1	Now there were some present at that very season which told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.	There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.	Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
2	And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things?	And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way?	Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?
3	I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish.	No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.	I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
4	Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem?	Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem?	Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?
5	I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.	No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”	I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
6	And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none.	And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.	Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any.
7	And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground?	And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’	So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
8	And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:	And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure.	“’Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it.
9	and if it bear fruit thenceforth, well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down.	Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”	If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”
10	And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day.	Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.	On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,
11	And behold, a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up.	And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself.	and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all.
12	And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.	When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.”	When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.”
13	And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.	And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.	Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
14	And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath.	But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.”	Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”
15	But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?	Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it?	The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?
16	And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, these eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?	And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”	Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”
17	And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.	As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.	When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.
18	He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it?	He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?	Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to?
19	It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof.	It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”	It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”
20	And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?	And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?	Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to?
21	It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.	It is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”	It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
22	And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem.	He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem.	Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.
23	And one said unto him, Lord, are they few that be saved? And he said unto them,	And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them,	Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” He said to them,
24	Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able.	“Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.	“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.
25	When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are;	When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’	Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’
26	then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets;	Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’	“Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’
27	and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.	But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’	“But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’
28	There shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without.	In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves cast out.	“There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.
29	And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.	And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God.	People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.
30	And behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.	And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”	Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”
31	In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee.	At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.”	At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.”
32	And he said unto them, Go and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out devils and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I am perfected.	And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course.	He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’
33	Howbeit I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.	Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’	In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!
34	O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!	O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!	“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
35	Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.	Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”	Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
