| 1Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. | 1Then God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. |
| 2The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. | 2Every living creature of the earth and every bird of the sky will be terrified of you. Everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea are under your authority. |
| 3Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. | 3You may eat any moving thing that lives. As I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. |
| 4"But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. | 4But you must not eat meat with its life (that is, its blood) in it. |

| 12And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: | 12And God said, "This is the guarantee of the covenant I am making with you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all subsequent generations: |
| 13I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. | 13I will place my rainbow in the clouds, and it will become a guarantee of the covenant between me and the earth. |

| 17So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth." | 17So God said to Noah, "This is the guarantee of the covenant that I am confirming between me and all living things that are on the earth." |
| 18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) | 18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Now Ham was the father of Canaan.) |
