The Great Flood
(2 Peter 3:1–7)

1  וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) לְנֹ֔חַ (to Noah), בֹּֽא־ (Go), אַתָּ֥ה (you) וְכָל־ (and all) בֵּיתְךָ֖ (your house), אֶל־ (into) הַתֵּבָ֑ה (the ark), כִּֽי־ (because) אֹתְךָ֥ (you) רָאִ֛יתִי (I have seen) צַדִּ֥יק (righteous) לְפָנַ֖י (before My face) בַּדּ֥וֹר (in the generation) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this). 2  מִכֹּ֣ל׀ (From every) הַבְּהֵמָ֣ה (animal) הַטְּהוֹרָ֗ה (clean) תִּֽקַּח־ (you shall take) לְךָ֛ (with you) שִׁבְעָ֥ה (seven) שִׁבְעָ֖ה (by seven), אִ֣ישׁ (a male) וְאִשְׁתּ֑וֹ (and his female); וּמִן־ (and from) הַבְּהֵמָ֡ה (the animals) אֲ֠שֶׁר (that) לֹ֣א (are not) טְהֹרָ֥ה (clean) הִ֛וא (from these), שְׁנַ֖יִם (two), אִ֥ישׁ (a male) וְאִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃ (and his female). 3  גַּ֣ם (Also) מֵע֧וֹף (from each bird) הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם (of the heavens) שִׁבְעָ֥ה (seven) שִׁבְעָ֖ה (by seven), זָכָ֣ר (male) וּנְקֵבָ֑ה (and female); לְחַיּ֥וֹת (to keep alive) זֶ֖רַע (the seed) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) כָל־ (of all) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth). 4  כִּי֩ (For) לְיָמִ֨ים (after days) ע֜וֹד (more) שִׁבְעָ֗ה (seven), אָֽנֹכִי֙ (I) מַמְטִ֣יר (am sending rain) עַל־ (upon) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth) אַרְבָּעִ֣ים (forty) י֔וֹם (days) וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים (and forty) לָ֑יְלָה (nights); וּמָחִ֗יתִי (and I will wipe out) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (every) הַיְקוּם֙ (the living thing) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עָשִׂ֔יתִי (I have made) מֵעַ֖ל (from) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ (of the ground).

5  וַיַּ֖עַשׂ (And did) נֹ֑חַ (Noah) כְּכֹ֥ל (according to all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֖הוּ (had commanded him) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

6  וְנֹ֕חַ (And Noah) בֶּן־ (was a son) שֵׁ֥שׁ (of six) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) שָׁנָ֑ה (years) וְהַמַּבּ֣וּל (and the flood) הָיָ֔ה (came) מַ֖יִם (of waters) עַל־ (upon) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth). 7  וַיָּ֣בֹא (And entered) נֹ֗חַ (Noah) וּ֠בָנָיו (and his sons), וְאִשְׁתּ֧וֹ (and his wife), וּנְשֵֽׁי־ (and the wives) בָנָ֛יו (of his sons) אִתּ֖וֹ (with him) אֶל־ (into) הַתֵּבָ֑ה (the ark), מִפְּנֵ֖י (from the face) מֵ֥י (of the waters) הַמַּבּֽוּל׃ (of the flood). 8  מִן־ (From) הַבְּהֵמָה֙ (animal) הַטְּהוֹרָ֔ה (the clean), וּמִן־ (and from) הַ֨בְּהֵמָ֔ה (the animal) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) אֵינֶ֖נָּה (is not) טְהֹרָ֑ה (clean), וּמִ֨ן־ (and from) הָע֔וֹף (the bird), וְכֹ֥ל (and everything) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) רֹמֵ֖שׂ (crawls) עַל־ (on) הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ (the ground), 9  שְׁנַ֨יִם (two) שְׁנַ֜יִם (by two) בָּ֧אוּ (they came) אֶל־ (to) נֹ֛חַ (Noah) אֶל־ (to) הַתֵּבָ֖ה (the ark), זָכָ֣ר (male) וּנְקֵבָ֑ה (and female), כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) אֶת־ (-) נֹֽחַ׃ (Noah).

10  וַֽיְהִ֖י (And it came to pass) לְשִׁבְעַ֣ת (after seven) הַיָּמִ֑ים (the days) וּמֵ֣י (that the waters) הַמַּבּ֔וּל (of the flood) הָי֖וּ (came) עַל־ (upon) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth). 11  בִּשְׁנַ֨ת (In that year) שֵׁשׁ־ (the six) מֵא֤וֹת (hundredth) שָׁנָה֙ (year) לְחַיֵּי־ (of the life) נֹ֔חַ (of Noah), בַּחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ (in the month) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (second), בְּשִׁבְעָֽה־ (on the seven) עָשָׂ֥ר (and tenth) י֖וֹם (day) לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ (of the month)— בַּיּ֣וֹם (on the day) הַזֶּ֗ה (this) נִבְקְעוּ֙ (burst forth) כָּֽל־ (all) מַעְיְנֹת֙ (the fountains) תְּה֣וֹם (of the deep) רַבָּ֔ה (great), וַאֲרֻבֹּ֥ת (and the windows) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (of the heavens) נִפְתָּֽחוּ׃ (were opened). 12  וַֽיְהִ֥י (And was) הַגֶּ֖שֶׁם (rain) עַל־ (upon) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth) אַרְבָּעִ֣ים (for forty) י֔וֹם (days) וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים (and forty) לָֽיְלָה׃ (nights).

13  בְּעֶ֨צֶם (On the very) הַיּ֤וֹם (day) הַזֶּה֙ (this) בָּ֣א (entered) נֹ֔חַ (Noah), וְשֵׁם־ (and Shem), וְחָ֥ם (and Ham), וָיֶ֖פֶת (and Japheth), בְּנֵי־ (the sons) נֹ֑חַ (of Noah), וְאֵ֣שֶׁת (and the wife) נֹ֗חַ (of Noah), וּשְׁלֹ֧שֶׁת (and the three) נְשֵֽׁי־ (wives) בָנָ֛יו (of his sons) אִתָּ֖ם (with them) אֶל־ (into) הַתֵּבָֽה׃ (the ark)— 14  הֵ֜מָּה (they), וְכָל־ (and every) הַֽחַיָּ֣ה (the beast) לְמִינָ֗הּ (according to its kind), וְכָל־ (and all) הַבְּהֵמָה֙ (the livestock) לְמִינָ֔הּ (according to its kind), וְכָל־ (and every) הָרֶ֛מֶשׂ (crawling thing) הָרֹמֵ֥שׂ (that crawls) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth) לְמִינֵ֑הוּ (according to its kind), וְכָל־ (and every) הָע֣וֹף (bird) לְמִינֵ֔הוּ (according to its kind), כֹּ֖ל (every) צִפּ֥וֹר (bird) כָּל־ (of every) כָּנָֽף׃ (wing). 15  וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ (And they came) אֶל־ (to) נֹ֖חַ (Noah) אֶל־ (to) הַתֵּבָ֑ה (the ark), שְׁנַ֤יִם (two) שְׁנַ֙יִם֙ (by two) מִכָּל־ (from all) הַבָּשָׂ֔ר (the flesh), אֲשֶׁר־ (-) בּ֖וֹ (in which is) ר֥וּחַ (the breath) חַיִּֽים׃ (of life). 16  וְהַבָּאִ֗ים (And those coming in) זָכָ֨ר (male) וּנְקֵבָ֤ה (and female) מִכָּל־ (from all) בָּשָׂר֙ (flesh); בָּ֔אוּ (they went in) כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) אֹת֖וֹ (him) אֱלֹהִ֑ים (God). וַיִּסְגֹּ֥ר (And shut it) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) בַּֽעֲדֽוֹ׃ (behind him).

17  וַֽיְהִ֧י (And kept coming) הַמַּבּ֛וּל (the flood) אַרְבָּעִ֥ים (forty) י֖וֹם (days) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth); וַיִּרְבּ֣וּ (and multiplied) הַמַּ֗יִם (the waters) וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙ (and they lifted up) אֶת־ (-) הַתֵּבָ֔ה (the ark), וַתָּ֖רָם (and it rose high) מֵעַ֥ל (above) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth). 18  וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ (And prevailed) הַמַּ֛יִם (the waters) וַיִּרְבּ֥וּ (and increased) מְאֹ֖ד (greatly) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth); וַתֵּ֥לֶךְ (and moved about) הַתֵּבָ֖ה (the ark) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הַמָּֽיִם׃ (of the waters). 19  וְהַמַּ֗יִם (And the waters) גָּֽבְר֛וּ (prevailed) מְאֹ֥ד (greatly) מְאֹ֖ד (greatly) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth), וַיְכֻסּ֗וּ (and were covered) כָּל־ (all) הֶֽהָרִים֙ (the mountains) הַגְּבֹהִ֔ים (the high) אֲשֶׁר־ (that were) תַּ֖חַת (under) כָּל־ (all) הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ (the heavens).

20  חֲמֵ֨שׁ (Five) עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה (and ten) אַמָּה֙ (cubits) מִלְמַ֔עְלָה (upward) גָּבְר֖וּ (prevailed) הַמָּ֑יִם (the waters), וַיְכֻסּ֖וּ (and were covered) הֶהָרִֽים׃ (the mountains). 21  וַיִּגְוַ֞ע (And perished) כָּל־ (all) בָּשָׂ֣ר׀ (flesh) הָרֹמֵ֣שׂ (that moved) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֗רֶץ (the earth), בָּע֤וֹף (the bird), וּבַבְּהֵמָה֙ (and the livestock), וּבַ֣חַיָּ֔ה (and the beast), וּבְכָל־ (and every) הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ (swarming thing) הַשֹּׁרֵ֣ץ (that swarms) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth), וְכֹ֖ל (and all) הָאָדָֽם׃ (mankind). 22  כֹּ֡ל (Everything) אֲשֶׁר֩ (that had) נִשְׁמַת־ (the breath) ר֨וּחַ (of the spirit of) חַיִּ֜ים (life) בְּאַפָּ֗יו (in its nostrils)— מִכֹּ֛ל (of all) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that was) בֶּחָֽרָבָ֖ה (on the dry land)— מֵֽתוּ׃ (died). 23  וַיִּ֜מַח (And He wiped out) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (every) הַיְק֣וּם׀ (living thing) אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (that was) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הָֽאֲדָמָ֗ה (of the ground): מֵאָדָ֤ם (From mankind) עַד־ (to) בְּהֵמָה֙ (livestock) עַד־ (to) רֶ֙מֶשׂ֙ (crawling thing) וְעַד־ (and to) ע֣וֹף (the bird) הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם (of the heavens). וַיִּמָּח֖וּ (And they were wiped out) מִן־ (from) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth), וַיִשָּׁ֧אֶר (and remained) אַךְ־ (only) נֹ֛חַ (Noah) וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר (and those who were) אִתּ֖וֹ (with him) בַּתֵּבָֽה׃ (in the ark).

24  וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ (And prevailed) הַמַּ֖יִם (the waters) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth) חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים (fifty) וּמְאַ֖ת (and a hundred) יֽוֹם׃ (days).
