1	And Saul was consenting to his being killed. And on that day there arose a great persecution against the assembly which was in Jerusalem, and all were scattered into the countries of Judaea and Samaria except the apostles.	And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.	And Saul approved of their killing him. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.
2	And pious men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him.	Devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him.	Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him.
3	But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into the houses one after another, and dragging off both men and women delivered them up to prison.	But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.	But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.
4	Those then that had been scattered went through [the countries] announcing the glad tidings of the word.	Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word.	Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.
5	And Philip, going down to a city of Samaria, preached the Christ to them;	Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.	Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there.
6	and the crowds with one accord gave heed to the things spoken by Philip, when they heard [him] and saw the signs which he wrought.	And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did.	When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said.
7	For from many who had unclean spirits they went out, crying with a loud voice; and many that were paralysed and lame were healed.	For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed.	For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed.
8	And there was great joy in that city.	So there was much joy in that city.	So there was great joy in that city.
9	But a certain man, by name Simon, had been before in the city, using magic arts, and astonishing the nation of Samaria, saying that himself was some great one.	But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great.	Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,
10	To whom they had all given heed, from small to great, saying, This is the power of God which is called great.	They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called Great.”	and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.”
11	And they gave heed to him, because that for a long time he had astonished them by his magic arts.	And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic.	They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery.
12	But when they believed Philip announcing the glad tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptised, both men and women.	But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.	But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13	And Simon also himself believed; and, having been baptised, continued constantly with Philip; and, beholding the signs and great works of power which took place, was astonished.	Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed.	Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
14	And the apostles who were in Jerusalem, having heard that Samaria had received the word of God, sent to them Peter and John;	Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John,	When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria.
15	who, having come down, prayed for them that they might receive [the] Holy Spirit;	who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,	When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
16	for he was not yet fallen upon any of them, only they were baptised to the name of the Lord Jesus.	for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.	because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
17	Then they laid their hands upon them, and they received [the] Holy Spirit.	Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.	Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18	But Simon, having seen that by the laying on of the hands of the apostles the [Holy] Spirit was given, offered them money,	Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,	When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money
19	saying, Give to me also this power, in order that on whomsoever I may lay hands he may receive [the] Holy Spirit.	saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”	and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
20	And Peter said to him, Thy money go with thee to destruction, because thou hast thought that the gift of God can be obtained by money.	But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!	Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!
21	Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not upright before God.	You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.	You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.
22	Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and supplicate the Lord, if indeed the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee;	Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.	Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.
23	for I see thee to be in the gall of bitterness, and bond of unrighteousness.	For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.”	For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”
24	And Simon answering said, Supplicate ye for me to the Lord, so that nothing may come upon me of the things of which ye have spoken.	And Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”	Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”
25	They therefore, having testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and announced the glad tidings to many villages of the Samaritans.	Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.	After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
26	But [the] angel of [the] Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Rise up and go southward on the way which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza: the same is desert.	Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place.	Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”
27	And he rose up and went. And lo, an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a man in power under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to worship at Jerusalem,	And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship	So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,
28	was returning and sitting in his chariot: and he was reading the prophet Esaias.	and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.	and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet.
29	And the Spirit said to Philip, Approach and join this chariot.	And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.”	The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”
30	And Philip, running up, heard him reading the prophet Esaias, and said, Dost thou then know what thou art reading of?	So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”	Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
31	And he said, How should I then be able unless some one guide me? And he begged Philip to come up and sit with him.	And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.	“How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32	And the passage of the scripture which he read was this: He was led as a sheep to slaughter, and as a lamb is dumb in presence of him that shears him, thus he opens not his mouth.	Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: “Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth.	This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
33	In his humiliation his judgment has been taken away, and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.	In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth.”	In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.”
34	And the eunuch answering Philip said, I pray thee, concerning whom does the prophet say this? of himself or of some other?	And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?”	The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?”
35	And Philip, opening his mouth and beginning from that scripture, announced the glad tidings of Jesus to him.	Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.	Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
36	And as they went along the way, they came upon a certain water, and the eunuch says, Behold water; what hinders my being baptised?	And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”	As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”

38	And he commanded the chariot to stop. And they went down both to the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptised him.	And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.	And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
39	But when they came up out of the water [the] Spirit of [the] Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no longer, for he went on his way rejoicing.	And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.	When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.
40	And Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through he announced the glad tidings to all the cities till he came to Caesarea.	But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.	Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.
