1Now these are the records of the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah; and sons were born to them after the flood.1These are the family records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They also had sons after the flood.
2The sons of Japheth were Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras.2Japheth's sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz and Riphath and Togarmah.3Gomer's sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4The sons of Javan were Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim.4And Javan's sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.5The coastland peoples spread out into their lands. These are Japheth's sons by their clans, in their nations. Each group had its own language.
6The sons of Ham were Cush and Mizraim and Put and Canaan.6Ham's sons: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.
7The sons of Cush were Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.7Cush's sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And Raamah's sons: Sheba and Dedan.
8Now Cush became the father of Nimrod; he became a mighty one on the earth.8Cush fathered Nimrod, who was the first powerful man on earth.
9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD."9He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD."
10The beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.10His kingdom started with Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
11From that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-Ir and Calah,11From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah,
12and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city.12and Resen, between Nineveh and the great city Calah.
13Mizraim became the father of Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim and Naphtuhim13Mizraim fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,
14and Pathrusim and Casluhim (from which came the Philistines) and Caphtorim.14Pathrusim, Casluhim (the Philistines came from them), and Caphtorim.
15Canaan became the father of Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth15Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, then Heth,
16and the Jebusite and the Amorite and the Girgashite16the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17and the Hivite and the Arkite and the Sinite17the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18and the Arvadite and the Zemarite and the Hamathite; and afterward the families of the Canaanite were spread abroad.18the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the Canaanite clans scattered.
19The territory of the Canaanite extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.19The Canaanite border went from Sidon going toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and going toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim as far as Lasha.
20These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, by their nations.20These are Ham's sons, by their clans, according to their languages, in their own lands and their nations.
21Also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, and the older brother of Japheth, children were born.21And Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had sons. Shem was the father of all the sons of Eber.
22The sons of Shem were Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram.22Shem's sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.
23The sons of Aram were Uz and Hul and Gether and Mash.23Aram's sons: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24Arpachshad became the father of Shelah; and Shelah became the father of Eber.24Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.
25Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.25Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.
26Joktan became the father of Almodad and Sheleph and Hazarmaveth and Jerah26And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27and Hadoram and Uzal and Diklah27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28and Obal and Abimael and Sheba28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29and Ophir and Havilah and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's sons.
30Now their settlement extended from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the hill country of the east.30Their settlements extended from Mesha to Sephar, the eastern hill country.
31These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, according to their nations.31These are Shem's sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations.
32These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, by their nations; and out of these the nations were separated on the earth after the flood.32These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood.
