Corruption on the Earth
(Matthew 24:36–51)

1  וַֽיְהִי֙ (And it came to pass that), כִּֽי־ (when) הֵחֵ֣ל (began) הָֽאָדָ֔ם (mankind) לָרֹ֖ב (to multiply) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה (of the ground) וּבָנ֖וֹת (and daughters) יֻלְּד֥וּ (were born) לָהֶֽם׃ (to them), 2  וַיִּרְא֤וּ (that saw) בְנֵי־ (the sons) הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ (of God) אֶת־ (-) בְּנ֣וֹת (the daughters) הָֽאָדָ֔ם (of mankind), כִּ֥י (that) טֹבֹ֖ת (good) הֵ֑נָּה (they were); וַיִּקְח֤וּ (and they took) לָהֶם֙ (for themselves) נָשִׁ֔ים (wives), מִכֹּ֖ל (from all) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) בָּחָֽרוּ׃ (they chose).

3  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH), לֹֽא־ (Not) יָד֨וֹן (shall strive) רוּחִ֤י (My Spirit) בָֽאָדָם֙ (with mankind) לְעֹלָ֔ם (forever), בְּשַׁגַּ֖ם (for indeed) ה֣וּא (he is) בָשָׂ֑ר (flesh); וְהָי֣וּ (and shall be) יָמָ֔יו (his days) מֵאָ֥ה (a hundred) וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים (and twenty) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years).

4  הַנְּפִלִ֞ים (The Nephilim) הָי֣וּ (were) בָאָרֶץ֮ (on the earth) בַּיָּמִ֣ים (in the days) הָהֵם֒ (those), וְגַ֣ם (and also) אַֽחֲרֵי־ (after) כֵ֗ן (that), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (when) יָבֹ֜אוּ (came in) בְּנֵ֤י (the sons) הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ (of God) אֶל־ (to) בְּנ֣וֹת (the daughters) הָֽאָדָ֔ם (of mankind), וְיָלְד֖וּ (and they bore children) לָהֶ֑ם (to them). הֵ֧מָּה (Those were) הַגִּבֹּרִ֛ים (the mighty men) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who were) מֵעוֹלָ֖ם (from of old), אַנְשֵׁ֥י (men) הַשֵּֽׁם׃פ (of the name).

5  וַיַּ֣רְא (And saw) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) כִּ֥י (that) רַבָּ֛ה (was great) רָעַ֥ת (the wickedness) הָאָדָ֖ם (of mankind) בָּאָ֑רֶץ (on the earth), וְכָל־ (and that every) יֵ֙צֶר֙ (inclination) מַחְשְׁבֹ֣ת (of the thoughts) לִבּ֔וֹ (of his heart) רַ֥ק (was only) רַ֖ע (evil) כָּל־ (all) הַיּֽוֹם׃ (the day). 6  וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם (And regretted) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) כִּֽי־ (that) עָשָׂ֥ה (He had made) אֶת־ (-) הָֽאָדָ֖ם (mankind) בָּאָ֑רֶץ (on the earth), וַיִּתְעַצֵּ֖ב (and He was grieved) אֶל־ (in) לִבּֽוֹ׃ (His heart). 7  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH), אֶמְחֶ֨ה (I will wipe out) אֶת־ (-) הָאָדָ֤ם (mankind) אֲשֶׁר־ (whom) בָּרָ֙אתִי֙ (I have created) מֵעַל֙ (from) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה (of the ground)— מֵֽאָדָם֙ (from mankind) עַד־ (to) בְּהֵמָ֔ה (beast), עַד־ (to) רֶ֖מֶשׂ (crawling thing), וְעַד־ (and to) ע֣וֹף (the bird) הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם (of the heavens); כִּ֥י (for) נִחַ֖מְתִּי (I regret) כִּ֥י (that) עֲשִׂיתִֽם׃ (I have made them).

Noah’s Favor with God

8  וְנֹ֕חַ (And Noah) מָ֥צָא (found) חֵ֖ן (favor) בְּעֵינֵ֥י (in the eyes) יְהוָֽה׃פ (of YHWH).

9  אֵ֚לֶּה (These are) תּוֹלְדֹ֣ת (the generations) נֹ֔חַ (of Noah). נֹ֗חַ (Noah), אִ֥ישׁ (a man) צַדִּ֛יק (righteous), תָּמִ֥ים (blameless) הָיָ֖ה (was) בְּדֹֽרֹתָ֑יו (in his generations). אֶת־ (With) הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) הִֽתְהַלֶּךְ־ (walked) נֹֽחַ׃ (Noah). 10  וַיּ֥וֹלֶד (And begat) נֹ֖חַ (Noah) שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה (three) בָנִ֑ים (sons): אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֖ם (Shem), אֶת־ (-) חָ֥ם (Ham), וְאֶת־ (and) יָֽפֶת׃ (Japheth).

11  וַתִּשָּׁחֵ֥ת (And was corrupt) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים (of God), וַתִּמָּלֵ֥א (and was filled) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth) חָמָֽס׃ (with violence). 12  וַיַּ֧רְא (And saw) אֱלֹהִ֛ים (God) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth), וְהִנֵּ֣ה (and behold), נִשְׁחָ֑תָה (it was corrupt); כִּֽי־ (for) הִשְׁחִ֧ית (had corrupted) כָּל־ (all) בָּשָׂ֛ר (flesh) אֶת־ (-) דַּרְכּ֖וֹ (their way) עַל־ (on) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ס (the earth).

Preparing the Ark
(Hebrews 11:7)

13  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) אֱלֹהִ֜ים (God) לְנֹ֗חַ (to Noah), קֵ֤ץ (The end) כָּל־ (of all) בָּשָׂר֙ (flesh) בָּ֣א (has come) לְפָנַ֔י (before My face), כִּֽי־ (for) מָלְאָ֥ה (is filled) הָאָ֛רֶץ (the earth) חָמָ֖ס (with violence) מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם (from their faces). וְהִנְנִ֥י (And behold), מַשְׁחִיתָ֖ם (I am destroying them) אֶת־ (along with) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

14  עֲשֵׂ֤ה (Make) לְךָ֙ (for yourself) תֵּבַ֣ת (an ark) עֲצֵי־ (of wood) גֹ֔פֶר (of gopher); קִנִּ֖ים (rooms) תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה (you shall make) אֶת־ (in) הַתֵּבָ֑ה (the ark), וְכָֽפַרְתָּ֥ (and you shall cover) אֹתָ֛הּ (it) מִבַּ֥יִת (inside) וּמִח֖וּץ (and outside) בַּכֹּֽפֶר׃ (with a covering). 15  וְזֶ֕ה (And this is) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (how) תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֖ה (you shall make) אֹתָ֑הּ (it): שְׁלֹ֧שׁ (Three) מֵא֣וֹת (hundred) אַמָּ֗ה (cubits is) אֹ֚רֶךְ (the length) הַתֵּבָ֔ה (of the ark), חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים (fifty) אַמָּה֙ (cubits) רָחְבָּ֔הּ (its width), וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים (and thirty) אַמָּ֖ה (cubits) קוֹמָתָֽהּ׃ (its height). 16  צֹ֣הַר׀ (A window) תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה (you shall make) לַתֵּבָ֗ה (for the ark), וְאֶל־ (and to) אַמָּה֙ (a cubit) תְּכַלֶ֣נָּה (shall you finish it) מִלְמַ֔עְלָה (from above), וּפֶ֥תַח (and the door) הַתֵּבָ֖ה (of the ark) בְּצִדָּ֣הּ (in its side) תָּשִׂ֑ים (you shall set) תַּחְתִּיִּ֛ם (with lower), שְׁנִיִּ֥ם (second), וּשְׁלִשִׁ֖ים (and third decks) תַּֽעֲשֶֽׂהָ׃ (you shall make it). 17  וַאֲנִ֗י (And I),

הִנְנִי֩ (behold, I), מֵבִ֨יא (am bringing) אֶת־ (-) הַמַּבּ֥וּל (the flood) מַ֙יִם֙ (of waters) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth), לְשַׁחֵ֣ת (to destroy) כָּל־ (all) בָּשָׂ֗ר (flesh) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) בּוֹ֙ (has in it) ר֣וּחַ (the breath) חַיִּ֔ים (of life) מִתַּ֖חַת (from under) הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם (the heavens); כֹּ֥ל (everything) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) בָּאָ֖רֶץ (is on the earth) יִגְוָֽע׃ (shall perish). 18  וַהֲקִמֹתִ֥י (And I will establish) אֶת־ (-) בְּרִיתִ֖י (My covenant) אִתָּ֑ךְ (with you), וּבָאתָ֙ (and you shall go) אֶל־ (into) הַתֵּבָ֔ה (the ark)— אַתָּ֕ה (you) וּבָנֶ֛יךָ (and your sons), וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֥ (and your wife), וּנְשֵֽׁי־ (and the wives) בָנֶ֖יךָ (of your sons) אִתָּֽךְ׃ (with you).

19  וּמִכָּל־ (And from every) הָ֠חַי (living thing) מִֽכָּל־ (from all) בָּשָׂ֞ר (flesh), שְׁנַ֧יִם (two) מִכֹּ֛ל (of every kind) תָּבִ֥יא (you shall bring) אֶל־ (into) הַתֵּבָ֖ה (the ark) לְהַחֲיֹ֣ת (to keep them alive) אִתָּ֑ךְ (with you); זָכָ֥ר (male) וּנְקֵבָ֖ה (and female) יִֽהְיֽוּ׃ (they shall be). 20  מֵהָע֣וֹף (From the bird) לְמִינֵ֗הוּ (according to its kind), וּמִן־ (and from) הַבְּהֵמָה֙ (every animal) לְמִינָ֔הּ (according to its kind), מִכֹּ֛ל (and from every) רֶ֥מֶשׂ (crawling thing) הָֽאֲדָמָ֖ה (of the ground) לְמִינֵ֑הוּ (according to its kind), שְׁנַ֧יִם (two) מִכֹּ֛ל (of every kind) יָבֹ֥אוּ (shall come) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (to you) לְהַֽחֲיֽוֹת׃ (to be kept alive). 21  וְאַתָּ֣ה (And you) קַח־ (shall take) לְךָ֗ (for yourself) מִכָּל־ (from all) מַֽאֲכָל֙ (food) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) יֵֽאָכֵ֔ל (is eaten), וְאָסַפְתָּ֖ (and you shall gather it) אֵלֶ֑יךָ (to yourself) וְהָיָ֥ה (and it shall be) לְךָ֛ (for you) וְלָהֶ֖ם (and for them) לְאָכְלָֽה׃ (for food).

22  וַיַּ֖עַשׂ (And did) נֹ֑חַ (Noah); כְּ֠כֹל (according to all) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) אֹת֛וֹ (him) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God), כֵּ֥ן (so) עָשָֽׂה׃ס (he did).
