13 who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. 16 Indeed, we have all received grace upon grace from his fullness, For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.

18 No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side —he has revealed him. 20 He didn’t deny it but confessed, “I am not the Messiah.” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
21 “What then? ” they asked him. “Are you Elijah? ” “I am not,” he said. “Are you the Prophet? ” “No,” he answered. And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
22 “Who are you, then? ” they asked. “We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself? ” So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said, “I am a voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord —just as Isaiah the prophet said.” He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”
24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) Now the Pharisees who had been sent
25 So they asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you aren’t the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet? ” They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 “I baptize with water,” John answered them. “Someone stands among you, but you don’t know him. John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know.
27 He is the one coming after me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.” even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 32 And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested on him. And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.
33 I didn’t know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The one you see the Spirit descending and resting on—he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
34 I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.” I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”
35 The next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God! ” and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

39 “Come and you’ll see,” he replied. So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon. He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John and followed him. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.
41 He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated “the Christ”), He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law (and so did the prophets ): Jesus the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.” Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 “Can anything good come out of Nazareth? ” Nathanael asked him. “Come and see,” Philip answered. Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.
47 Then Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
48 “How do you know me? ” Nathanael asked. “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,” Jesus answered. Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
49 “Rabbi,” Nathanael replied, “You are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel! ” Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
50 Jesus responded to him, “Do you believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.” Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.”
51 Then he said, “Truly I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”
