1Now the allotment for the clans of the tribe of Judah extended to the border of Edom, to the Wilderness of Zin at the extreme southern boundary: 1וַיְהִ֣י הַגּוֹרָ֗ל לְמַטֵּ֛ה בְּנֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם אֶל־ גְּב֨וּל אֱד֧וֹם מִדְבַּר־ צִ֛ן נֶ֖גְבָּה מִקְצֵ֥ה תֵימָֽן׃
2Their southern border started at the bay on the southern tip of the Salt Sea, 2וַיְהִ֤י לָהֶם֙ גְּב֣וּל נֶ֔גֶב מִקְצֵ֖ה יָ֣ם הַמֶּ֑לַח מִן־ הַלָּשֹׁ֖ן הַפֹּנֶ֥ה נֶֽגְבָּה׃
3proceeded to the south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, continued on to Zin, went over to the south of Kadesh-barnea, ran past Hezron up to Addar, and curved toward Karka. 3וְ֠יָצָא אֶל־ מִנֶּ֜גֶב לְמַעֲלֵ֤ה עַקְרַבִּים֙ וְעָ֣בַר צִ֔נָה וְעָלָ֥ה מִנֶּ֖גֶב לְקָדֵ֣שׁ בַּרְנֵ֑עַ וְעָבַ֤ר חֶצְרוֹן֙ וְעָלָ֣ה אַדָּ֔רָה וְנָסַ֖ב הַקַּרְקָֽעָה׃
4It proceeded to Azmon, joined the Brook of Egypt, and ended at the Sea. This was their southern border. 4וְעָבַ֣ר עַצְמ֗וֹנָה וְיָצָא֙ נַ֣חַל מִצְרַ֔יִם [והיה] (וְהָי֛וּ) תֹּצְא֥וֹת הַגְּב֖וּל יָ֑מָּה זֶה־ יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֥וּל נֶֽגֶב׃
5The eastern border was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The northern border [started] from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan, 5וּגְב֥וּל קֵ֙דְמָה֙ יָ֣ם הַמֶּ֔לַח עַד־ קְצֵ֖ה הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן וּגְב֞וּל לִפְאַ֤ת צָפ֙וֹנָה֙ מִלְּשׁ֣וֹן הַיָּ֔ם מִקְצֵ֖ה הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
6went up to Beth-hoglah, proceeded north of Beth-arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 6וְעָלָ֤ה הַגְּבוּל֙ בֵּ֣ית חָגְלָ֔ה וְעָבַ֕ר מִצְּפ֖וֹן לְבֵ֣ית הָעֲרָבָ֑ה וְעָלָ֣ה הַגְּב֔וּל אֶ֥בֶן בֹּ֖הַן בֶּן־ רְאוּבֵֽן׃
7Then [the border] went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north to Gilgal, which faces the Ascent of Adummim south of the ravine. [It] continued along the waters of En-shemesh and came out at En-rogel. 7וְעָלָ֨ה הַגְּב֥וּל ׀ דְּבִרָה֮ מֵעֵ֣מֶק עָכוֹר֒ וְצָפ֜וֹנָה פֹּנֶ֣ה אֶל־ הַגִּלְגָּ֗ל אֲשֶׁר־ נֹ֙כַח֙ לְמַעֲלֵ֣ה אֲדֻמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִנֶּ֖גֶב לַנָּ֑חַל וְעָבַ֤ר הַגְּבוּל֙ אֶל־ מֵי־ עֵ֣ין שֶׁ֔מֶשׁ וְהָי֥וּ תֹצְאֹתָ֖יו אֶל־ עֵ֥ין רֹגֵֽל׃
8From there the border went up the Valley of Hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem) and ascended to the top of the hill that faces the Valley of Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of the Rephaim. 8וְעָלָ֨ה הַגְּב֜וּל גֵּ֣י בֶן־ הִנֹּ֗ם אֶל־ כֶּ֤תֶף הַיְבוּסִי֙ מִנֶּ֔גֶב הִ֖יא יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְעָלָ֨ה הַגְּב֜וּל אֶל־ רֹ֣אשׁ הָהָ֗ר אֲ֠שֶׁר עַל־ פְּנֵ֤י גֵֽי־ הִנֹּם֙ יָ֔מָּה אֲשֶׁ֛ר בִּקְצֵ֥ה עֵֽמֶק־ רְפָאִ֖ים צָפֹֽנָה׃
9From the hilltop the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then bent around toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim). 9וְתָאַ֨ר הַגְּב֜וּל מֵרֹ֣אשׁ הָהָ֗ר אֶל־ מַעְיַן֙ מֵ֣י נֶפְתּ֔וֹחַ וְיָצָ֖א אֶל־ עָרֵ֣י הַר־ עֶפְר֑וֹן וְתָאַ֤ר הַגְּבוּל֙ בַּעֲלָ֔ה הִ֖יא קִרְיַ֥ת יְעָרִֽים׃
10The border curled westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), went down to Beth-shemesh, and crossed to Timnah. 10וְנָסַב֩ הַגְּב֨וּל מִבַּעֲלָ֥ה יָ֙מָּה֙ אֶל־ הַ֣ר שֵׂעִ֔יר וְעָבַ֕ר אֶל־ כֶּ֧תֶף הַר־ יְעָרִ֛ים מִצָּפ֖וֹנָה הִ֣יא כְסָל֑וֹן וְיָרַ֥ד בֵּֽית־ שֶׁ֖מֶשׁ וְעָבַ֥ר תִּמְנָֽה׃
11Then [it] went out to the northern slope of Ekron, curved toward Shikkeron, proceeded to Mount Baalah, went on to Jabneel, and ended at the Sea. 11וְיָצָ֨א הַגְּב֜וּל אֶל־ כֶּ֣תֶף עֶקְרוֹן֮ צָפוֹנָה֒ וְתָאַ֤ר הַגְּבוּל֙ שִׁכְּר֔וֹנָה וְעָבַ֥ר הַר־ הַֽבַּעֲלָ֖ה וְיָצָ֣א יַבְנְאֵ֑ל וְהָי֛וּ תֹּצְא֥וֹת הַגְּב֖וּל יָֽמָּה׃
12And the western border was the coastline of the Great Sea. These are the boundaries around the clans of the descendants of Judah. 12וּגְב֣וּל יָ֔ם הַיָּ֥מָּה הַגָּד֖וֹל וּגְב֑וּל זֶ֠ה גְּב֧וּל בְּנֵֽי־ יְהוּדָ֛ה סָבִ֖יב לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃
13According to the LORD’s command to [him], [Joshua] gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a portion among the sons of Judah— Kiriath-arba, that [is], Hebron. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.) 13וּלְכָלֵ֣ב בֶּן־ יְפֻנֶּ֗ה נָ֤תַן חֵ֙לֶק֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ בְּנֵֽי־ יְהוּדָ֔ה אֶל־ פִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לִֽיהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ אֶת־ קִרְיַ֥ת אַרְבַּ֛ע אֲבִ֥י הָעֲנָ֖ק הִ֥יא חֶבְרֽוֹן׃
14And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak— the descendants of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 14וַיֹּ֤רֶשׁ מִשָּׁם֙ כָּלֵ֔ב אֶת־ שְׁלוֹשָׁ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י הָעֲנָ֑ק אֶת־ שֵׁשַׁ֤י וְאֶת־ אֲחִימַן֙ וְאֶת־ תַּלְמַ֔י יְלִידֵ֖י הָעֲנָֽק׃
15From there he marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher). 15וַיַּ֣עַל מִשָּׁ֔ם אֶל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֖י דְּבִ֑ר וְשֵׁם־ דְּבִ֥ר לְפָנִ֖ים קִרְיַת־ סֵֽפֶר׃
16And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the one who strikes down and captures Kiriath-sepher.” 16וַיֹּ֣אמֶר כָּלֵ֔ב אֲשֶׁר־ יַכֶּ֥ה אֶת־ קִרְיַת־ סֵ֖פֶר וּלְכָדָ֑הּ וְנָתַ֥תִּי ל֛וֹ אֶת־ עַכְסָ֥ה בִתִּ֖י לְאִשָּֽׁה׃
17So Othniel son of Caleb’s brother Kenaz took it, and Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage. 17וַֽיִּלְכְּדָ֛הּ עָתְנִיאֵ֥ל בֶּן־ קְנַ֖ז אֲחִ֣י כָלֵ֑ב וַיִּתֶּן־ ל֛וֹ אֶת־ עַכְסָ֥ה בִתּ֖וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃
18Later, [Acsah] came [to Othniel] and urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What would you like?” 18וַיְהִ֣י בְּבוֹאָ֗הּ וַתְּסִיתֵ֙הוּ֙ לִשְׁא֤וֹל מֵֽאֵת־ אָבִ֙יהָ֙ שָׂדֶ֔ה וַתִּצְנַ֖ח מֵעַ֣ל הַחֲמ֑וֹר וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ לָ֥הּ כָּלֵ֖ב מַה־ לָּֽךְ׃
19“Give me a blessing,” she replied. “Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So [Caleb] gave her the upper and lower springs. 19וַתֹּ֜אמֶר תְּנָה־ לִּ֣י בְרָכָ֗ה כִּ֣י אֶ֤רֶץ הַנֶּ֙גֶב֙ נְתַתָּ֔נִי וְנָתַתָּ֥ה לִ֖י גֻּלֹּ֣ת מָ֑יִם וַיִּתֶּן־ לָ֗הּ אֵ֚ת גֻּלֹּ֣ת עִלִּיּ֔וֹת וְאֵ֖ת גֻּלֹּ֥ת תַּחְתִּיּֽוֹת׃ פ
20This is the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Judah. 20זֹ֗את נַחֲלַ֛ת מַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵי־ יְהוּדָ֖ה לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃
21These were the southernmost cities of the tribe of Judah in the Negev toward the border of Edom: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur, 21וַיִּֽהְי֣וּ הֶעָרִ֗ים מִקְצֵה֙ לְמַטֵּ֣ה בְנֵֽי־ יְהוּדָ֔ה אֶל־ גְּב֥וּל אֱד֖וֹם בַּנֶּ֑גְבָּה קַבְצְאֵ֥ל וְעֵ֖דֶר וְיָגֽוּר׃
22Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 22וְקִינָ֥ה וְדִֽימוֹנָ֖ה וְעַדְעָדָֽה׃
23Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, 23וְקֶ֥דֶשׁ וְחָצ֖וֹר וְיִתְנָֽן׃
24Ziph, Telem, Bealoth, 24זִ֥יף וָטֶ֖לֶם וּבְעָלֽוֹת׃
25Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor), 25וְחָצ֤וֹר ׀ חֲדַתָּה֙ וּקְרִיּ֔וֹת חֶצְר֖וֹן הִ֥יא חָצֽוֹר׃
26Amam, Shema, Moladah, 26אֲמָ֥ם וּשְׁמַ֖ע וּמוֹלָדָֽה׃
27Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, Beth-pelet, 27וַחֲצַ֥ר גַּדָּ֛ה וְחֶשְׁמ֖וֹן וּבֵ֥ית פָּֽלֶט׃
28Hazar-shual, Beersheba, Biziothiah, 28וַחֲצַ֥ר שׁוּעָ֛ל וּבְאֵ֥ר שֶׁ֖בַע וּבִזְיוֹתְיָֽה׃
29Baalah, Iim, Ezem, 29בַּעֲלָ֥ה וְעִיִּ֖ים וָעָֽצֶם׃
30Eltolad, Chesil, Hormah, 30וְאֶלְתּוֹלַ֥ד וּכְסִ֖יל וְחָרְמָֽה׃
31Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, 31וְצִֽקְלַ֥ג וּמַדְמַנָּ֖ה וְסַנְסַנָּֽה׃
32Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon— twenty-nine cities in all, along with their villages. 32וּלְבָא֥וֹת וְשִׁלְחִ֖ים וְעַ֣יִן וְרִמּ֑וֹן כָּל־ עָרִ֛ים עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וָתֵ֖שַׁע וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃ ס
33[These were] in the foothills: Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah, 33בַּשְּׁפֵלָ֑ה אֶשְׁתָּא֥וֹל וְצָרְעָ֖ה וְאַשְׁנָֽה׃
34Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, Enam, 34וְזָנ֙וֹחַ֙ וְעֵ֣ין גַּנִּ֔ים תַּפּ֖וּחַ וְהָעֵינָֽם׃
35Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah, 35יַרְמוּת֙ וַעֲדֻלָּ֔ם שׂוֹכֹ֖ה וַעֲזֵקָֽה׃
36Shaaraim, Adithaim, and Gederah (or Gederothaim)— fourteen cities, along with their villages. 36וְשַׁעֲרַ֙יִם֙ וַעֲדִיתַ֔יִם וְהַגְּדֵרָ֖ה וּגְדֵרֹתָ֑יִם עָרִ֥ים אַרְבַּֽע־ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
37Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal-gad, 37צְנָ֥ן וַחֲדָשָׁ֖ה וּמִגְדַּל־ גָּֽד׃
38Dilan, Mizpeh, Joktheel, 38וְדִלְעָ֥ן וְהַמִּצְפֶּ֖ה וְיָקְתְאֵֽל׃
39Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon, 39לָכִ֥ישׁ וּבָצְקַ֖ת וְעֶגְלֽוֹן׃
40Cabbon, Lahmas, Chitlish, 40וְכַבּ֥וֹן וְלַחְמָ֖ס וְכִתְלִֽישׁ׃
41Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah— sixteen cities, along with their villages. 41וּגְדֵר֕וֹת בֵּית־ דָּג֥וֹן וְנַעֲמָ֖ה וּמַקֵּדָ֑ה עָרִ֥ים שֵׁשׁ־ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃ ס
42Libnah, Ether, Ashan, 42לִבְנָ֥ה וָעֶ֖תֶר וְעָשָֽׁן׃
43Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib, 43וְיִפְתָּ֥ח וְאַשְׁנָ֖ה וּנְצִֽיב׃
44Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah— nine cities, along with their villages. 44וּקְעִילָ֥ה וְאַכְזִ֖יב וּמָֽרֵאשָׁ֑ה עָרִ֥ים תֵּ֖שַׁע וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
45Ekron, with its towns and villages; 45עֶקְר֥וֹן וּבְנֹתֶ֖יהָ וַחֲצֵרֶֽיהָ׃
46from Ekron to the sea, all the cities near Ashdod, along with their villages; 46מֵעֶקְר֖וֹן וָיָ֑מָּה כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־ עַל־ יַ֥ד אַשְׁדּ֖וֹד וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
47Ashdod, with its towns and villages; Gaza, with its towns and villages, as far as the Brook of Egypt and the coastline of the Great Sea. 47אַשְׁדּ֞וֹד בְּנוֹתֶ֣יהָ וַחֲצֵרֶ֗יהָ עַזָּ֥ה בְּנוֹתֶ֥יהָ וַחֲצֵרֶ֖יהָ עַד־ נַ֣חַל מִצְרָ֑יִם וְהַיָּ֥ם [הגבול] (הַגָּד֖וֹל) וּגְבֽוּל׃ ס
48[These were] in the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, Socoh, 48וּבָהָ֑ר שָׁמִ֥יר וְיַתִּ֖יר וְשׂוֹכֹֽה׃
49Dannah, Kiriath-sannah (that is, Debir), 49וְדַנָּ֥ה וְקִרְיַת־ סַנָּ֖ה הִ֥יא דְבִֽר׃
50Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim, 50וַעֲנָ֥ב וְאֶשְׁתְּמֹ֖ה וְעָנִֽים׃
51Goshen, Holon, and Giloh— eleven cities, along with their villages. 51וְגֹ֥שֶׁן וְחֹלֹ֖ן וְגִלֹ֑ה עָרִ֥ים אַֽחַת־ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
52Arab, Dumah, Eshan, 52אֲרַ֥ב וְרוּמָ֖ה וְאֶשְׁעָֽן׃
53Janim, Beth-tappuah, Aphekah, 53[וינים] (וְיָנ֥וּם) וּבֵית־ תַּפּ֖וּחַ וַאֲפֵֽקָה׃
54Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior— nine cities, along with their villages. 54וְחֻמְטָ֗ה וְקִרְיַ֥ת אַרְבַּ֛ע הִ֥יא חֶבְר֖וֹן וְצִיעֹ֑ר עָרִ֥ים תֵּ֖שַׁע וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃ ס
55Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah, 55מָע֥וֹן ׀ כַּרְמֶ֖ל וָזִ֥יף וְיוּטָּֽה׃
56Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah, 56וְיִזְרְעֶ֥אל וְיָקְדְעָ֖ם וְזָנֽוֹחַ׃
57Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah— ten cities, along with their villages. 57הַקַּ֖יִן גִּבְעָ֣ה וְתִמְנָ֑ה עָרִ֥ים עֶ֖שֶׂר וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
58Halhul, Beth-zur, Gedor, 58חַלְח֥וּל בֵּֽית־ צ֖וּר וּגְדֽוֹר׃
59Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon— six cities, along with their villages. 59וּמַעֲרָ֥ת וּבֵית־ עֲנ֖וֹת וְאֶלְתְּקֹ֑ן עָרִ֥ים שֵׁ֖שׁ וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
60Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah— two cities, along with their villages. 60קִרְיַת־ בַּ֗עַל הִ֛יא קִרְיַ֥ת יְעָרִ֖ים וְהָֽרַבָּ֑ה עָרִ֥ים שְׁתַּ֖יִם וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃ ס
61[These were] in the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, Secacah, 61בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר בֵּ֚ית הָעֲרָבָ֔ה מִדִּ֖ין וּסְכָכָֽה׃
62Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi— six cities, along with their villages. 62וְהַנִּבְשָׁ֥ן וְעִיר־ הַמֶּ֖לַח וְעֵ֣ין גֶּ֑דִי עָרִ֥ים שֵׁ֖שׁ וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
63But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live [there] among the descendants of Judah. 63וְאֶת־ הַיְבוּסִי֙ יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֔ם לֹֽא־ [יוכלו] (יָכְל֥וּ) בְנֵֽי־ יְהוּדָ֖ה לְהֽוֹרִישָׁ֑ם וַיֵּ֨שֶׁב הַיְבוּסִ֜י אֶת־ בְּנֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ פ
