| 1Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. | 1Accept anyone who is weak in faith, but don't argue about doubtful issues. |
| 2One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. | 2One person believes he may eat anything, but one who is weak eats only vegetables. |
| 3The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. | 3One who eats must not look down on one who does not eat, and one who does not eat must not criticize one who does, because God has accepted him. |
| 4Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. | 4Who are you to criticize another's household slave? Before his own Lord he stands or falls. And he will stand. For the Lord is able to make him stand. |
| 5One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. | 5One person considers one day to be above another day. Someone else considers every day to be the same. Each one must be fully convinced in his own mind. |

| 12So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. | 12So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. |
| 13Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this-- not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. | 13Therefore, let us no longer criticize one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in your brother's way. |
| 14I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. | 14(I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. Still, to someone who considers a thing to be unclean, to that one it is unclean.) |
| 15For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died. | 15For if your brother is hurt by what you eat, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy that one Christ died for by what you eat. |
| 16Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil; | 16Therefore, do not let your good be slandered, |
| 17for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. | 17for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. |
| 18For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. | 18Whoever serves Christ in this way is acceptable to God and approved by men. |

| 20Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean, but they are evil for the man who eats and gives offense. | 20Do not tear down God's work because of food. Everything is clean, but it is wrong for a man to cause stumbling by what he eats. |
| 21It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles. | 21It is a noble thing not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything that makes your brother stumble. |
| 22The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. | 22Do you have a conviction? Keep it to yourself before God. The man who does not condemn himself by what he approves is blessed. |
| 23But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin. | 23But whoever doubts stands condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from a conviction, and everything that is not from a conviction is sin. |
