to be put to death).

39  כָּל־ (All) פְּקוּדֵ֨י (who were numbered) הַלְוִיִּ֜ם (of the Levites), אֲשֶׁר֩ (whom) פָּקַ֨ד (numbered) מֹשֶׁ֧ה (Moses) וְׄאַׄהֲׄרֹ֛ׄןׄ (and Aaron) עַל־ (at) פִּ֥י (the commandment) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans), כָּל־ (all) זָכָר֙ (the males) מִבֶּן־ (from a son) חֹ֣דֶשׁ (of a month) וָמַ֔עְלָה (and above), שְׁנַ֥יִם (two) וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים (and were twenty) אָֽלֶף׃ס (thousand).

The Redemption of the Firstborn

40  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses), פְּקֹ֨ד (Number) כָּל־ (all) בְּכֹ֤ר (firstborn) זָכָר֙ (the males) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), מִבֶּן־ (from a son) חֹ֖דֶשׁ (of a month) וָמָ֑עְלָה (and above), וְשָׂ֕א (and lift up) אֵ֖ת (-) מִסְפַּ֥ר (the number) שְׁמֹתָֽם׃ (of their names). 41  וְלָקַחְתָּ֨ (And you shall take) אֶת־ (-) הַלְוִיִּ֥ם (the Levites) לִי֙ (for Me); אֲנִ֣י (I am) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH). תַּ֥חַת (Instead) כָּל־ (of all) בְּכֹ֖ר (the firstborn) בִּבְנֵ֣י (among the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וְאֵת֙ (and) בֶּהֱמַ֣ת (the livestock) הַלְוִיִּ֔ם (of the Levites), תַּ֣חַת (instead) כָּל־ (of all) בְּכ֔וֹר (the firstborn) בְּבֶהֱמַ֖ת (among the livestock) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

42  וַיִּפְקֹ֣ד (And numbered) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֹת֑וֹ (him) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) בְּכֹ֖ר (the firstborn) בִּבְנֵ֥י (among the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 43  וַיְהִי֩ (And were) כָל־ (all) בְּכ֨וֹר (the firstborn) זָכָ֜ר (males) בְּמִסְפַּ֥ר (by the number) שֵׁמ֛וֹת (of names), מִבֶּן־ (from a son) חֹ֥דֶשׁ (of a month) וָמַ֖עְלָה (and above), לִפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (of their numbered) שְׁנַ֤יִם (two) וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ (and twenty) אֶ֔לֶף (thousand) שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה (three) וְשִׁבְעִ֖ים (and seventy) וּמָאתָֽיִם׃פ (and two hundred).

44  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 45  קַ֣ח (Take) אֶת־ (-) הַלְוִיִּ֗ם (the Levites) תַּ֤חַת (instead) כָּל־ (of all) בְּכוֹר֙ (the firstborn) בִּבְנֵ֣י (among the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), וְאֶת־ (and) בֶּהֱמַ֥ת (the livestock) הַלְוִיִּ֖ם (of the Levites) תַּ֣חַת (instead) בְּהֶמְתָּ֑ם (of their livestock); וְהָיוּ־ (and shall be) לִ֥י (Mine) הַלְוִיִּ֖ם (the Levites); אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH). 46  וְאֵת֙ (And) פְּדוּיֵ֣י (for the redemption) הַשְּׁלֹשָׁ֔ה (of the three) וְהַשִּׁבְעִ֖ים (and seventy), וְהַמָּאתָ֑יִם (and two hundred) הָעֹֽדְפִים֙ (being in excess) עַל־ (over) הַלְוִיִּ֔ם (the Levites), מִבְּכ֖וֹר (of the firstborn) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel), 47  וְלָקַחְתָּ֗ (even you shall take) חֲמֵ֧שֶׁת (five) חֲמֵ֛שֶׁת (five) שְׁקָלִ֖ים (shekels) לַגֻּלְגֹּ֑לֶת (per head). בְּשֶׁ֤קֶל (According to the shekel) הַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ (of the sanctuary) תִּקָּ֔ח (you shall take them), עֶשְׂרִ֥ים (twenty) גֵּרָ֖ה (gerahs) הַשָּֽׁקֶל׃ (the shekel being). 48  וְנָתַתָּ֣ה (And you shall give) הַכֶּ֔סֶף (the silver) לְאַהֲרֹ֖ן (to Aaron) וּלְבָנָ֑יו (and his sons), פְּדוּיֵ֕י (with which is redeemed) הָעֹדְפִ֖ים (being in excess) בָּהֶֽם׃ (of them).

49  וַיִּקַּ֣ח (And took) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) אֵ֖ת (-) כֶּ֣סֶף (silver) הַפִּדְי֑וֹם (the redemption) מֵאֵת֙ (from) הָעֹ֣דְפִ֔ים (those exceeding) עַ֖ל (over) פְּדוּיֵ֥י (those who were redeemed by) הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ (the Levites). 50  מֵאֵ֗ת (From) בְּכ֛וֹר (the firstborn) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) לָקַ֣ח (he took) אֶת־ (-) הַכָּ֑סֶף (the silver), חֲמִשָּׁ֨ה (five) וְשִׁשִּׁ֜ים (and sixty shekels) וּשְׁלֹ֥שׁ (and three) מֵא֛וֹת (hundred) וָאֶ֖לֶף (and a thousand shekels), בְּשֶׁ֥קֶל (according to the shekel) הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ (of the sanctuary), 51  וַיִּתֵּ֨ן (and gave) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) כֶּ֧סֶף (the silver) הַפְּדֻיִ֛ם (their redemption) לְאַהֲרֹ֥ן (to Aaron) וּלְבָנָ֖יו (and his sons), עַל־ (according to) פִּ֣י (the word) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ (Moses).
