1 And when the day of Pentecost was, they were all with one accorde in one place: When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2 And sodenly there came a sounde fro heauen, as it had ben the commyng of a mightie wynde, and it fylled all the house where they sate. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared vnto them clouen tongues, lyke as they had ben of fyre, and it sate vpon eche one of them. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
4 And they were all fylled with the holy ghost, and began to speake with other tongues, as the spirite gaue them vtteraunce. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 There were dwellyng at Hierusalem, Iewes, deuout men, out of euery nation of them that are vnder heauen. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.
6 When this was noysed about, the multitude came together and were astonnyed, because that euery man hearde them speake with his owne language. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.
7 They wondred all, and marueyled, saying among themselues: Beholde, are not all these which speake, of Galilee? And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?
8 And howe heare we euery man his owne tongue, wherin we were borne? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?
9 Parthians, and Medes, & Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Iurie, and in Capadocia, in Pontus and Asia, Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 Phrygia, & Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parties of Lybia, which is besyde Cyrene, & straungers of Rome, Iewes and Proselytes. 11 Cretes and Arabians: we haue hearde them speake in our tongues, the wonderfull workes of God. both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”
12 They were all amased, and wondred, saying one to another: What meaneth this? And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Other mocked, saying: These men are full of newe wyne. But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.” Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
14 But Peter standyng foorth with the eleuen, lyft vp his voyce, and sayde vnto them: Ye men of Iurie, and all ye that dwell at Hierusalem, be this knowen vnto you, and with your eares heare my wordes. But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeyng it is but the thirde houre of the day. For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophete Ioel: But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel: No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 And it shalbe in the last dayes (sayth God) of my spirite I wyll powre out vpon all fleshe: And your sonnes and your daughters shall prophesie, and your young men shall see visions, and your olde men shall dreame dreames. “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; “’In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
18 And on my seruauntes, and on my handemaydens, I wyll powre out of my spirite in those dayes, and they shall prophesie. even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
19 And I wyll shewe wonders in heauen aboue, and tokens in the earth beneath, blood, and fyre, and the vapour of smoke. And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The Sunne shalbe turned into darknesse, and the Moone into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come. the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And it shall come to passe, that whosoeuer shall call on the name of the Lorde, shalbe saued. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
22 Ye men of Israel, heare these wordes: Iesus of Nazareth, a man approued of God among you, with miracles, wonders, and signes, which God dyd by hym in the middes of you, as ye your selues also knowe. “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.
23 Hym haue ye taken, by the handes of vnryghteous persons, after he was deliuered by the determinate councell and foreknowledge of God, and haue crucified and slayne hym. this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
24 Whom God hath raised vp, and loosed the sorowes of death, because it was vnpossible, that he shoulde be holden of it. God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
25 For Dauid speaketh of hym, I sawe the Lorde alwayes set foorth before my face: for he is on my ryght hande, that I shoulde not be moued. For David says concerning him, “‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; David said about him: “’I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
26 Therfore dyd my heart reioyce, and my tongue was glad. Moreouer also my fleshe shall reste in hope, therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope,
27 Because thou wylt not leaue my soule in hell, neither wylt thou suffer thyne holy one to see corruption. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption. because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, you will not let your holy one see decay.
28 Thou hast shewed me the wayes of lyfe, thou shalt make me full of ioy with thy countenaunce. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’ You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’
29 Ye men and brethren, let me freely speake vnto you of the patriarke Dauid: For he is both dead and buryed, and his sepulchre remayneth with vs vnto this day. “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.
30 Therfore, seeyng he was a prophete, and knewe that God had sworne with an oth to hym, that Christe, as concernyng the fleshe, should come of the fruite of his loynes, & should syt on his seate: Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.
31 He knowyng this before, spake of the resurrection of Christe, that his soule shoulde not be left in hell, neither his fleshe shoulde see corruption. he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.
32 This Iesus hath God raysed vp, wherof we all are witnesses. This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.
33 Then sence that he by the ryght hande of God was exalted, and hath receaued of the father the promise of the holy ghost, he hath shed foorth this, which ye nowe see, and heare. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
34 For Dauid is not ascended into heaue, but he sayeth: The Lorde sayde to my Lorde, syt thou on my ryght, For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “’The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
35 Untill I make thy foes thy footstoole. until I make your enemies your footstool.”’ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.|’
36 Therfore, let all the house of Israel know for a suretie, that God hath made that same Iesus, whom ye haue crucified, Lorde and Christe. Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
37 Nowe when they hearde this, they were pricked in their heartes, and sayde vnto Peter, & vnto the other Apostles: Ye men & brethren, what shall we do? Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38 Then Peter sayde vnto them: Repent, and be baptized euery one of you in the name of Iesus Christe, for the remission of sinnes, and ye shall receaue the gyft of the holy ghost. And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise was made vnto you, and to your chyldren, and to all that are a farre of, euen as many as the Lorde our God shall call. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 And with many other wordes bare he witnesse, and exhorted them, saying: Saue your selues from this vntowarde generation. And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
41 Then they that gladly receaued his worde, were baptized: And the same day there were added vnto them, about three thousande soules. So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
42 And they continued stedfastly in the Apostles doctrine and felowship, and in breakyng of bread, and in prayers. And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And feare came vpon euery soule. And many wonders and signes were done by the Apostles. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.
44 And all that beleued, kept them selues together, and had all thynges common, And all who believed were together and had all things in common. All the believers were together and had everything in common.
45 And solde their possessions & goodes, and parted them to all men, as euery man had neede. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.
46 And they continued dayly with one accorde in the temple, and brake bread from house to house, and dyd eate their meate together, with gladnesse and singlenesse of heart, And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47 Praysyng God, & had fauour with all the people. And the Lorde added to the Churche dayly, such as should be saued. praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
