“You shall not see your brother’s ox or his sheep going astray and ignore them. You shall take them back to your brother. You shall not see your neighbor’s ox or sheep going astray and ignore it; you must bring it back. If you see your fellow Israelite’s ox or sheep straying, do not ignore it but be sure to take it back to its owner.
And if he does not live near you and you do not know who he is, you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall stay with you until your brother seeks it. Then you shall restore it to him. If this neighbor does not live near you, or you do not know who the owner may be, take it to your own house and keep it with you until your neighbor claims it; then return it. If they do not live near you or if you do not know who owns it, take it home with you and keep it until they come looking for it. Then give it back.
And you shall do the same with his donkey or with his garment, or with any lost thing of your brother’s, which he loses and you find; you may not ignore it. You shall do the same with a donkey; you shall do the same with a garment; and you shall do the same with anything else which your neighbor loses and you happen to find. You may not ignore them. Do the same if you find their donkey or cloak or anything else they have lost. Do not ignore it.
You shall not see your brother’s donkey or his ox fallen down by the way and ignore them. You shall help him to lift them up again. You shall not see your neighbor’s donkey or ox fallen on the road and ignore it; you must help in lifting it up. If you see your fellow Israelite’s donkey or ox fallen on the road, do not ignore it. Help the owner get it to its feet.
“A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God. A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for anyone who does such things is an abomination to the LORD, your God. A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.
“If you come across a bird’s nest in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs and the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young. If, while walking along, you come across a bird’s nest with young birds or eggs in it, in any tree or on the ground, and the mother bird is sitting on them, you shall not take away the mother bird along with her brood. If you come across a bird’s nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young.
You shall let the mother go, but the young you may take for yourself, that it may go well with you, and that you may live long. You must let the mother go, taking only her brood, in order that you shall prosper and have a long life. You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life.
“When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring the guilt of blood upon your house, if anyone should fall from it. When you build a new house, put a parapet around the roof, so that you do not bring bloodguilt upon your house if someone falls off. When you build a new house, make a parapet around your roof so that you may not bring the guilt of bloodshed on your house if someone falls from the roof.
“You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the whole yield be forfeited, the crop that you have sown and the yield of the vineyard. You shall not sow your vineyard with two different kinds of seed, or else its produce shall become forfeit, both the crop you have sown and the yield of the vineyard. Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard; if you do, not only the crops you plant but also the fruit of the vineyard will be defiled.
You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together. You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey harnessed together. Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together.
You shall not wear cloth of wool and linen mixed together. You shall not wear cloth made from wool and linen woven together. Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.
“You shall make yourself tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself. You shall put tassels on the four corners of the cloak that you wrap around yourself. Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear.
“If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then hates her If a man, after marrying a woman and having relations with her, comes to dislike her, If a man takes a wife and, after sleeping with her, dislikes her
and accuses her of misconduct and brings a bad name upon her, saying, ‘I took this woman, and when I came near her, I did not find in her evidence of virginity,’ and accuses her of misconduct and slanders her by saying, “I married this woman, but when I approached her I did not find evidence of her virginity,” and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, “I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity,”
then the father of the young woman and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of her virginity to the elders of the city in the gate. the father and mother of the young woman shall take the evidence of her virginity and bring it to the elders at the city gate. then the young woman’s father and mother shall bring to the town elders at the gate proof that she was a virgin.
And the father of the young woman shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man to marry, and he hates her; There the father of the young woman shall say to the elders, “I gave my daughter to this man in marriage, but he has come to dislike her, Her father will say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her.
and behold, he has accused her of misconduct, saying, “I did not find in your daughter evidence of virginity.” And yet this is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.’ And they shall spread the cloak before the elders of the city. and now accuses her of misconduct, saying: ‘I did not find evidence of your daughter’s virginity.’ But here is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity!” And they shall spread out the cloth before the elders of the city. Now he has slandered her and said, ‘I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.’ But here is the proof of my daughter’s virginity.” Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town,
Then the elders of that city shall take the man and whip him, Then these city elders shall take the man and discipline him, and the elders shall take the man and punish him.
and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought a bad name upon a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife. He may not divorce her all his days. and fine him one hundred silver shekels, which they shall give to the young woman’s father, because the man slandered a virgin in Israel. She shall remain his wife, and he may not divorce her as long as he lives. They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.
But if the thing is true, that evidence of virginity was not found in the young woman, But if this charge is true, and evidence of the young woman’s virginity is not found, If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found,
then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done an outrageous thing in Israel by whoring in her father’s house. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. they shall bring the young woman to the entrance of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death, because she committed a shameful crime in Israel by prostituting herself in her father’s house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done an outrageous thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.
“If a man is found lying with the wife of another man, both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman. So you shall purge the evil from Israel. If a man is discovered lying with a woman who is married to another, they both shall die, the man who was lying with the woman as well as the woman. Thus shall you purge the evil from Israel. If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.
“If there is a betrothed virgin, and a man meets her in the city and lies with her, If there is a young woman, a virgin who is betrothed, and a man comes upon her in the city and lies with her, If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her,
then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbor’s wife. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. you shall bring them both out to the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the young woman because she did not cry out though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbor’s wife. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you.
“But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. But if it is in the open fields that a man comes upon the betrothed young woman, seizes her and lies with her, only the man who lay with her shall die. But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die.
But you shall do nothing to the young woman; she has committed no offense punishable by death. For this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor, You shall do nothing to the young woman, since the young woman is not guilty of a capital offense. As when a man rises up against his neighbor and murders him, so in this case: Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders a neighbor,
because he met her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her. it was in the open fields that he came upon her, and though the betrothed young woman may have cried out, there was no one to save her. for the man found the young woman out in the country, and though the betrothed woman screamed, there was no one to rescue her.
“If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, If a man comes upon a young woman, a virgin who is not betrothed, seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered, If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered,
then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days. the man who lay with her shall give the young woman’s father fifty silver shekels and she will be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her as long as he lives. he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
“A man shall not take his father’s wife, so that he does not uncover his father’s nakedness. A man shall not marry his father’s wife, nor shall he dishonor his father’s bed. A man is not to marry his father’s wife; he must not dishonor his father’s bed.
