Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. | Therefore, any one of you who judges is without excuse. For when you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things. | Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. | Therefore you have no excuse, you foolish person, everyone of you who passes judgment; for in that matter in which you judge someone else, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. |
We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. | We know that God’s judgment on those who do such things is based on the truth. | But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. | And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. |
Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? | Do you really think—anyone of you who judges those who do such things yet do the same—that you will escape God’s judgment? | And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? | But do you suppose this, you foolish person who passes judgment on those who practice such things, and yet does them as well, that you will escape the judgment of God? |
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? | Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? | Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? | Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and restraint and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? |
But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. | But because of your hardness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed. | But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; | But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, |
He will render to each one according to his works: | He will repay each one according to his works: | Who will render to every man according to his deeds: | who WILL REPAY EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: |
to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; | eternal life to those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality; | To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: | to those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life; |
but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. | but wrath and indignation to those who are self-seeking and disobey the truth but are obeying unrighteousness; | But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, | but to those who are self-serving and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, He will give wrath and indignation. |
There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, | affliction and distress for every human being who does evil, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek; | Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; | There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of mankind who does evil, for the Jew first and also for the Greek, |
but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. | but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does what is good, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. | But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: | but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who does what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. |
For God shows no partiality. | There is no favoritism with God. | For there is no respect of persons with God. | For there is no partiality with God. |
For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. | All those who sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all those who sinned under the law will be judged by the law. | For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; | For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; |
For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. | For the hearers of the law are not righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be declared righteous. | (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. | for it is not the hearers of the Law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the Law who will be justified. |
For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. | So, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, instinctively do what the law demands, they are a law to themselves even though they do not have the law. | For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: | For when Gentiles who do not have the Law instinctively perform the requirements of the Law, these, though not having the Law, are a law to themselves, |
They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them | They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences confirm this. Their competing thoughts will either accuse or excuse them | Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) | in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, |
on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. | on the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus. | In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. | on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of mankind through Christ Jesus. |
But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God | Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rest in the law, boast in God, | Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, | But if you call yourself a Jew and rely upon the Law and boast in God, |
and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law; | know His will, and approve the things that are superior, being instructed from the law, | And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; | and know His will and distinguish the things that matter, being instructed from the Law, |
and if you are sure that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, | and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness, | And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, | and are confident that you yourself are a guide to people who are blind, a light to those in darkness, |
an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— | an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of the immature, having the full expression of knowledge and truth in the law— | An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. | a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, possessing in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth— |
you then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal? | you then, who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach, “You must not steal|—do you steal? | Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? | you, therefore, who teach someone else, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one is not to steal, do you steal? |
You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? | You who say, “You must not commit adultery|—do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob their temples? | Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? | You who say that one is not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who loathe idols, do you rob temples? |
You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law. | You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? | Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? | You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God? |
For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” | For, as it is written: The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you. | For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. | For “THE NAME OF GOD IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES BECAUSE OF YOU,” just as it is written. |
For circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision. | For circumcision benefits you if you observe the law, but if you are a lawbreaker, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. | For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. | For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a violator of the Law, your circumcision has turned into uncircumcision. |
So, if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the precepts of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? | Therefore if an uncircumcised man keeps the law’s requirements, will his uncircumcision not be counted as circumcision? | Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? | So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will his uncircumcision not be regarded as circumcision? |
Then he who is physically uncircumcised but keeps the law will condemn you who have the written code and circumcision but break the law. | A man who is physically uncircumcised, but who fulfills the law, will judge you who are a lawbreaker in spite of having the letter of the law and circumcision. | And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? | And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a violator of the Law? |
For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. | For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, and true circumcision is not something visible in the flesh. | For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: | For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. |
But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God. | On the contrary, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart—by the Spirit, not the letter. That man’s praise is not from men but from God. | But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. | But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from people, but from God. |
