1 And it came to pass, when the king was dwelling in his house and YHWH had given rest to him all around from all his enemies, Now when the king lived in his house and the LORD had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, After the king was settled in his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him,
2 that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, and the ark of God dwells in the midst of the curtain.” the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.” he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”
3 And Nathan said to the king, “All that is in your heart, go, do, for YHWH is with you.” And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.” Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the LORD is with you.”
4 And it came to pass in that night that the word of YHWH came to Nathan, saying, But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, But that night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying:
5 “Go and say unto My servant, to David, thus says YHWH: Would you build for Me a house to dwell in? “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD: Would you build me a house to dwell in? “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?
6 For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt and to this day, and I have been moving about in a tent and in a tabernacle. I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling.
7 In all that I have moved about with all the sons of Israel, have I spoken a word to one of the rods of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have not you⁺ built for Me a house of cedar?’ In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”’ Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?|’
8 And now thus shall you say to My servant David, thus says YHWH of Hosts: I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.
9 And I have been with you in every place that you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.
10 And I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and I will plant him, that he may dwell in in his place and not be disturbed anymore, and the sons of wickedness will not add to afflict him as at first. And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning
11 And since the time that I commanded judges over My people Israel, and have brought rest for you from all your enemies. And YHWH declares to you that YHWH will make for you a house. from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. “’The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you:
12 When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you who will come from your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He will build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom even to forever. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
14 I will be his Father, and he will be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will churry him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of man, I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands.
15 And My loving devotion shall not depart from him as I took it from Saul, whom I turned aside from before you. but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
16 And your house and your kingdom will endure even to forever before My face. Your throne will be established even to forever.” And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’” Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”
17 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so spoke Nathan to David. In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David. Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
18 And King David went in and sat before the face of YHWH, and he said, “Who am I, O Lord YHWH, and who is my house, that You have brought me as far as here? Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
19 And yet this was a small thing in Your eyes, O Lord YHWH, and You have spoken also of the house of Your servant afar off. And is this the manner of the man, O Lord YHWH? And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O Lord GOD. You have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and this is instruction for mankind, O Lord GOD! And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign LORD, is for a mere human!
20 And what more can David say to You? For You know Your servant, O Lord YHWH. And what more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Lord GOD! “What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign LORD.
21 For the sake of Your word and according to Your own heart, You have done all this greatness, to make it known to Your servant. Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it. For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant.
22 Upon thus You are great, O Lord YHWH, for there is none like You and no God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. Therefore you are great, O LORD God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. “How great you are, Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
23 And who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people and to make for Himself a name, and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land before Your people, whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations and their gods? And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name and doing for them great and awesome things by driving out before your people, whom you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods? And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?
24 For You have established for Yourself Your people Israel—Your very own people even to forever. And You, O YHWH, have become their God. And you established for yourself your people Israel to be your people forever. And you, O LORD, became their God. You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, LORD, have become their God.
25 And now, O YHWH God, the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it even to forever, and do as You have said. And now, O LORD God, confirm forever the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, and do as you have spoken. “And now, LORD God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised,
26 And let Your name be magnified even to forever, saying, ‘YHWH of Hosts is the God over Israel.’ And let the house of Your servant David be established before You. And your name will be magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of hosts is God over Israel,’ and the house of your servant David will be established before you. so that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The LORD Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of your servant David will be established in your sight.
27 For You, O YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel, have uncovered this to the ear of Your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you.’ Upon thus Your servant has found it in his heart to pray to You this prayer. For you, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have made this revelation to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. “LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you.’ So your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you.
28 And now, O Lord YHWH, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised to Your servant this goodness. And now, O Lord GOD, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.
29 And now begin and bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You. For You, O Lord YHWH, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.” Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord GOD, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.” Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”
