1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: |I will sing to the LORD. He has won a glorious victory. He has thrown horses and their riders into the sea. Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, “I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.
2 The LORD is my strength and my song. He is my Savior. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will honor him. The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. “The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
3 The LORD is a warrior! The LORD is his name. The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name. The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.
4 He has thrown Pharaoh's chariots and army into the sea. Pharaoh's best officers were drowned in the Red Sea. “Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he cast into the sea, and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea. Pharaoh’s chariots and his army he has hurled into the sea. The best of Pharaoh’s officers are drowned in the Red Sea.
5 The deep water covered them. They sank to the bottom like a rock. The floods covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone. The deep waters have covered them; they sank to the depths like a stone.
6 Your right hand, O LORD, wins glory because it is strong. Your right hand, O LORD, smashes your enemies. Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy. Your right hand, LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, LORD, shattered the enemy.
7 With your unlimited majesty, you destroyed those who attacked you. You sent out your burning anger. It burned them up like straw. In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble. “In the greatness of your majesty you threw down those who opposed you. You unleashed your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble.
8 With a blast from your nostrils, the water piled up. The waves stood up like a dam. The deep water thickened in the middle of the sea. At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up; the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea. By the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters stood up like a wall; the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 |The enemy said, 'I'll pursue them! I'll catch up with them! I'll divide the loot! I'll take all I want! I'll use my sword! I'll take all they have!' The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’ The enemy boasted, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and my hand will destroy them.’
10 Your breath blew the sea over them. They sank like lead in the raging water. You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters. But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11 |Who is like you among the gods, O LORD? Who is like you? You are glorious because of your holiness and awe-inspiring because of your splendor. You perform miracles. “Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? Who among the gods is like you, LORD? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?
12 You stretched out your right hand. The earth swallowed them. You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them. “You stretch out your right hand, and the earth swallows your enemies.
13 |Lovingly, you will lead the people you have saved. Powerfully, you will guide them to your holy dwelling. “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.
14 People will hear of it and tremble. The people of Philistia will be in anguish. The peoples have heard; they tremble; pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia. The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia.
15 The tribal leaders of Edom will be terrified. The powerful men of Moab will tremble. The people of Canaan will be deathly afraid. Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away;
16 Terror and dread will fall on them. Because of the power of your arm, they will be petrified until your people pass by, O LORD, until the people you purchased pass by. Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone, till your people, O LORD, pass by, till the people pass by whom you have purchased. terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone— until your people pass by, LORD, until the people you bought pass by.
17 You will bring them and plant them on your own mountain, the place where you live, O LORD, the holy place that you built with your own hands, O Lord. You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain, the place, O LORD, which you have made for your abode, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance— the place, LORD, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established.
18 The LORD will rule as king forever and ever.| The LORD will reign forever and ever.” “The LORD reigns for ever and ever.”
19 When Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and cavalry went into the sea, the LORD made the water of the sea flow back over them. However, the Israelites had gone through the sea on dry ground. For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
20 Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand. All the women, dancing with tambourines, followed her. Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing.
21 Miriam sang to them: |Sing to the LORD. He has won a glorious victory. 22 Moses led Israel away from the Red Sea into the desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.
23 When they came to Marah, they couldn't drink the water because it tasted bitter. That's why the place was called Marah [Bitter Place]. When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.)
24 The people complained about Moses by asking, |What are we supposed to drink?| And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
25 Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD set down laws and rules for them to live by, and there he tested them. And he cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the LORD issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.
26 He said, |If you will listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what he considers right, if you pay attention to his commands and obey all his laws, I will never make you suffer any of the diseases I made the Egyptians suffer, because I am the LORD, who heals you.| saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.” He said, “If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”
27 Next, they went to Elim, where there were 12 springs and 70 palm trees. They camped there by the water. Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there by the water.
