1	And it came to pass, on one of the days, as He was teaching the people in the temple, and proclaiming the Gospel, that there came upon Him the high priests and the scribes with the elders,	One day, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up	One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him.
2	and spake, saying to Him, "Tell us by what authority Thou art doing these things, or who gave Thee this authority?"	and said to him, “Tell us by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority.”	“Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they said. “Who gave you this authority?”
3	And, answering, He said to them, "I, too, will ask you a question; and tell Me:	He answered them, “I also will ask you a question. Now tell me,	He replied, “I will also ask you a question. Tell me:
4	The immersion of John, was it from Heaven, or of men?"	was the baptism of John from heaven or from man?”	John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin?”
5	And they reasoned together with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From Heaven,' He will say, 'Why did ye not believe him?'	And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’	They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’
6	and if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet."	But if we say, ‘From man,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”	But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet.”
7	And they answered that they knew not whence it was ;	So they answered that they did not know where it came from.	So they answered, “We don’t know where it was from.”
8	and Jesus said to them, "Neither do I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."	And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”	Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”
9	And He began to speak to the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time.	And he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and let it out to tenants and went into another country for a long while.	He went on to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time.
10	And, at the season, he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen, beating him , sent him away empty.	When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, so that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.	At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11	"And he seat still another servant: and him also, having beaten and dishonored, they sent away empty.	And he sent another servant. 13	"And the lord of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my son, the beloved; perhaps they will reverence him.'	Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’	“Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him.’
14	"But, seeing him, the husbandmen were reasoning one with another, saying, 'This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours.'	But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.’	“But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. ‘This is the heir,’ they said. ‘Let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’
15	And, having thrust him forth out of the vineyard, they slew him . What, therefore, will the lord of the vineyard do to them?	And they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?	So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. “What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16	He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and give the vineyard to others." And, having heard it , they said, "May it not be!"	He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” When they heard this, they said, “Surely not!”	He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” When the people heard this, they said, “God forbid!”
17	And He, looking upon them, said, "What, then, is this that has been written? 'A stone which the builders rejected, the same became a head of the corner.'	But he looked directly at them and said, “What then is this that is written: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?	Jesus looked directly at them and asked, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: “’The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?
18	'Every one who falls on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust!'	Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”	Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”
19	And the scribes and the high priests sought to lay hands on Him in that very hour; and they feared the people; for they knew that He spake the parable against them.	The scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him at that very hour, for they perceived that he had told this parable against them, but they feared the people.	The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.
20	And, watching Him , they sent forth spies, feigning themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of His speech, so as to deliver Him up to the rule and the authority of the governor.	So they watched him and sent spies, who pretended to be sincere, that they might catch him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor.	Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.
21	And they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, we know that Thou sayest and teachest rightly, and regardest no person, but teachest the way of God in truth.	So they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and show no partiality, but truly teach the way of God.	So the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
22	Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"	Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?”	Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23	But, perceiving their craftiness, He said to them,	But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,	He saw through their duplicity and said to them,
24	"Show Me a denary. Whose image and inscription has it ?" And, answering; they said, "Caesar's."	“Show me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.”	“Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” “Caesar’s,” they replied.
25	And He said to them, "Then, render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."	He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”	He said to them, “Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
26	And they were not able to lay hold of any saying of His before the people; and, marvelling at His answer, they were silent.	And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him in what he said, but marveling at his answer they became silent.	They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
27	And some of the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, coming near, asked Him,	There came to him some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection,	Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question.
28	saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us, 'If any one's brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, that his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed to his brother.'	and they asked him a question, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.	“Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.
29	There were, therefore, seven brothers; and the first, taking a wife, died childless.	Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died without children.	Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless.
30	And the second, and the third, took her;	And the second	The second
31	and, in like manner also, the seven left no children, and died.	and the third took her, and likewise all seven left no children and died.	and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children.
32	At last the woman also died.	Afterward the woman also died.	Finally, the woman died too.
33	In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of them does the woman become? for the seven had her as wife."	In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife.”	Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
34	And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage;	And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,	Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage.
35	but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage;	but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,	But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage,
36	for neither can they die any more; for they are equal to the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.	for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.	and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection.
37	But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the 'Bush,' when he calls the Lord 'The God of Abraham the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'	But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.	But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
38	Now He is not a God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him."	Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.”	He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
39	And some of the scribes, answering, said, "Teacher, Thou spakest well;"	Then some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well.”	Some of the teachers of the law responded, “Well said, teacher!”
40	for no longer were they daring to question Him.	For they no longer dared to ask him any question.	And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
41	And He said to them, "How say they that the Christ is David's Son?	But he said to them, “How can they say that the Christ is David’s son?	Then Jesus said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David?
42	For David himself says in the book of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand,	For David himself says in the Book of Psalms, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,	David himself declares in the Book of Psalms: “’The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
43	until I make Thy enemies a footstool of Thy feet.'	until I make your enemies your footstool.”’	until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.\|’
44	David, therefore, calls Him Lord; and how is He his Son?"	David thus calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”	David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
45	And, while all the people were hearing, He said to the disciples,	And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples,	While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples,
46	"Beware of the scribes, who wish to walk about in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at feasts;	“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,	“Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
47	who devour the houses of widows; and, for a pretense, make long prayers. These shall receive greater condemnation."	who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”	They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”
