So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city.1After getting into a boat he crossed to the other side and came to his own town.
Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”2Just then some people brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Have courage, son! Your sins are forgiven."
And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”3Then some of the experts in the law said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming!"
But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?4When Jesus saw their reaction he said, "Why do you respond with evil in your hearts?
For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’?5Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven' or to say, 'Stand up and walk'?
But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” —then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”6But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--then he said to the paralytic--"Stand up, take your stretcher, and go home."
And he arose and departed to his house.7And he stood up and went home.
Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men.8When the crowd saw this, they were afraid and honored God who had given such authority to men.
As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.9As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth. "Follow me," he said to him. And he got up and followed him.
Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples.10As Jesus was having a meal in Matthew's house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with Jesus and his disciples.
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”11When the Pharisees saw this they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.12When Jesus heard this he said, "Those who are healthy don't need a physician, but those who are sick do.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”13Go and learn what this saying means: 'I want mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”14Then John's disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don't fast?"
And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.15Jesus said to them, "The wedding guests cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.
No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse.16No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, because the patch will pull away from the garment and the tear will be worse.
Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”17And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the skins burst and the wine is spilled out and the skins are destroyed. Instead they put new wine into new wineskins and both are preserved."
While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.”18As he was saying these things, a ruler came, bowed low before him, and said, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and she will live."
So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.19Jesus and his disciples got up and followed him.
And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.20But a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”21For she kept saying to herself, "If only I touch his cloak, I will be healed."
But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.22But when Jesus turned and saw her he said, "Have courage, daughter! Your faith has made you well." And the woman was healed from that hour.
When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing,23When Jesus entered the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the disorderly crowd,
He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him.24he said, "Go away, for the girl is not dead but asleep." And they began making fun of him.
But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.25But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and gently took her by the hand, and the girl got up.
And the report of this went out into all that land.26And the news of this spread throughout that region.
When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”27As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"
And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”28When he went into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord."
Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”29Then he touched their eyes saying, "Let it be done for you according to your faith."
And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.”30And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly warned them, "See that no one knows about this."
But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.31But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that entire region.
As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed.32As they were going away, a man who could not talk and was demon-possessed was brought to him.
And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!”33After the demon was cast out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, "Never has anything like this been seen in Israel!"
But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.”34But the Pharisees said, "By the ruler of demons he casts out demons."
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.35Then Jesus went throughout all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and sickness.
But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were bewildered and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”38Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest."
