וְשַׁ֣בְתִּֽי
אֲנִ֗י
וָאֶרְאֶה֙
אֶת־

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

Again I looked,
and I
considered
all
the oppression
taking place
under
the sun.
I saw
the tears
of the oppressed,
and they had no
comforter;
the power lay
in the hands
of their oppressors,
and there was no
comforter.
So I returned,
and considered
all the oppressions
that are done
under the sun:
and behold the tears
of [such as were] oppressed,
and they had no comforter;
and on the side
of their oppressors
[there was] power;
but they had no comforter.

So I
admired
the dead,
who had already
died,
above
the living,
who
are still
alive.
Wherefore I praised
the dead
which are already
dead
more than the living
which are yet
alive.

But better
than both
is he who
has not

who

under
the sun.
Yea, better
[is he] than both
they, which hath not yet
been, who hath not seen
the evil
work
that is done
under the sun.

I
saw
that all
labor
and
success
spring from
a man’s
envy
of his neighbor.
This
too
is futile
and a pursuit
of the wind.
Again, I considered
all travail,
and every right
work,
that for this a man
is envied
of his neighbour.
This [is] also vanity
and vexation
of spirit.

The fool

Better

than two handfuls

Better
[is] an handful
[with] quietness,
than both the hands
full
[with] travail
and vexation
of spirit.

Again,
I

Then I returned,
and I saw
vanity

There is
a
man all alone,
without

And though there is no
end
to his labor,
his eyes
are still
not
content
with his wealth:
“For whom
do I
toil
and bereave
my soul
of enjoyment?”
This
too
is futile—
a miserable
task.
There is
one
[alone], and [there is] not a second;
yea, he hath neither child
nor brother:
yet [is there] no end
of all his labour;
neither is his eye
satisfied
with riches;
neither [saith he], For whom do I labour,
and bereave
my soul
of good?
This [is] also vanity,
yea, it [is] a sore
travail.

Two

Two

because they have

For
if
one
falls down,
his companion
can lift him up;
but pity
the one
who falls
without
another
to help him up!
For if they fall,
the one
will lift up
his fellow:
but woe
to him [that is] alone
when he falleth;
for [he hath] not another

Again,
if

they will keep warm;
but how

Again,
if two

then they have heat:
but how can one

[There is] no end

and vexation
of spirit.
