1 These are the generations of the sons of Noe: Sem, Cham, and Japheth: and unto them sons were born after the flood. These are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood. This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.
2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Thubal, and Mosoch, and Thiras. The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras.
3 And the sons of Gomer: Ascenez and Riphath and Thogorma. The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.
4 And the sons of Javan: Elisa and Tharsis, Cetthim, and Dodanim. The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites.
5 By these were divided the islands of the Gentiles in their lands, every one according to his tongue and their families in their nations. From these the coastland peoples spread in their lands, each with his own language, by their clans, in their nations. (From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.)
6 And the sons of Cham: Chus, and Mesram, and Phuth, and Chanaan. The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.
7 And the sons of Chus: Saba and Hevila, and Sabatha, and Regma, and Sabatacha. The sons of Regma: Saba and Dadan. The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteka. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
8 Now Chus begot Nemrod: he began to be mighty on earth. Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man. Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth.
9 And he was a stout hunter before the Lord. Hence came a proverb: Even as Nemrod the stout hunter before the Lord. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD.” He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Arach, and Achad, and Chalanne in the land of Sennaar. The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar.
11 Out of that land came forth Assur, and built Ninive, and the streets of the city, and Chale. From that land he went into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, and From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah
12 Resen also between Ninive and Chale: this is the great city. Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.
13 And Mesraim begot Ludim, and Anamim, and Laabim, Nepthuim, Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Egypt was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,
14 And Phetrusim, and Chasluim; of whom came forth the Philistines, and the Capthorim. Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim. Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites.
15 And Chanaan begot Sidon, his firstborn, the Hethite, Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth, Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,
16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite, and the Gergesite, and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,
17 The Hevite and the Aracite: the Sinite, the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,
18 And the Aradian, the Samarite, and the Hamathite: and afterwards the families of the Chanaanites were spread abroad. the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the clans of the Canaanites dispersed. Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scattered
19 And the limits of Chanaan were from Sidon as one comes to Gerara even to Gaza, until thou enter Sodom and Gomorrha, and Adama, and Seboim even to Lesa. And the territory of the Canaanites extended from Sidon in the direction of Gerar as far as Gaza, and in the direction of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.
20 These are the children of Cham in their kindreds, and tongues, and generations, and lands, and nations. These are the sons of Ham, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations. These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.
21 Of Sem also, the father of all children of Heber, the elder brother of Japheth, sons were born. To Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, children were born. Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber.
22 The sons of Sem: Elam and Assur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram. The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. The sons of Shem: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.
23 The sons of Aram: Us and Hull, and Gether: and Mess. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.
24 But Arphaxad begot Sale, of whom was born Heber. Arpachshad fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber. Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah the father of Eber.
25 And to Heber were born two sons: the name of the one was Phaleg, because in his days the earth was divided: and his brother's name Jectan. To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan. Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.
26 Which Jectan begot Elmodad, and Saleph, and Asarmoth, Jare, Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 And Anduram, and Uzal, and Decla, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 And Ebal, and Abimael, Saba, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29 And Ophir, and Hevila, and Jobab. Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.
30 And their dwelling was from Messa as we go on as far as Sephar, a mountain in the east. The territory in which they lived extended from Mesha in the direction of Sephar to the hill country of the east. The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country.
31 These are the children of Sem according to their kindreds and tongues, and countries in their nations. These are the sons of Shem, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations. These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.
32 These are the families of Noe, according to their peoples and nations. By these were the nations divided on the earth after the flood. These are the clans of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, in their nations, and from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood. These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
