The Poor Widow’s Offering
(Mark 12:41–44)
1And, looking up, He saw the rich casting their gifts into the treasury.
2And He saw a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
3And He said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow cast in more than they all;
4for all these, out of their superabundance, cast into the gifts; but she, out of her poverty, cast in all the living that she had."
Temple Destruction and Other Signs
(Matthew 24:1–8; Mark 13:1–8)
5And, as some were speaking about the temple, "With what beautiful stones and offerings it has been adorned," He said,
6"As to these things which ye are looking upon, the days will come, in which there will not be left here a stone upon a stone, which will not be thrown down."
7And they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, when, therefore, will these things be, and what is the sign, when all these things are about to come to pass?"
8And He said, "Take heed that ye be not led astray; for many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The season has drawn near!' Go not after them.
9And, when ye hear of wars and tumults, be not terrified; for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not straight-way."
Witnessing to All Nations
(Matthew 24:9–14; Mark 13:9–13)
10Then He said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
11and there will be great earthquakes, and, in various places, famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.
12And, before all these things, they will lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up into the synagogues and prisons, being brought before kings and governors for My name's sake.
13It shall result to you for a testimony.
14Settle it, therefore, in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to make a defense;
15for I will give you a mouth, and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or gainsay.
16But ye will be delivered up even by parents, and brothers, and kindred, and friends; and they will put some of you to death.
17And ye will be hated by all for My name's sake.
18And a hair of your head shall in no wise perish.
19In your patience possess ye your souls.
The Destruction of Jerusalem
(Matthew 24:15–25; Mark 13:14–23)
20"But when ye see Jerusalem encompassed by armies, then know that her desolation has drawn near.
21Then let those in Judaea flee into the mountains; and let those in the midst of it depart; and let not those in the country enter therein;
22because these are days of vengeance, that all the things written may be fulfilled.
23Woe to the women with child, and to those giving suck, in those days; for there will be great distress on the land, and wrath to this people.
24And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led away captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by gentiles, until the times of the gentiles are fulfilled.
The Return of the Son of Man
(Matthew 24:26–31; Mark 13:24–27)
25And there will be signs in sun, and moon, and stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity for the roaring of the sea and billows;
26men fainting for fear and for expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
27And then will they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory.
28And, when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; because your redemption is drawing near."
The Lesson of the Fig Tree
(Matthew 24:32–35; Mark 13:28–31)
29And He spake a parable to them: "Behold the fig tree and all the trees;
30when they now shoot forth, beholding it, ye know of yourselves that already the summer is near.
31So also ye, when ye see these things coming to pass, know that the Kingdom of God is near.
32Verily I say to you, this generation will in no wise pass away, till all come to pass.
33The heaven and the earth will pass away; but My words shall in no wise pass away.
Be Watchful for the Day
34"But take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with gluttony and drunkenness, and anxieties pertaining to life, and that day come upon you suddenly as a snare;
35for so it will come upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth.
36But watch ye at every season, praying that ye may have full strength to escape all these things that are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."
37And He was, during the days, in the temple, teaching; and, during the nights, going forth, He was wont to lodge in the mount which is called Olives.
38And all the people were coming to Him early in the morning, in the temple, to hear Him.
