Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples;1When they came near Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples on ahead
and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it.2and told them, "Go into the village ahead of you. As soon as you go into it, you will find a colt tied up that no one has ever ridden. Untie it, and bring it along.
And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”3If anyone asks you, 'Why are you doing this?,' say, 'The Lord needs it,' and he will send it back here at once."
So they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it.4So they went and found the colt outside in the street tied up next to a doorway. While they were untying it,
But some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?”5some men standing there asked them, "What are you doing untying that colt?"
And they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go.6The disciples told them what Jesus had said, and the men let them go.
Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it.7They brought the colt to Jesus, threw their coats on it, and he sat on it.
And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road.8Many people spread their coats on the road, while others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields.
Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’9Those who went ahead and those who followed him were shouting, "Hosanna! How blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the kingdom of our father David That comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”10How blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
And Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. So when He had looked around at all things, as the hour was already late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve.11Then Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the Temple and looked around at everything. Since it was already late, he went out with the Twelve to Bethany.
Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry.12The next day, as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus became hungry.
And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.13Seeing in the distance a fig tree covered with leaves, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing except leaves because it wasn't the season for figs.
In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it.14So he told it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again!" Now his disciples were listening to this.
So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.15When they came to Jerusalem, he went into the Temple and began to throw out those who were selling and those who were buying in the Temple. He overturned the moneychangers' tables and the chairs of those who sold doves.
And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple.16He wouldn't even let anyone carry a vessel through the Temple.
Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”17Then he began to teach them: "It is written, is it not, 'My house is to be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you've turned it into a hideout for bandits!"
And the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching.18When the high priests and elders heard this, they began to look for a way to kill him, because they were afraid of him, since the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
When evening had come, He went out of the city.19When evening came, Jesus and his disciples would leave the city.
Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.20While they were walking along early the next morning, they saw the fig tree dried up to its roots.
And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”21Remembering what Jesus had said, Peter pointed out to him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has dried up!"
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.22Jesus told his disciples, "Have faith in God!
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.23I tell all of you with certainty, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' if he doesn't doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.24That is why I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.
“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.25"Whenever you stand up to pray, forgive whatever you have against anyone, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins.
But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”26But if you do not forgive, your Father in heaven will not forgive your sins."
Then they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him.27Then they went into Jerusalem again. While Jesus was walking in the Temple, the high priests, the scribes, and the elders came to him
And they said to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?”28and asked him, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority to do them?"
But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one question; then answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:29Jesus told them, "I'll ask you one question. Answer me, and then I'll tell you by what authority I'm doing these things.
The baptism of John—was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me.”30Was John's authority to baptize from heaven or from humans? Answer me."
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’31They began discussing this among themselves. "If we say, 'From heaven,' he'll say, 'Then why didn't you believe him?'
But if we say, ‘From men’ ”—they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed.32But if we say, 'From humans'…?" They were afraid of the crowd, because everyone really thought John was a prophet.
So they answered and said to Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus answered and said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”33So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then Jesus told them, "Then I won't tell you by what authority I'm doing these things."
