11	But the crowds, having known it, followed Him; and having received them, He was speaking to them concerning the kingdom of God, and He was healing those having need of healing.	When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing.	but the crowds learned about it and followed him. 12	And the day began to decline, and having come, the Twelve said to Him, “Dismiss the crowd so that, having gone to the surrounding villages and fields, they might lodge and might find provisions; for we are in a wilderness place here.”	Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, “Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.”	Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”
13	But He said to them, “You⁺ give to them to eat.” But they said, “There are unto us no more than five loaves and two fish, unless, having gone, we should buy food for all this people.”	But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.”	He replied, “You give them something to eat.” They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.”
14	For they were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of about fifty.”	For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”	(About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”
15	And they did so and made all sit down.	And they did so, and had them all sit down.	The disciples did so, and everyone sat down.
16	And having taken the five loaves and the two fish, having looked up to the heaven, He blessed and broke them, and He was giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 19	And answering, they said, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, that a prophet, one of the ancients, was risen.”	And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.”	They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”
20	And He said to them, “But you⁺, who do you⁺ say I am?” And answering, Peter said, “The Christ of God.”	Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”	“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”
21	And having warned them, He instructed them to say this to no one,	And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one,	Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.
22	having said, “It is necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and on the third day to be raised.”	saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”	And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
23	And He was saying to all, “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross every day and follow Me.	And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.	Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
24	For whoever may want to save his life will lose it, but whoever may lose his life on account of Me, he will save it.	For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.	For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
25	For what is a man profited, having gained the whole world, and having destroyed or having suffered the loss of himself?	For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?	What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?
26	For whoever may be ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He shall come in His glory and that of the Father and of the holy angels.	For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.	Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
27	And I say to you⁺, truly, there are some of those standing here who shall not taste of death until they shall see the kingdom of God.”	But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”	“Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
28	And it came to pass about eight days after these words, and having taken with Him Peter and John and James, that He went up onto the mountain to pray. 29	And it came to pass in His praying that the appearance of His face was different and His clothing white, flashing forth. And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.	As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)
34	And in his saying these things, there was a cloud, and it was overshadowing them; and they feared in their entering into the cloud.	As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.	While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
35	And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, whom I have chosen; listen to Him!”	And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”	A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”
36	And on the voice having come, Jesus was found alone. And they were silent, and they reported to no one in those days anything of what they have seen.	And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.	When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

38	And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, saying, “Teacher, I implore You to look upon my son, because he is the only begotten unto me. 41	And answering, Jesus said, “O unbelieving and perverse generation, until when will I be with you⁺ and bear with you⁺? Bring your son here.”	“You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
42	And in his still coming near, the demon threw him down and threw him into convulsions. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and He healed the boy and gave him back to his father.	While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 44	“You⁺ let these words sink into your⁺ ears; for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.”	“Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.”	“Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”
45	But they were not knowing this saying, and it was veiled from them, so that they should not understand it. And they were afraid to ask Him about this saying.	But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.	But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
46	And a reasoning entered among them, who might be the greater of them.	An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest.	An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.
47	But Jesus, having known the reasoning of their heart, having taken hold of a little child, set him beside Himself,	But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side	Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him.
48	and He said to them, “Whoever shall receive this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever shall receive Me receives the One having sent Me. For the one being least among you⁺ all, he is great.”	and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great.”	Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”
49	And answering, John said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we were forbidding him because he does not follow with us.”	John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.”	“Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”
50	And Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid it; for whoever is not against you⁺ is for you⁺.”	But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.”	“Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”
51	And it came to pass in the completing of the days of His being taken up that He steadfastly set the face to go to Jerusalem.	When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.	As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.
52	And He sent messengers before His face, and having gone, they entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for Him.	And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him.	And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;
53	And they did not receive Him, because His face was going to Jerusalem.	But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.	but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.
54	And having seen it, the disciples James and John said, “Lord, do You want that we should call fire to come down from heaven and to consume them?”	And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”	When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”
55	But having turned, He rebuked them,	But he turned and rebuked them.	But Jesus turned and rebuked them.
56	and they went to another village.	And they went on to another village.	Then he and his disciples went to another village.
57	And in their going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You may go.”	As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”	As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58	And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere He might lay the head.”	And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”	Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
59	And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, allow me first, having gone away, to bury my father.”	To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”	He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60	But He said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but you, having gone away, declare the kingdom of God.”	And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”	Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
61	And yet another said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first allow me to bid farewell to those at my home.”	Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.”	Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
62	But Jesus said to him, “No one having laid the hand upon the plow and looking to the things behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”	Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”	Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
