| 1After Jesus called the twelve together, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, | 1One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. |

| 44"Take these words to heart, for the Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men." | 44 “Listen to me and remember what I say. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies.” |
| 45But they did not understand this statement; its meaning had been concealed from them, so that they could not grasp it.
