1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD. “No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the LORD. No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the LORD.
2 A bastard shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none of his enter into the assembly of the LORD. “No one born of a forbidden union may enter the assembly of the LORD. Even to the tenth generation, none of his descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD. No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation.
3 An Ammonite or a Moabite shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none belonging to them enter into the assembly of the LORD for ever: “No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the LORD. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the LORD forever, No Ammonite or Moabite or any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation.
4 because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee. because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you. 5 Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee. But the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam; instead the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loved you. 6 Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever. You shall not seek their peace or their prosperity all your days forever. Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them as long as you live.
7 Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land. “You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you were a sojourner in his land. Do not despise an Edomite, for the Edomites are related to you. Do not despise an Egyptian, because you resided as foreigners in their country.
8 The children of the third generation that are born unto them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD. Children born to them in the third generation may enter the assembly of the LORD. The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the LORD.
9 When thou goest forth in camp against thine enemies, then thou shalt keep thee from every evil thing. “When you are encamped against your enemies, then you shall keep yourself from every evil thing. When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure.
10 If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of that which chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: “If any man among you becomes unclean because of a nocturnal emission, then he shall go outside the camp. He shall not come inside the camp, If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there.
11 but it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall bathe himself in water: and when the sun is down, he shall come within the camp. but when evening comes, he shall bathe himself in water, and as the sun sets, he may come inside the camp. But as evening approaches he is to wash himself, and at sunset he may return to the camp.
12 Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad: “You shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out to it. Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself.
13 and thou shalt have a paddle among thy weapons; and it shall be, when thou sittest down abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee: And you shall have a trowel with your tools, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig a hole with it and turn back and cover up your excrement. As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement.
14 for the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee. Because the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you. For the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.
15 Thou shalt not deliver unto his master a servant which is escaped from his master unto thee: “You shall not give up to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you. If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master.
16 he shall dwell with thee, in the midst of thee, in the place which he shall choose within one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him. He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place that he shall choose within one of your towns, wherever it suits him. You shall not wrong him. Let them live among you wherever they like and in whatever town they choose. Do not oppress them.
17 There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a sodomite of the sons of Israel. “None of the daughters of Israel shall be a cult prostitute, and none of the sons of Israel shall be a cult prostitute. No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute.
18 Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the wages of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are an abomination unto the LORD thy God. You shall not bring the fee of a prostitute or the wages of a dog into the house of the LORD your God in payment for any vow, for both of these are an abomination to the LORD your God. You must not bring the earnings of a female prostitute or of a male prostitute into the house of the LORD your God to pay any vow, because the LORD your God detests them both.
19 Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury: “You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest. Do not charge a fellow Israelite interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest.
20 unto a foreigner thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou puttest thine hand unto, in the land whither thou goest in to possess it. You may charge a foreigner interest, but you may not charge your brother interest, that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a fellow Israelite, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess.
21 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not be slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee. “If you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the LORD your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin. If you make a vow to the LORD your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the LORD your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin.
22 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee. But if you refrain from vowing, you will not be guilty of sin. But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty.
23 That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt observe and do; according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, a freewill offering, which thou hast promised with thy mouth. You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God what you have promised with your mouth. Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the LORD your God with your own mouth.
24 When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. “If you go into your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes, as many as you wish, but you shall not put any in your bag. If you enter your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat all the grapes you want, but do not put any in your basket.
25 When thou comest into thy neighbour's standing corn, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn. If you go into your neighbor’s standing grain, you may pluck the ears with your hand, but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor’s standing grain. If you enter your neighbor’s grainfield, you may pick kernels with your hands, but you must not put a sickle to their standing grain.
