1 אַף־ לְ֭זֹאת יֶחֱרַ֣ד לִבִּ֑י וְ֝יִתַּ֗ר מִמְּקוֹמֽוֹ׃ “At this also my heart trembles and leaps out of its place. “At this my heart pounds and leaps from its place.
2 שִׁמְע֤וּ שָׁמ֣וֹעַ בְּרֹ֣גֶז קֹל֑וֹ וְ֝הֶ֗גֶה מִפִּ֥יו יֵצֵֽא׃ Keep listening to the thunder of his voice and the rumbling that comes from his mouth. Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3 תַּֽחַת־ כָּל־ הַשָּׁמַ֥יִם יִשְׁרֵ֑הוּ וְ֝אוֹר֗וֹ עַל־ כַּנְפ֥וֹת הָאָֽרֶץ׃ Under the whole heaven he lets it go, and his lightning to the corners of the earth. He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth.
4 אַחֲרָ֤יו ׀ יִשְׁאַג־ ק֗וֹל יַ֭רְעֵם בְּק֣וֹל גְּאוֹנ֑וֹ וְלֹ֥א יְ֝עַקְּבֵ֗ם כִּֽי־ יִשָּׁמַ֥ע קוֹלֽוֹ׃ After it his voice roars; he thunders with his majestic voice, and he does not restrain the lightnings when his voice is heard. After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders with his majestic voice. When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back.
5 יַרְעֵ֤ם אֵ֣ל בְּ֭קוֹלוֹ נִפְלָא֑וֹת עֹשֶׂ֥ה גְ֝דֹל֗וֹת וְלֹ֣א נֵדָֽע׃ God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend. God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.
6 כִּ֤י לַשֶּׁ֨לַג ׀‪‬ יֹאמַ֗ר הֱוֵ֫א אָ֥רֶץ וְגֶ֥שֶׁם מָטָ֑ר וְ֝גֶ֗שֶׁם מִטְר֥וֹת עֻזּֽוֹ׃ For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’
7 בְּיַד־ כָּל־ אָדָ֥ם יַחְתּ֑וֹם לָ֝דַ֗עַת כָּל־ אַנְשֵׁ֥י מַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃ He seals up the hand of every man, that all men whom he made may know it. So that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor.
8 וַתָּבֹ֣א חַיָּ֣ה בְמוֹ־ אָ֑רֶב וּבִמְע֖וֹנֹתֶ֣יהָ תִשְׁכֹּֽן׃ Then the beasts go into their lairs, and remain in their dens. The animals take cover; they remain in their dens.
9 מִן־ הַ֭חֶדֶר תָּב֣וֹא סוּפָ֑ה וּֽמִמְּזָרִ֥ים קָרָֽה׃ From its chamber comes the whirlwind, and cold from the scattering winds. The tempest comes out from its chamber, the cold from the driving winds.
10 מִנִּשְׁמַת־ אֵ֥ל יִתֶּן־ קָ֑רַח וְרֹ֖חַב מַ֣יִם בְּמוּצָֽק׃ By the breath of God ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen fast. The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen.
11 אַף־ בְּ֭רִי יַטְרִ֣יחַ עָ֑ב יָ֝פִ֗יץ עֲנַ֣ן אוֹרֽוֹ׃ He loads the thick cloud with moisture; the clouds scatter his lightning. He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through them.
12 וְה֤וּא מְסִבּ֨וֹת ׀ מִתְהַפֵּ֣ךְ [בתחבולתו] (בְּתַחְבּוּלֹתָ֣יו) לְפָעֳלָ֑ם כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יְצַוֵּ֓ם ׀ עַל־ פְּנֵ֖י תֵבֵ֣ל אָֽרְצָה׃ They turn around and around by his guidance, to accomplish all that he commands them on the face of the habitable world. At his direction they swirl around over the face of the whole earth to do whatever he commands them.
13 אִם־ לְשֵׁ֥בֶט אִם־ לְאַרְצ֑וֹ אִם־ לְ֝חֶ֗סֶד יַמְצִאֵֽהוּ׃ Whether for correction or for his land or for love, he causes it to happen. He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love.
14 הַאֲזִ֣ינָה זֹּ֣את אִיּ֑וֹב עֲ֝מֹ֗ד וְהִתְבּוֹנֵ֤ן ׀ נִפְלְא֬וֹת אֵֽל׃ “Hear this, O Job; stop and consider the wondrous works of God. “Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders.
15 הֲ֭תֵדַע בְּשׂוּם־ אֱל֣וֹהַּ עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וְ֝הוֹפִ֗יעַ א֣וֹר עֲנָנֽוֹ׃ Do you know how God lays his command upon them and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine? Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash?
16 הֲ֭תֵדַע עַל־ מִפְלְשֵׂי־ עָ֑ב מִ֝פְלְא֗וֹת תְּמִ֣ים דֵּעִֽים׃ Do you know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge, Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?
17 אֲשֶׁר־ בְּגָדֶ֥יךָ חַמִּ֑ים בְּהַשְׁקִ֥ט אֶ֝֗רֶץ מִדָּרֽוֹם׃ you whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind? You who swelter in your clothes when the land lies hushed under the south wind,
18 תַּרְקִ֣יעַ עִ֭מּוֹ לִשְׁחָקִ֑ים חֲ֝זָקִ֗ים כִּרְאִ֥י מוּצָֽק׃ Can you, like him, spread out the skies, hard as a cast metal mirror? can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?
19 ה֭וֹדִיעֵנוּ מַה־ נֹּ֣אמַר ל֑וֹ לֹ֥א־ נַ֝עֲרֹ֗ךְ מִפְּנֵי־ חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ Teach us what we shall say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of darkness. “Tell us what we should say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.
20 הַֽיְסֻפַּר־ ל֭וֹ כִּ֣י אֲדַבֵּ֑ר אִֽם־ אָ֥מַר אִ֝֗ישׁ כִּ֣י יְבֻלָּֽע׃ Shall it be told him that I would speak? Did a man ever wish that he would be swallowed up? Should he be told that I want to speak? Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?
21 וְעַתָּ֤ה ׀ לֹ֘א רָ֤אוּ א֗וֹר בָּהִ֣יר ה֭וּא בַּשְּׁחָקִ֑ים וְר֥וּחַ עָ֝בְרָ֗ה וַֽתְּטַהֲרֵֽם׃ “And now no one looks on the light when it is bright in the skies, when the wind has passed and cleared them. Now no one can look at the sun, bright as it is in the skies after the wind has swept them clean.
22 מִ֭צָּפוֹן זָהָ֣ב יֶֽאֱתֶ֑ה עַל־ אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ נ֣וֹרָא הֽוֹד׃ Out of the north comes golden splendor; God is clothed with awesome majesty. Out of the north he comes in golden splendor; God comes in awesome majesty.
23 שַׁדַּ֣י לֹֽא־ מְ֭צָאנֻהוּ שַׂגִּיא־ כֹ֑חַ וּמִשְׁפָּ֥ט וְרֹב־ צְ֝דָקָ֗ה לֹ֣א יְעַנֶּֽה׃ The Almighty—we cannot find him; he is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness he will not violate. The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.
24 לָ֭כֵן יְרֵא֣וּהוּ אֲנָשִׁ֑ים לֹֽא־ יִ֝רְאֶ֗ה כָּל־ חַכְמֵי־ לֵֽב׃ פ Therefore men fear him; he does not regard any who are wise in their own conceit.” Therefore, people revere him, for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?”
