The Ark Rests on Ararat

1  וַיִּזְכֹּ֤ר (And remembered) אֱלֹהִים֙ (God) אֶת־ (-) נֹ֔חַ (Noah), וְאֵ֤ת (and) כָּל־ (every) הַֽחַיָּה֙ (living thing), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה (the animals) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that were) אִתּ֖וֹ (with him) בַּתֵּבָ֑ה (in the ark). וַיַּעֲבֵ֨ר (And made pass) אֱלֹהִ֥ים (God) ר֙וּחַ֙ (a wind) עַל־ (over) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth), וַיָּשֹׁ֖כּוּ (and subsided) הַמָּֽיִם׃ (the waters). 2  וַיִּסָּֽכְרוּ֙ (And were closed) מַעְיְנֹ֣ת (the fountains) תְּה֔וֹם (of the deep) וַֽאֲרֻבֹּ֖ת (and the windows) הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם (of the heavens), וַיִּכָּלֵ֥א (and was restrained) הַגֶּ֖שֶׁם (the rain) מִן־ (from) הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ (the heavens). 3  וַיָּשֻׁ֧בוּ (And turned back) הַמַּ֛יִם (the waters) מֵעַ֥ל (from) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth), הָל֣וֹךְ (going) וָשׁ֑וֹב (and returning). וַיַּחְסְר֣וּ (Decreased) הַמַּ֔יִם (the waters) מִקְצֵ֕ה (at the end) חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים (of fifty) וּמְאַ֖ת (and a hundred) יֽוֹם׃ (days).

4  וַתָּ֤נַח (And rested) הַתֵּבָה֙ (the ark) בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ (in the month) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י (the seventh), בְּשִׁבְעָה־ (on the seven) עָשָׂ֥ר (and tenth) י֖וֹם (day) לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ (of the month), עַ֖ל (on) הָרֵ֥י (the mountains) אֲרָרָֽט׃ (of Ararat). 5  וְהַמַּ֗יִם (And the waters) הָיוּ֙ (were) הָל֣וֹךְ (going) וְחָס֔וֹר (and decreasing) עַ֖ד (until) הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ (the month) הָֽעֲשִׂירִ֑י (tenth); בָּֽעֲשִׂירִי֙ (and in the tenth month) בְּאֶחָ֣ד (on the first) לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ (of the month) נִרְא֖וּ (were seen) רָאשֵׁ֥י (the tops) הֶֽהָרִֽים׃ (of the mountains).

Noah Sends a Raven and a Dove

6  וַֽיְהִ֕י (And it came to pass) מִקֵּ֖ץ (at the end) אַרְבָּעִ֣ים (of forty) י֑וֹם (days) וַיִּפְתַּ֣ח (that opened) נֹ֔חַ (Noah) אֶת־ (-) חַלּ֥וֹן (the window) הַתֵּבָ֖ה (of the ark) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) עָשָֽׂה׃ (he had made), 7  וַיְשַׁלַּ֖ח (and he sent forth) אֶת־ (-) הָֽעֹרֵ֑ב (the raven) וַיֵּצֵ֤א (and it went out), יָצוֹא֙ (going out) וָשׁ֔וֹב (and returning), עַד־ (until) יְבֹ֥שֶׁת (had dried up) הַמַּ֖יִם (the waters) מֵעַ֥ל (from) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

8  וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח (And he sent forth) אֶת־ (-) הַיּוֹנָ֖ה (the dove) מֵאִתּ֑וֹ (from himself) לִרְאוֹת֙ (to see) הֲקַ֣לּוּ (if had receded) הַמַּ֔יִם (the waters) מֵעַ֖ל (from) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ (of the ground); 9  וְלֹֽא־ (not) מָצְאָה֩ (did find) הַיּוֹנָ֨ה (the dove) מָנ֜וֹחַ (a resting place) לְכַף־ (for the sole) רַגְלָ֗הּ (of her foot), וַתָּ֤שָׁב (and she returned) אֵלָיו֙ (to him) אֶל־ (in) הַתֵּבָ֔ה (the ark), כִּי־ (for) מַ֖יִם (the waters were still) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) כָל־ (of all) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth). וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח (And he stretched out) יָדוֹ֙ (his hand) וַיִּקָּחֶ֔הָ (and took her) וַיָּבֵ֥א (and brought) אֹתָ֛הּ (her) אֵלָ֖יו (to himself) אֶל־ (in) הַתֵּבָֽה׃ (the ark).

10  וַיָּ֣חֶל (And he waited) ע֔וֹד (yet) שִׁבְעַ֥ת (seven) יָמִ֖ים (days) אֲחֵרִ֑ים (another); וַיֹּ֛סֶף (and he again) שַׁלַּ֥ח (sent forth) אֶת־ (-) הַיּוֹנָ֖ה (the dove) מִן־ (from) הַתֵּבָֽה׃ (the ark), 11  וַתָּבֹ֨א (and came back) אֵלָ֤יו (to him) הַיּוֹנָה֙ (the dove) לְעֵ֣ת (in) עֶ֔רֶב (the evening). וְהִנֵּ֥ה (And behold), עֲלֵה־ (a leaf) זַ֖יִת (of an olive tree) טָרָ֣ף (freshly plucked) בְּפִ֑יהָ (was in her mouth); וַיֵּ֣דַע (and knew) נֹ֔חַ (Noah) כִּי־ (that) קַ֥לּוּ (had receded) הַמַּ֖יִם (the waters) מֵעַ֥ל (from) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

12  וַיִּיָּ֣חֶל (And he waited) ע֔וֹד (yet) שִׁבְעַ֥ת (seven) יָמִ֖ים (days) אֲחֵרִ֑ים (another) וַיְשַׁלַּח֙ (and he sent forth) אֶת־ (-) הַיּוֹנָ֔ה (the dove), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יָסְפָ֥ה (and she did not continue) שׁוּב־ (to return) אֵלָ֖יו (to him) עֽוֹד׃ (again).

Exiting the Ark

13  וַֽ֠יְהִי (And it came to pass) בְּאַחַ֨ת (in the one) וְשֵׁשׁ־ (and six) מֵא֜וֹת (hundredth) שָׁנָ֗ה (year), בָּֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ (in the first month) בְּאֶחָ֣ד (on the first) לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ (of the month), חָֽרְב֥וּ (that were dried up) הַמַּ֖יִם (the waters) מֵעַ֣ל (from) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth). וַיָּ֤סַר (And removed) נֹ֙חַ֙ (Noah) אֶת־ (-) מִכְסֵ֣ה (the covering) הַתֵּבָ֔ה (of the ark), וַיַּ֕רְא (and he looked), וְהִנֵּ֥ה (and behold), חָֽרְב֖וּ (was dry) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ (of the ground). 14  וּבַחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ (And in the month) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (second), בְּשִׁבְעָ֧ה (on the seven) וְעֶשְׂרִ֛ים (and twentieth) י֖וֹם (day) לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ (of the month), יָבְשָׁ֖ה (was dried) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ס (the earth).

15  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) אֶל־ (to) נֹ֥חַ (Noah), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 16  צֵ֖א (Go forth) מִן־ (from) הַתֵּבָ֑ה (the ark), אַתָּ֕ה (you), וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֛ (and your wife), וּבָנֶ֥יךָ (and your sons), וּנְשֵֽׁי־ (and the wives) בָנֶ֖יךָ (of your sons) אִתָּֽךְ׃ (with you). 17  כָּל־ (Every) הַחַיָּ֨ה (living thing) אֲשֶֽׁר־ (that is) אִתְּךָ֜ (with you)— מִכָּל־ (all) בָּשָׂ֗ר (flesh), בָּע֧וֹף (the bird), וּבַבְּהֵמָ֛ה (and the livestock), וּבְכָל־ (and every) הָרֶ֛מֶשׂ (crawling thing) הָרֹמֵ֥שׂ (that crawls) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth)— הוֹצֵא (bring out) אִתָּ֑ךְ (with you) וְשָֽׁרְצ֣וּ (and a let them swarm) בָאָ֔רֶץ (on the earth), וּפָר֥וּ (and be fruitful), וְרָב֖וּ (and multiply) עַל־ (on) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

18  וַיֵּ֖צֵא־ (And went forth) נֹ֑חַ (Noah), וּבָנָ֛יו (and his sons), וְאִשְׁתּ֥וֹ (and his wife), וּנְשֵֽׁי־ (and the wives) בָנָ֖יו (of his sons) אִתּֽוֹ׃ (with him). 19  כָּל־ (Every) הַֽחַיָּ֗ה (animal), כָּל־ (every) הָרֶ֙מֶשׂ֙ (crawling thing), וְכָל־ (and every) הָע֔וֹף (bird), כֹּ֖ל (and everything) רוֹמֵ֣שׂ (that moves) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם (according to their families), יָצְא֖וּ (they went forth) מִן־ (from) הַתֵּבָֽה׃ (the ark).

Noah Builds an Altar

20  וַיִּ֥בֶן (And built) נֹ֛חַ (Noah) מִזְבֵּ֖חַ (an altar) לַֽיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH). וַיִּקַּ֞ח (And he took) מִכֹּ֣ל׀ (from every) הַבְּהֵמָ֣ה (animal) הַטְּהוֹרָ֗ה (clean), וּמִכֹּל֙ (and from every) הָע֣וֹף (bird) הַטָּהֹ֔ר (clean), וַיַּ֥עַל (and he offered) עֹלֹ֖ת (burnt offerings) בַּמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (on the altar). 21  וַיָּ֣רַח (And smelled) יְהוָה֮ (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) רֵ֣יחַ (the aroma) הַנִּיחֹחַ֒ (pleasing), וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (and said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (in) לִבּ֗וֹ (His heart), לֹֽא־ (Not) אֹ֠סִף (will I continue) לְקַלֵּ֨ל (to curse) ע֤וֹד (anymore) אֶת־ (-) הָֽאֲדָמָה֙ (the ground) בַּעֲב֣וּר (on account) הָֽאָדָ֔ם (of mankind), כִּ֠י (though) יֵ֣צֶר (the inclination) לֵ֧ב (of the heart) הָאָדָ֛ם (of man) רַ֖ע (is evil) מִנְּעֻרָ֑יו (from his youth); וְלֹֽא־ (not) אֹסִ֥ף (will I continue) ע֛וֹד (anymore) לְהַכּ֥וֹת (to destroy) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (every) חַ֖י (living thing), כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) עָשִֽׂיתִי׃ (I have done).

22  עֹ֖ד (Throughout) כָּל־ (all) יְמֵ֣י (the days) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the earth),

זֶ֡רַע (seedtime) וְ֠קָצִיר (and harvest),

וְקֹ֨ר (and cold) וָחֹ֜ם (and heat),

וְקַ֧יִץ (and summer) וָחֹ֛רֶף (and winter),

וְי֥וֹם (and day) וָלַ֖יְלָה (and night),

לֹ֥א (not) יִשְׁבֹּֽתוּ׃ (shall cease).
