1 Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness. 5 Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, “Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. 9 Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, “Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts—
10 no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the laborer deserves his food. no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.
11 Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave. 12 As you enter a house, wish it peace. As you enter the house, greet it. As you enter the home, give it your greeting.
13 If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you.
14 Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words—go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet. And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.
15 Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. 16 “Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves. “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
17 But beware of people, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues, Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues.
18 and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans. and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.
19 When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say,
20 For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21 Brother will hand over brother to death, and the father his child; children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.
22 You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved. and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. Amen, I say to you, you will not finish the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, for the slave that he become like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household! It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
26 “Therefore do not be afraid of them. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.
27 What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. 33 But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father. but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 For I have come to set a man ‘against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. For I have come to turn “’a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—

42 And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.” And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
