Luke 10:1-35 ▼

1 Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy-two others and sent them in two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.

2 And He was saying to them, “The harvest indeed is much, but the workers few. Therefore implore the Lord of the harvest that He might put forth workers into His harvest.

3 Go! Behold, I send you? forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.

4 Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road.

5 And into whatever house you? might enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’

6 And if a son of peace is there, your? peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you?.

7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking the things unto them; for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move from house to house.

8 And into whatever city you? may enter and they may receive you?, eat the things set before you?.

9 And heal the ailing in it, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has drawn near to you?.’

10 But into whatever city you? might enter and they may not receive you?, having gone out into its streets, say,

11 ‘Even the dust of your? city having clung to our feet we wipe off against you?; yet know this, that the kingdom of God has drawn near.’

12 I say to you? that for Sodom in that day it will be more bearable than for that city.

13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles having happened in you? had happened in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you?.

15 And you, Capernaum, to heaven will you be lifted up? To Hades you will be brought down!

16 The one hearing you? hears Me, and the one setting you? aside sets Me aside, and the one setting Me aside sets aside the One having sent Me.”

17 And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

18 And He said to them, “I was beholding Satan having fallen like lightning out of heaven.

19 Behold, I have given you? the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and on all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you?.

20 But do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you?; but rejoice that your? names have been written in the heavens.”

21 In the same hour, He exulted in the Holy Spirit and said, “I acknowledge You, Father, Lord of heaven and of the earth, because You hid away these things from the wise and intelligent, and You revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, because of thus it was good pleasure before You.

22 All things were delivered to Me by My Father. And no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and the one to whom the Son may resolve to reveal Him.”

23 And having turned to the disciples, He said in private, “Blessed are the eyes seeing what you? see.

24 For I say to you? that many prophets and kings desired to see what you? see and did not see, and to hear what you? hear and did not hear.”

25 And behold, a certain lawyer rose up, testing Him, saying, “Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”

26 And He said to him, “What has been written in the Law? How do you read it?”

27 And answering, he said, “‘You will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”

28 And He said to him, “You answered correctly. Do this and you will live.”

29 But wanting to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 And Jesus, having taken it up, said, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among robbers who, having both stripped him and having inflicted wounds, went away, having left him half dead.

31 Now by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and having seen him, he passed by on the opposite side.

32 And likewise also a Levite, having come to the place and having seen, passed by on the opposite side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, journeying, came to him, and having seen, he was moved with compassion;

34 and having come, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him.

35 And on the next day, having taken out two denarii, he gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you might expend, I, in my returning, will repay you.’
