1	And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,	The word of the LORD came to me:
2	And thou son of man, dost thou not judge, dost thou not judge the city of blood?	“And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then declare to her all her abominations.	“Son of man, will you judge her? Will you judge this city of bloodshed? Then confront her with all her detestable practices
3	And thou shalt shew her all her abominations, and shalt say: Thus saith the Lord God: This is the city that sheddeth blood in the midst of her, that her time may come: and that hath made idols against herself, to defile herself.	You shall say, Thus says the Lord GOD: A city that sheds blood in her midst, so that her time may come, and that makes idols to defile herself!	and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: You city that brings on herself doom by shedding blood in her midst and defiles herself by making idols,
4	Thou art become guilty in thy blood which thou hast shed: and thou art defiled in thy idols which thou hast made: and thou hast made thy days to draw near, and hast brought on the time of thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach to the Gentiles, and a mockery to all countries.	You have become guilty by the blood that you have shed, and defiled by the idols that you have made, and you have brought your days near, the appointed time of your years has come. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mockery to all the countries.	you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed and have become defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.
5	Those that are near, and those that are far from thee, shall triumph over thee: thou filthy one, infamous, great in destruction.	Those who are near and those who are far from you will mock you; your name is defiled; you are full of tumult.	Those who are near and those who are far away will mock you, you infamous city, full of turmoil.
6	Behold the princes of Israel, every one hath employed his arm in thee to shed blood.	“Behold, the princes of Israel in you, every one according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood.	“’See how each of the princes of Israel who are in you uses his power to shed blood.
7	They have abused father and mother in thee, they have oppressed the stranger in the midst of thee, they have grieved the fatherless and widow in thee.	Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow are wronged in you.	In you they have treated father and mother with contempt; in you they have oppressed the foreigner and mistreated the fatherless and the widow.
8	Thou hast despised my sanctuaries, and profaned my sabbaths.	You have despised my holy things and profaned my Sabbaths.	You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths.
9	Slanderers have been in thee to shed blood, and they have eaten upon the mountains in thee, they have committed wickedness in the midst of thee.	There are men in you who slander to shed blood, and people in you who eat on the mountains; they commit lewdness in your midst.	In you are slanderers who are bent on shedding blood; in you are those who eat at the mountain shrines and commit lewd acts.
10	They have discovered the nakedness of their father in thee, they have humbled the uncleanness of the menstruous woman in thee.	In you men uncover their fathers’ nakedness; in you they violate women who are unclean in their menstrual impurity.	In you are those who dishonor their father’s bed; in you are those who violate women during their period, when they are ceremonially unclean.
11	And every one hath committed abomination with his neighbour's wife, and the father in law hath wickedly defiled his daughter in law, the brother hath oppressed his sister the daughter of his father in thee.	One commits abomination with his neighbor’s wife; another lewdly defiles his daughter-in-law; another in you violates his sister, his father’s daughter.	In you one man commits a detestable offense with his neighbor’s wife, another shamefully defiles his daughter-in-law, and another violates his sister, his own father’s daughter.
12	They have taken gifts in thee to shed blood: thou hast taken usury and increase, and hast covetously oppressed thy neighbours: and then hast forgotten me, saith the Lord God.	In you they take bribes to shed blood; you take interest and profit and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; but me you have forgotten, declares the Lord GOD.	In you are people who accept bribes to shed blood; you take interest and make a profit from the poor. You extort unjust gain from your neighbors. And you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD.
13	Behold, I have clapped my hands at thy covetousness, which thou hast exercised and at the blood that hath been shed: In the midst of thee.	“Behold, I strike my hand at the dishonest gain that you have made, and at the blood that has been in your midst.	“’I will surely strike my hands together at the unjust gain you have made and at the blood you have shed in your midst.
14	Shall thy heart endure, or shall thy hands prevail ill the days which I will bring upon thee: I the Lord have spoken, and will do it.	Can your courage endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.	Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.
15	And I will disperse thee in the nations, and will scatter thee among the countries, and I will put an end to thy uncleanness in thee.	I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you through the countries, and I will consume your uncleanness out of you.	I will disperse you among the nations and scatter you through the countries; and I will put an end to your uncleanness.
16	And I will possess thee in the sight of the Gentiles, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.	And you shall be profaned by your own doing in the sight of the nations, and you shall know that I am the LORD.”	When you have been defiled in the eyes of the nations, you will know that I am the LORD.’”
17	And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	And the word of the LORD came to me:	Then the word of the LORD came to me:
18	Son of man, the house of Israel is become dress to me: all these are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace: they are become the dress of silver.	“Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me; all of them are bronze and tin and iron and lead in the furnace; they are dross of silver.	“Son of man, the people of Israel have become dross to me; all of them are the copper, tin, iron and lead left inside a furnace. They are but the dross of silver.
19	Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Because you are all turned into dress, therefore behold I will gather you together in the midst of Jerusalem.	Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.	Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘Because you have all become dross, I will gather you into Jerusalem.
20	As they gather silver, and brass, and tin, and iron, and lead in the midst of the furnace: that I may kindle a fire in it to melt it: so will I gather you together in my fury and in my wrath, and will take my rest, and I will melt you down.	As one gathers silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin into a furnace, to blow the fire on it in order to melt it, so I will gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will put you in and melt you.	As silver, copper, iron, lead and tin are gathered into a furnace to be melted with a fiery blast, so will I gather you in my anger and my wrath and put you inside the city and melt you.
21	And I will gather you together, and will burn you in the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst thereof.	I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it.	I will gather you and I will blow on you with my fiery wrath, and you will be melted inside her.
22	As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall you be in the midst thereof: and you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have poured out my indignation upon you.	As silver is melted in a furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it, and you shall know that I am the LORD; I have poured out my wrath upon you.”	As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted inside her, and you will know that I the LORD have poured out my wrath on you.’”
23	And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	And the word of the LORD came to me:	Again the word of the LORD came to me:
24	Son of man, say to her: Thou art a land that is unclean, and not rained upon in the day of wrath.	“Son of man, say to her, You are a land that is not cleansed or rained upon in the day of indignation.	“Son of man, say to the land, ‘You are a land that has not been cleansed or rained on in the day of wrath.’
25	There is a conspiracy of prophets in the midst thereof: like a lion that roareth and catcheth the prey, they have devoured souls, they have taken riches and hire, they have made many widows in the midst thereof.	The conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst.	There is a conspiracy of her princes within her like a roaring lion tearing its prey; they devour people, take treasures and precious things and make many widows within her.
26	Her priests have despised my law, and have defiled my sanctuaries: they have put no difference between holy and profane: nor have distinguished between the polluted and the clean: and they have turned away their eyes from my sabbaths, and I was profaned in the midst of them.	Her priests have done violence to my law and have profaned my holy things. They have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and they have disregarded my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.	Her priests do violence to my law and profane my holy things; they do not distinguish between the holy and the common; they teach that there is no difference between the unclean and the clean; and they shut their eyes to the keeping of my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.
27	Her princes in the midst of her, are like wolves ravening the prey to shed blood, and to destroy souls, and to run after gains through covetousness.	Her princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain.	Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.
28	And her prophets have daubed them without tempering the mortar, seeing vain things, and divining lies unto them, saying: Thus saith the Lord God: when the Lord hath not spoken.	And her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD,’ when the LORD has not spoken.	Her prophets whitewash these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says’—when the LORD has not spoken.
29	The people of the land have used oppression, and committed robbery: they afflicted the needy and poor, and they oppressed the stranger by calumny without judgment.	The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and have extorted from the sojourner without justice.	The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the foreigner, denying them justice.
30	And I sought among them for a man that might set up a hedge, and stand in the gap before me in favour of the land, that I might not destroy it: and I found none.	And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.	“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.
31	And I poured out my indignation upon them, in the fire of my wrath I consumed them: I have rendered their way upon their own head, saith the Lord God.	Therefore I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord GOD.”	So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD.”
