1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD. They said: I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted; he has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea. Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, “I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.
2 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. “The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
3 The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name. The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name. The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.
4 He threw Pharaoh’s chariots and his army into the sea; the elite of his officers were drowned in the Red Sea. “Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he cast into the sea, and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea. Pharaoh’s chariots and his army he has hurled into the sea. The best of Pharaoh’s officers are drowned in the Red Sea.
5 The floods covered them; they sank to the depths like a stone. The floods covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone. The deep waters have covered them; they sank to the depths like a stone.
6 LORD, your right hand is glorious in power. LORD, your right hand shattered the enemy. Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy. Your right hand, LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, LORD, shattered the enemy.
7 You overthrew your adversaries by your great majesty. You unleashed your burning wrath; it consumed them like stubble. In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble. “In the greatness of your majesty you threw down those who opposed you. 8 The water heaped up at the blast from your nostrils; the currents stood firm like a dam. The watery depths congealed in the heart of the sea. At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up; the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea. By the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters stood up like a wall; the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said: “I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil. My desire will be gratified at their expense. I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.” The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’ The enemy boasted, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and my hand will destroy them.’
10 But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters. But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11 LORD, who is like you among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders? “Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? 12 You stretched out your right hand, and the earth swallowed them. You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them. “You stretch out your right hand, and the earth swallows your enemies.
13 With your faithful love, you will lead the people you have redeemed; you will guide them to your holy dwelling with your strength. “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.
14 When the peoples hear, they will shudder; anguish will seize the inhabitants of Philistia. The peoples have heard; they tremble; pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia. The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia.
15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified; trembling will seize the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan will panic; Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away;
16 terror and dread will fall on them. They will be as still as a stone because of your powerful arm until your people pass by, LORD, until the people whom you purchased pass by. Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone, till your people, O LORD, pass by, till the people pass by whom you have purchased. terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone— until your people pass by, LORD, until the people you bought pass by.
17 You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your possession; LORD, you have prepared the place for your dwelling; Lord, your hands have established the sanctuary. You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain, the place, O LORD, which you have made for your abode, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance— the place, LORD, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established.
18 The LORD will reign forever and ever! The LORD will reign forever and ever.” “The LORD reigns for ever and ever.”
19 When Pharaoh’s horses with his chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the water of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
20 Then the prophetess Miriam, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women came out following her with tambourines and dancing. Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 Miriam sang to them: Sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted; he has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea. 22 Then Moses led Israel on from the Red Sea, and they went out to the Wilderness of Shur. They journeyed for three days in the wilderness without finding water. Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.
23 They came to Marah, but they could not drink the water at Marah because it was bitter—that is why it was named Marah. When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.)
24 The people grumbled to Moses, “What are we going to drink? ” And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
25 So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he threw it into the water, the water became drinkable. The LORD made a statute and ordinance for them at Marah, and he tested them there. And he cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the LORD issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.
26 He said, “If you will carefully obey the LORD your God, do what is right in his sight, pay attention to his commands, and keep all his statutes, I will not inflict any illnesses on you that I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.” He said, “If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”
27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy date palms, and they camped there by the water.
