1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees having come, tempting, questioned Him, to show to them a sign from Heaven, And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 and He answering said to them, “Evening having come, you say, Fair weather, for the sky is red, He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’
3 and at morning, Foul weather today, for the sky is red—gloomy; hypocrites, you indeed know to discern the face of the sky, but the signs of the times you are not able! And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and a sign will not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet”; and having left them He went away. 7 and they were reasoning in themselves, saying, “Because we took no loaves.” And they began discussing it among themselves, saying, “We brought no bread.” They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”
8 And Jesus having known, said to them, “Why reason you in yourselves, you of little faith, because you took no loaves? But Jesus, aware of this, said, “O you of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread? Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread?
9 Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets you took up? Do you not yet perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered? Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?
10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?
11 How do you not understand that I did not speak to you of bread—to take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?” How is it that you fail to understand that I did not speak about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
12 Then they understood that He did not say to take heed of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 And Jesus, having come to the parts of Caesarea Philippi, was asking His disciples, saying, “Who do men say I am—the Son of Man?” Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 And they said, “Some, John the Immerser, and others, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He says to them, “And you—who do you say I am?” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 And Simon Peter answering said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus answering said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona, because flesh and blood did not reveal [it] to you, but My Father who is in the heavens. And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My Assembly, and [the] gates of Hades will not prevail against it; And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
19 and I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever you may bind on the earth will be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever you may loose on the earth will be having been loosed in the heavens.” I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
20 Then He charged His disciples that they may say to no one that He is Jesus the Christ. Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ. Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that it is necessary for Him to go away to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be put to death, and the third day to rise. From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22 And having taken Him aside, Peter began to rebuke Him, saying, “Be kind to Yourself, Lord; this will not be to You”; And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 and He having turned, said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling-block to Me, for you do not mind the things of God, but the things of men.” But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wills to come after Me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me, Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
25 for whoever may will to save his life will lose it, and whoever may lose his life for My sake will find it; For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
26 for what is a man profited if he may gain the whole world, but of his life suffer loss? Or what will a man give as an exchange for his life? For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
27 For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of His Father, with His messengers, and then He will reward each according to his work. For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
28 Truly I say to you, there are certain of those standing here who will not taste of death until they may see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
