1 The second lot came out for the clans of the tribe of Simeon (heard): Their inheritance lay within the territory of Judah (praised) 2 and included Beersheba (well of seven) (or Sheba (seven)), Moladah (birth / race), 3 Hazar-shual (jackal village), Balah (waxed old), Ezem (bone), 4 Eltolad (God's generations), Bethul (dweller in God), Hormah (destruction), 5 Ziklag (winding), Beth-marcaboth (house of the chariots), Hazar-susah (horse village), 6 Beth-lebaoth (house of lionesses), and Sharuhen (refuge of grace)—thirteen cities, along with their villages. 7 Ain (spring), Rimmon (pomegranate), Ether (abundant), and Ashan (smoke)—four cities, along with their villages, 8 and all the villages surrounding these cities as far as Baalath-beer (mistress of the well) (Ramah (hill) of the Negev (southland)). This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Simeon (heard). 9 The inheritance of the Simeonites (heard) was taken from the territory of Judah (praised), because the share for Judah’s descendants was too large for them. So the Simeonites received an inheritance within Judah’s portion. 10 The third lot came up for the clans of the tribe of Zebulun (exalted): The border of their inheritance stretched as far as Sarid (survivor). 11 It went up westward to Maralah (trembling), reached Dabbesheth (a hill-place), and met the brook east of Jokneam (the people lament). 12 From Sarid (survivor) it turned eastward along the border of Chisloth-tabor (flanks of Tabor) and went on to Daberath (word) and up to Japhia (shining). 13 From there it crossed eastward to Gath-hepher (the winepress of digging) and to Eth-kazin (time of the judge); it extended to Rimmon (pomegranate) and curved around toward Neah (shaking). 14 Then the border circled around the north side of Neah to Hannathon (gracious) and ended at the Valley of Iphtah-el (God opens). 15 It also included Kattath (small), Nahalal (pasture), Shimron (watch-height), Idalah (memorial of God), and Bethlehem (house of bread). There were twelve cities, along with their villages. 16 This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Zebulun (exalted), including these cities and their villages. 17 The fourth lot came out for the clans (there is recompense) of the tribe of Issachar: 18 Their territory included Jezreel (God sows), Chesulloth (flanks), Shunem (double resting place), 19 Hapharaim (two pits), Shion (ruin), Anaharath (the groaning of fear), 20 Rabbith (multitude), Kishion (hard), Ebez (I will make white), 21 Remeth (height), En-gannim (fountain of the garden), En-haddah (swift fountain), and Beth-pazzez (house of dispersion). 22 The border reached Tabor (mound), Shahazumah (toward the heights), and Beth-shemesh (house of the sun), and ended at the Jordan (flowing down). There were sixteen cities, along with their villages. 23 This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Issachar (there is recompense), including these cities and their villages. 24 The fifth lot came out for the clans of the tribe of Asher (happy): 25 Their territory included Helkath (smooth), Hali (necklace), Beten (womb), Achshaph (I shall be bewitched), 26 Allammelech (oak of the king), Amad (enduring), and Mishal (entreaty). On the west the border touched Carmel (garden-land) and Shihor-libnath (blackness of whiteness), 27 then turned eastward toward Beth-dagon (house of Dagon), touched Zebulun (exalted) and the Valley of Iphtah-el (God opens), and went north to Beth-emek (house of the valley) and Neiel (moved by God), passing Cabul (binding) on the left. 28 It went on to Ebron [Abdon], Rehob (broad place), Hammon (warm springs), and Kanah (reed), as far as Greater Sidon (hunting). 29 The border then turned back toward Ramah (hill) as far as the fortified city of Tyre (a rock), turned toward Hosah (refuge), and came out at the Sea (the Mediterranean Sea) in the region of Achzib (deception), 30 Ummah (union), Aphek (enclosure), and Rehob (broad place). There were twenty-two cities, along with their villages. 31 This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Asher (happy), including these cities and their villages. 32 The sixth lot came out for the clans of the tribe of Naphtali (wrestling): 33 Their border started at Heleph (exchange) and the great tree (oak) of Zaanannim (removings), passing Adami-nekeb (man of Adar) and Jabneel (God causes to build) as far as Lakkum (fortification) and ending at the Jordan (flowing down). 34 Then the border turned westward to Aznoth-tabor (peaks of Tabor) and ran from there to Hukkok (appointed), touching Zebulun (exalted) on the south side, Asher (happy) on the west, and Judah (praised) at the Jordan [west, and the Jordan] on the east. 35 The fortified cities were Ziddim (the declivities), Zer (flint), Hammath (hot spring), Rakkath (shore), Chinnereth (harps), 36 Adamah (the earth), Ramah (hill), Hazor (castle), 37 Kedesh (holy place), Edrei (good pasture), En-hazor (fount of Hazor), 38 Iron (fearing), Migdal-el (tower of God), Horem (sacred), Beth-anath (house of affliction), and Beth-shemesh (house of the sun). There were nineteen cities, along with their villages. 39 This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Naphtali (wrestling), including these cities and their villages.
