1	Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead. 2	They, therefore, made Him a supper there; and Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with Him.	So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table.	Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.
3	Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of pure spikenard, very costly, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.	Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.	Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4	But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was about to betray Him, says,	But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said,	But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected,
5	"Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denaries, and given to the poor?"	“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”	“Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.”
6	And he said this, not because he cared about the poor; but because he was a thief; and, having the money-box, he was wont to carry what was put therein .	He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.	He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
7	Jesus, therefore, said, "Suffer her to keep it for the day of My burial;	Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial.	“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.
8	for the poor ye always have with you, but Me ye have not always."	For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”	You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”
9	The great multitude, therefore, of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not because of Jesus only, but that they might see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead.	When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.	Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
10	But the high priests consulted, that they might slay Lazarus also;	So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,	So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,
11	because, on his account, many of the Jews were going away, and were believing on Jesus.	because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.	for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.
12	On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, having heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,	The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.	The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
13	took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet Him, and cried, "Hosanna! blessed is He Who is coming in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!"	So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”	They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!”
14	And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat upon it; as it has been written,	And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,	Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:
15	"Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming upon an ass colt."	“Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!”	“Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.”
16	These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about Him, and that they did these things to Him.	His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.	At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.
17	The multitude, therefore, that was with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, was bearing testimony.	The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness.	Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.
18	On this account also, the multitude met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign.	The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.	Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him.
19	The Pharisees, therefore, said among themselves, "Ye see that ye are effecting nothing! Behold, the world went away after Him!"	So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”	So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”
20	And there were some Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.	Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks.	Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival.
21	These, therefore, came to Philip—who was from Bethsaida of Galilee—and were asking Him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."	So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”	They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.”
22	Philip comes and tells Andrew; Andrew and Philip come and tell Jesus.	Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.	Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.
23	And Jesus answereth them, saying, "The hour has come, that the Son of Man should be glorified.	And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.	Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24	Verily, verily, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat, having fallen into the ground, dies, it abides alone; but, if it dies, it bears much fruit,	Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.	Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
25	He who loves his soul loses it; and he who hates his soul in this world will keep it unto life eternal.	Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.	Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
26	If any one serve Me, let him follow Me; and where I am there will also My servant be. If anyone serve Me, him will My Father honor.	If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.	Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
27	Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour. But for this cause came I to this hour.	“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour.	“Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.
28	Father, glorify Thy Name!" There came, therefore, a voice out of Heaven, "I both glorified it, and will glorify it again."	Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”	Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
29	The multitude, therefore, who stood by and heard it , said that it had thundered; others said, "An angel has spoken to Him."	The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”	The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
30	Jesus answered and said, "This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes.	Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine.	Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine.
31	Now is the judgment of this world: now will the Prince of this world be cast out;	Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.	Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.
32	and I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself."	And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”	And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
33	But this He said, signifying by what manner of death He was about to die.	He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.	He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.
34	The multitude, therefore, answered Him, "We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth forever; and how sayest Thou that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is This Son of Man?"	So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”	The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”
35	Jesus, therefore, said to them, "Yet a little while is the Light among you. Walk while ye have the Light, lest darkness overtake you; and he that walks in the darkness knows not where he is going.	So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.	Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.
36	While ye have the Light, believe on the Light, that ye may become sons of Light" These things spake Jesus, and, going away, He was hidden from them.	While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.	Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
37	But, though He had done so many signs before them, they were not believing on Him;	Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him,	Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.
38	that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which He spake, "Lord, who believed our report, and to whom was the arm of the Lord revealed?"	so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”	This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
39	On this account they could not believe, because Isaiah said again,	Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said,	For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40	"He hath blinded their eyes, and He hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I should heal them."	“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”	“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn—and I would heal them.”
41	These things Isaiah said, because he saw His glory; and he spake of Him.	Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him.	Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.
42	Yet, however, even from among the rulers, many believed on Him; but, because of the Pharisees, they did not confess Him , lest they should be put out of the synagogue;	Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue;	Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;
43	for they loved the glory of men, rather than the glory of God.	for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.	for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
44	And Jesus cried, and said, "He who believes on Me, believes not on Me, but on Him Who sent Me;	And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.	Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.
45	and he that beholds Me, beholds Him Who sent Me.	And whoever sees me sees him who sent me.	The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.
46	I have come a light into the world, that every one who believes on Me may not abide in the darkness.	I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.	I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
47	And, if any one hears My words, and keeps them not, I do not judge him; for I came, not to judge the world, but to save the world.	If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.	“If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48	He who rejects Me, and receives not My words, has one that judges him: the word that I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day.	The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.	There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.
49	For I spake not from Myself; but the Father, Who sent Me, Himself hath given Me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.	For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak.	For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.
50	And I know that His commandment is life eternal. What things, therefore, I speak, even as My Father hath told Me, so I speak."	And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”	I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”
