1 Then God said to Jacob, |Go to Bethel and live there. Make an altar there. I am the God who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.| God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.” Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”
2 So Jacob said to his family and those who were with him, |Get rid of the foreign gods which you have, wash yourselves until you are ritually clean, and change your clothes. And as her soul was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin. As she breathed her last—for she was dying—she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin.
