1 The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
2 “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book. “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.
3 For behold, days are coming,’ declares Yahweh, ‘when I will return the fortunes of My people Israel and Judah.’ Yahweh says, ‘I will also cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’” For behold, days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the LORD, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it.” The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivity and restore them to the land I gave their ancestors to possess,’ says the LORD.”
4 Now these are the words which Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah: These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah: These are the words the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah:
5 “For thus says Yahweh, ‘We have heard a sound of trembling, Of dread, and there is no peace. “Thus says the LORD: We have heard a cry of panic, of terror, and no peace. “This is what the LORD says: “’Cries of fear are heard— terror, not peace.
6 Ask now, and see If a male can give birth. Why do I see every man With his hands on his loins, as a woman in childbirth? And why have all faces turned pale? Ask now, and see, can a man bear a child? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor? Why has every face turned pale? Ask and see: Can a man bear children? Then why do I see every strong man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor, every face turned deathly pale?
7 Alas! For that day is great, There is none like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s distress, But he will be saved from it. Alas! That day is so great there is none like it; it is a time of distress for Jacob; yet he shall be saved out of it. How awful that day will be! No other will be like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it.
8 ‘And it will be in that day,’ declares Yahweh of hosts, ‘that I will break his yoke from off your neck and will tear off your bonds; and strangers will no longer make them their slaves. “And it shall come to pass in that day, declares the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and I will burst your bonds, and foreigners shall no more make a servant of him. “’In that day,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘I will break the yoke off their necks and will tear off their bonds; no longer will foreigners enslave them.
9 But they shall be a slave to Yahweh their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. But they shall serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. Instead, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
10 Fear not, O Jacob My servant,’ declares Yahweh, ‘And do not be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you from afar And your seed from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease, And no one will make him tremble. “Then fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the LORD, nor be dismayed, O Israel; for behold, I will save you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid. “’So do not be afraid, Jacob my servant; do not be dismayed, Israel,’ declares the LORD. ‘I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security, and no one will make him afraid.
11 For I am with you,’ declares Yahweh, ‘to save you; For I will make a complete destruction of all the nations where I have scattered you, Only I will not make a complete destruction of you. But I will chasten you justly And will by no means leave you unpunished.’ For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD; I will make a full end of all the nations among whom I scattered you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished. I am with you and will save you,’ declares the LORD. ‘Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.’
12 “For thus says Yahweh, ‘Your injury is incurable, And your wound is desperately sick. “For thus says the LORD: Your hurt is incurable, and your wound is grievous. “This is what the LORD says: “’Your wound is incurable, your injury beyond healing.
13 There is no one to plead your cause; No healing for your sore, No recovery for you. There is none to uphold your cause, no medicine for your wound, no healing for you. There is no one to plead your cause, no remedy for your sore, no healing for you.
14 All your lovers have forgotten you; They do not seek you; For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, With the punishment of a cruel one, Because your iniquity is numerous And your sins are mighty. All your lovers have forgotten you; they care nothing for you; for I have dealt you the blow of an enemy, the punishment of a merciless foe, because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant. All your allies have forgotten you; they care nothing for you. I have struck you as an enemy would and punished you as would the cruel, because your guilt is so great and your sins so many.
15 Why do you cry out over your injury? Your pain is incurable. Because your iniquity is numerous And your sins are mighty, I have done these things to you. Why do you cry out over your hurt? Your pain is incurable. Because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant, I have done these things to you. Why do you cry out over your wound, your pain that has no cure? Because of your great guilt and many sins I have done these things to you.
16 Therefore all who devour you will be devoured; And all your adversaries, every one of them, will go into captivity; And those who take you as spoil will be spoil, And all who plunder you I will give as plunder. Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured, and all your foes, every one of them, shall go into captivity; those who plunder you shall be plundered, and all who prey on you I will make a prey. “’But all who devour you will be devoured; all your enemies will go into exile. Those who plunder you will be plundered; all who make spoil of you I will despoil.
17 For I will restore you to health, And I will heal you of your wounds,’ declares Yahweh, ‘Because they have called you a banished one, saying: “It is Zion; no one is seeking her.”’ For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the LORD, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’ But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’
18 “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I will return the fortunes of the tents of Jacob And have compassion on his dwelling places; And the city will be rebuilt on its ruin, And the palace will sit on its just place. “Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings; the city shall be rebuilt on its mound, and the palace shall stand where it used to be. “This is what the LORD says: “’I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have compassion on his dwellings; the city will be rebuilt on her ruins, and the palace will stand in its proper place.
19 From them will come forth thanksgiving And the voice of those who celebrate; And I will multiply them, and they will not decrease; I will also honor them, and they will not be insignificant. Out of them shall come songs of thanksgiving, and the voices of those who celebrate. I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will make them honored, and they shall not be small. From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained.
20 Their children also will be as formerly, And their congregation shall be established before Me; And I will punish all their oppressors. Their children shall be as they were of old, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all who oppress them. Their children will be as in days of old, and their community will be established before me; I will punish all who oppress them.
21 And their mighty one shall be one of them, And their ruler shall come forth from their midst; And I will bring Him near, and He shall approach Me; For who would dare to give his heart as security to approach Me?’ declares Yahweh. Their prince shall be one of themselves; their ruler shall come out from their midst; I will make him draw near, and he shall approach me, for who would dare of himself to approach me? declares the LORD. Their leader will be one of their own; their ruler will arise from among them. I will bring him near and he will come close to me— for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?’ declares the LORD.
22 ‘You shall be My people, And I will be your God.’” And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.” “’So you will be my people, and I will be your God.’”
23 Behold, the storm of Yahweh! Wrath has gone forth, A sweeping storm; It will burst on the head of the wicked. Behold the storm of the LORD! Wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked. See, the storm of the LORD will burst out in wrath, a driving wind swirling down on the heads of the wicked.
24 The burning anger of Yahweh will not turn back Until He has done and until He has established The intent of His heart; In the last days you will understand this. The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intentions of his mind. In the latter days you will understand this. The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand this.
