Psalm 17
ISV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew International Version
LORD, hear my just plea! Pay attention to my cry! Listen to my prayer, since it does not come from lying lips.1A prayer of David. Hear me, LORD, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer-- it does not rise from deceitful lips.
Justice for me will come from your presence; your eyes see what is right.2Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.
When you probe my heart, and examine me at night; when you refine me, you will find nothing wrong, for I have determined that I will not transgress with my mouth.3Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.
As for the ways of mankind, I have, according to the words of your lips, avoided the ways of the violent.4Though people tried to bribe me, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent through what your lips have commanded.
Because my steps have held fast to your paths, my footsteps have not faltered.5My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.
I call upon you, for you will answer me, God. Listen closely to me and hear my prayer.6I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show forth your gracious love, save those who take refuge in you from those who rebel against your sovereign power. 7Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Protect me as the most precious part of the eye; hide me under the shadow of your wings8Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the wicked who have afflicted me, from my enemies who have surrounded me.9from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.
They are imprisoned by their own prosperity, they have boasted proudly with their mouth.10They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
Now they have encircled our paths and are determined to cast us down to the ground.11They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
Like a lion they desire to rip us to pieces, like a young lion waiting in ambush.12They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a fierce lion crouching in cover.
Arise, LORD, confront them, bring them to their knees! Deliver me from the wicked by your sword—13Rise up, LORD, confront them, bring them down; with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
from men, LORD, by your hand— from men who belong to this world, whose reward is only in this life. But as for your treasured ones, may their stomachs be full, may their children have an abundance, and may they leave wealth to their offspring.14By your hand save me from such people, LORD, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones.
But as for me, justified, I will behold your face; when I awake, your presence will satisfy me.15As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
