Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.1Abraham had taken another wife, named Keturah.
And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.2She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.3Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. The descendants of Dedan were the Asshurites, Letushites, and Leummites.
And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.4The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.
And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.5Everything he owned Abraham left to his son Isaac.
But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.6But while he was still alive, Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them off to the east, away from his son Isaac.
This is the sum of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred and seventy-five years.7Abraham lived a total of 175 years.
Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.8Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man who had lived a full life. He joined his ancestors.
And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite,9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar, the Hethite.
the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife.10This was the field Abraham had purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried with his wife Sarah.
And it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer Lahai Roi.11After Abraham's death, God blessed his son Isaac. Isaac lived near Beer Lahai Roi.
Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.12This is the account of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's servant, bore to Abraham.
And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,13These are the names of Ishmael's sons, by their names according to their records: Nebaioth (Ishmael's firstborn), Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
Mishma, Dumah, Massa,14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and their settlements, twelve princes according to their nations.16These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names by their settlements and their camps--twelve princes according to their clans.
These were the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.17Ishmael lived a total of 137 years. He breathed his last and died; then he joined his ancestors.
(They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria.) He died in the presence of all his brethren.18His descendants settled from Havilah to Shur, which runs next to Egypt all the way to Asshur. They settled away from all their relatives.
This is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac.19This is the account of Isaac, the son of Abraham. Abraham became the father of Isaac.
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.20When Isaac was forty years old, he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean.
Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife because she was childless. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.
But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.22But the children struggled inside her, and she said, "If it is going to be like this, I'm not so sure I want to be pregnant!" So she asked the LORD,
And the LORD said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”23and the LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples will be separated from within you. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger."
So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.24When the time came for Rebekah to give birth, there were twins in her womb.
And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau.25The first came out reddish all over, like a hairy garment, so they named him Esau.
Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.26When his brother came out with his hand clutching Esau's heel, they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.
So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.27When the boys grew up, Esau became a skilled hunter, a man of the open fields, but Jacob was an even-tempered man, living in tents.
And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.28Isaac loved Esau because he had a taste for fresh game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.29Now Jacob cooked some stew, and when Esau came in from the open fields, he was famished.
And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.30So Esau said to Jacob, "Feed me some of the red stuff--yes, this red stuff--because I'm starving!" (That is why he was also called Edom.)
But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”31But Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright."
And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”32"Look," said Esau, "I'm about to die! What use is the birthright to me?"
Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.33But Jacob said, "Swear an oath to me now." So Esau swore an oath to him and sold his birthright to Jacob.
And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew; Esau ate and drank, then got up and went out. So Esau despised his birthright.
