Psalm 44
NET Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew International Version
For the music director; by the Korahites, a well-written song. O God, we have clearly heard; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in ancient times. 1For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago.
You, by your power, defeated nations and settled our fathers on their land; you crushed the people living there and enabled our ancestors to occupy it. 2With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.
For they did not conquer the land by their swords, and they did not prevail by their strength, but rather by your power, strength and good favor, for you were partial to them. 3It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.
You are my king, O God! Decree Jacob's deliverance! 4You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob.
By your power we will drive back our enemies; by your strength we will trample down our foes! 5Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes.
For I do not trust in my bow, and I do not prevail by my sword. 6I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory;
For you deliver us from our enemies; you humiliate those who hate us. 7but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.
In God I boast all day long, and we will continually give thanks to your name. (Selah) 8In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.
But you rejected and embarrassed us! You did not go into battle with our armies. 9But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies.
You made us retreat from the enemy. Those who hate us take whatever they want from us. 10You made us retreat before the enemy, and our adversaries have plundered us.
You handed us over like sheep to be eaten; you scattered us among the nations. 11You gave us up to be devoured like sheep and have scattered us among the nations.
You sold your people for a pittance; you did not ask a high price for them. 12You sold your people for a pittance, gaining nothing from their sale.
You made us an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us. 13You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.
You made us an object of ridicule among the nations; foreigners treat us with contempt. 14You have made us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.
All day long I feel humiliated and am overwhelmed with shame, 15I live in disgrace all day long, and my face is covered with shame
before the vindictive enemy who ridicules and insults me. 16at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.
All this has happened to us, even though we have not rejected you or violated your covenant with us. 17All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you; we had not been false to your covenant.
We have not been unfaithful, nor have we disobeyed your commands. 18Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path.
Yet you have battered us, leaving us a heap of ruins overrun by wild dogs; you have covered us with darkness. 19But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals; you covered us over with deep darkness.
If we had rejected our God, and spread out our hands in prayer to another god, 20If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
would not God discover it, for he knows one's thoughts? 21would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart?
Yet because of you we are killed all day long; we are treated like sheep at the slaughtering block. 22Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
Rouse yourself! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Wake up! Do not reject us forever! 23Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.
Why do you look the other way, and ignore the way we are oppressed and mistreated? 24Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression?
For we lie in the dirt, with our bellies pressed to the ground. 25We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground.
Rise up and help us! Rescue us because of your loyal love! 26Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love.
