(Joel 2:28-32; John 14:15-26; John 16:5-16; Acts 10:44-48; Acts 19:1-7)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.1When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.1When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.1When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.2And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.2And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.2Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.3And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them.3And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.3And tongues, like flames of fire that were divided, appeared to them and rested on each one of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.4Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them ability for speech.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.5Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.5Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.5There were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.
When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.6And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.6And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.6When this sound occurred, a crowd came together and was confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
Utterly amazed, they asked: "Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans?7And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?7They were amazed and astonished, saying, "Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?7And they were astounded and amazed, saying, "Look, aren't all these who are speaking Galileans?
Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?8And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?8"And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?8How is it that each of us can hear in our own native language?

Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?"12And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”12And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?12They were all astounded and perplexed, saying to one another, "What could this be?"
Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine."13But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”13But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine."13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.13But some sneered and said, "They're full of new wine!"

Peter Preaches to the Crowd

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.14But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.14But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:14But Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them: "Men of Judah and all you residents of Jerusalem, let me explain this to you and pay attention to my words.
These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning!15For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.15"For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day;15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.15For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it's only nine in the morning.
No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:16But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:16but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;16On the contrary, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
"'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.17“‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;17'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:17And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.18even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.18EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:18I will even pour out My Spirit on My male and female slaves in those days, and they will prophesy.
I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.19And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;19'AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:19I will display wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below: blood and fire and a cloud of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.20the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.20'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:20The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and remarkable Day of the Lord comes.
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'21And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’21'AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.21Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
"Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.22“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know—22"Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know--22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:22Men of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
This man was handed over to you by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.23this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.23this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:23Though He was delivered up according to God's determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail Him to a cross and kill Him.
But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.24God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.24"But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.24Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.24God raised Him up, ending the pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
David said about him: "'I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.25For David says concerning him, “‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;25"For David says of Him, 'I SAW THE LORD ALWAYS IN MY PRESENCE; FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.25For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:25For David says of Him: I saw the Lord ever before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope,26therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.26'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE EXULTED; MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE;26Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:26Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover, my flesh will rest in hope,
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, you will not let your holy one see decay.27For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption.27BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.27Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.27because You will not leave me in Hades or allow Your Holy One to see decay.

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.'28You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’28'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'28Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.28You have revealed the paths of life to me; You will fill me with gladness in Your presence."
"Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.29“Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.29"Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.29Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.29Brothers, I can confidently speak to you about the patriarch David: He is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.30Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne,30"And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;30Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn an oath to him to seat one of his descendants on his throne.
Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.31he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.31he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY.31He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.31Seeing this in advance, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Messiah: He was not left in Hades, and His flesh did not experience decay."
God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.32This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.32"This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.32This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.32God has resurrected this Jesus. We are all witnesses of this.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.33Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.33"Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.33Therefore, since He has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, He has poured out what you both see and hear.
For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand34For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,34"For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,34For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,34For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says: The Lord declared to my Lord, Sit at My right hand
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."'35until I make your enemies your footstool.”’35UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'35Until I make thy foes thy footstool.35until I make Your enemies Your footstool.'"
"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah."36Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”36"Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ-- this Jesus whom you crucified."36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.36Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!"

Three Thousand Believe

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"37Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”37Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?37When they heard this, they came under deep conviction and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: "Brothers, what must we do?""
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.38And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.38Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.38Repent," Peter said to them, "and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."39For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”39"For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.39For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."40And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.”40And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!"40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.40And with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, "Be saved from this corrupt generation!"
Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.41So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.41So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.41So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them.

The Fellowship of Believers

(Acts 4:32-37)

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.42And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.42They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.42And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.
Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.43And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.43Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.43Then fear came over everyone, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles.
All the believers were together and had everything in common.44And all who believed were together and had all things in common.44And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common;44And all that believed were together, and had all things common;44Now all the believers were together and held all things in common.
They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.45And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.45and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.45They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone had a need.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,46And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,46Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,46Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude,
praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.47praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.47praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.47praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved.
