New Living Translation | New International Version |
O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. | 1In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. |
Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free. | 2In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. |
Be my rock of safety where I can always hide. Give the order to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. | 3Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. |
My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors. | 4Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel. |
O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O LORD, from childhood. | 5For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. |
Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you! | 6From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you. |
My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. | 7I have become a sign to many; you are my strong refuge. |
That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. | 8My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. |
And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing. | 9Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone. |
For my enemies are whispering against me. They are plotting together to kill me. | 10For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together. |
They say, “God has abandoned him. Let’s go and get him, for no one will help him now.” | 11They say, "God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him." |
O God, don’t stay away. My God, please hurry to help me. | 12Do not be far from me, my God; come quickly, God, to help me. |
Bring disgrace and destruction on my accusers. Humiliate and shame those who want to harm me. | 13May my accusers perish in shame; may those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace. |
But I will keep on hoping for your help; I will praise you more and more. | 14As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. |
I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. | 15My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long-- though I know not how to relate them all. |
I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign LORD. I will tell everyone that you alone are just. | 16I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. |
O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. | 17Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. |
Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. | 18Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come. |
Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God? | 19Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, you who have done great things. Who is like you, God? |
You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. | 20Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. |
You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. | 21You will increase my honor and comfort me once more. |
Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel. | 22I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel. |
I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me. | 23My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you-- I whom you have delivered. |
I will tell about your righteous deeds all day long, for everyone who tried to hurt me has been shamed and humiliated. | 24My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion. |
