1 And Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan. 4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”
5 And the devil led him onto a high mountain, and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.
6 and he said to him: “To you, I will give all this power, and its glory. For they have been handed over to me, and I give them to whomever I wish. and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.

8 And in response, Jesus said to him: “It is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him alone.’ ” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and he set him on the parapet of the temple, and he said to him: “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here. And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here.
10 For it is written that he has given his Angels charge over you, so that they may guard you, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’ For it is written: “’He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;
11 and so that they may take you into their hands, lest perhaps you may hurt your foot against a stone.” and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
12 And in response, Jesus said to him, “It is said: ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ” And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
13 And when all the temptation was completed, the devil withdrew from him, until a time. And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time. When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
14 And Jesus returned, in the power of the Spirit, into Galilee. And his fame spread throughout the entire region. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country. Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, and he was magnified by everyone. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16 And he went to Nazareth, where he had been raised. And he entered into the synagogue, according to his custom, on the Sabbath day. And he rose up to read. 20 And when he had rolled up the book, he returned it to the minister, and he sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. 23 And he said to them: “Certainly, you will recite to me this saying, ‘Physician, heal yourself.’ The many great things that we have heard were done in Capernaum, do here also in your own country.” And he said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘“Physician, heal yourself.” What we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.’” Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”
24 Then he said: “Amen I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country. And he said, “Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.
25 In truth, I say to you, there were many widows in the days of Elijah in Israel, when the heavens were closed for three years and six months, when a great famine had occurred throughout the entire land. But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were shut up three years and six months, and a great famine came over all the land, I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.
26 And to none of these was Elijah sent, except to Zarephath of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.
27 And there were many lepers in Israel under the prophet Elisha. And none of these was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.” And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.” And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”
28 And all those in the synagogue, upon hearing these things, were filled with anger. When they heard these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.
29 And they rose up and drove him beyond the city. And they brought him all the way to the edge of the mount, upon which their city had been built, so that they might thrown him down violently. And they rose up and drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff.
30 But passing through their midst, he went away. But passing through their midst, he went away. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

He cried out at the top of his voice,
34 saying: “Let us alone. What are we to you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God.” “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and depart from him.” And when the demon had thrown him into their midst, he departed from him, and he no longer harmed him. But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
36 And fear fell over them all. And they discussed this among themselves, saying: “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they depart.” And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!”
37 And his fame spread to every place in the region. And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region. And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.
38 Then Jesus, rising up from the synagogue, entered into the house of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in the grip of a severe fever. And they petitioned him on her behalf. And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.
39 And standing over her, he commanded the fever, and it left her. And promptly rising up, she ministered to them. And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them. So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.
40 Then, when the sun had set, all those who had anyone afflicted with various diseases brought them to him. Then, laying his hands on each one of them, he cured them. Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.
41 Now demons departed from many of them, crying out and saying, “You are the son of God.” And rebuking them, he would not permit them to speak. For they knew him to be the Christ. And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.
42 Then, when it was daytime, going out, he went to a deserted place. And the crowds sought him, and they went all the way to him. And they detained him, so that he would not depart from them. And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.
43 And he said to them, “I must also preach the kingdom of God to other cities, because it was for this reason that I was sent.” but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”
44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee. And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea. And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
