1 Now it happened when the king inhabited his house, and Yahweh had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, Now when the king lived in his house and the LORD had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, After the king was settled in his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him,
2 that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I inhabit a house of cedar, but the ark of God inhabits tent curtains.” the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.” he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”
3 So Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for Yahweh is with you.” And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.” Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the LORD is with you.”
4 Now it happened in the same night, that the word of Yahweh came to Nathan, saying, But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, But that night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying:
5 “Go and say to My servant David, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “Are you the one who would build Me a house to inhabit? “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD: Would you build me a house to dwell in? “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?
6 For I have not inhabited a house since the day I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt, even to this day; but I have been going about in a tent, even in a tabernacle. I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling.
7 Wherever I have gone about with all the sons of Israel, did I speak a word with one of the tribes of Israel, which I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’”’ In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”’ Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?|’
8 So now, thus you shall say to My servant David, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts, “I Myself took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel. Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.
9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.
10 And I will appoint a place for My people Israel and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and not be disturbed again; and the unrighteous will not afflict them any more as formerly, And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning
11 even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Yahweh also declares to you that Yahweh will make a house for you. from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. “’The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you:
12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up one of your seed after you, who will come forth from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
14 I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will reprove him with the rod of men and the strikes from the sons of men, I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands.
15 but My lovingkindness shall not be removed from him, as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
16 And your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.”’” And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’” Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”
17 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David. In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David. Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
18 Then David the king went in and sat before Yahweh, and he said, “Who am I, O Lord Yahweh, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far? Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
19 And yet this was a small thing in Your eyes, O Lord Yahweh, for You have spoken also of the house of Your slave concerning the distant future. And this is the law of man, O Lord Yahweh. And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O Lord GOD. You have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and this is instruction for mankind, O Lord GOD! And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign LORD, is for a mere human!
20 And again what more can David say to You? And You know Your slave, O Lord Yahweh! And what more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Lord GOD! “What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign LORD.
21 For the sake of Your word, and according to Your own heart, You have done all this greatness to let Your slave know. Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it. For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant.
22 For this reason You are great, O Lord Yahweh; for there is none like You, and there is no God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. Therefore you are great, O LORD God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. “How great you are, Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
23 And what one nation on the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people and to make a name for Himself, and to do a great thing for You and awesome things for Your land, before Your people whom You have redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, from nations and their gods? And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name and doing for them great and awesome things by driving out before your people, whom you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods? And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?
24 Yet You have established for Yourself Your people Israel as Your own people forever, and You, O Yahweh, have become their God. And you established for yourself your people Israel to be your people forever. And you, O LORD, became their God. You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, LORD, have become their God.
25 So now, O Yahweh God, the word that You have spoken concerning Your slave and concerning his house, establish it forever, and do as You have spoken, And now, O LORD God, confirm forever the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, and do as you have spoken. “And now, LORD God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised,
26 that Your name may be magnified forever, by saying, ‘Yahweh of hosts is God over Israel’; and the house of Your servant David shall be established before You. And your name will be magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of hosts is God over Israel,’ and the house of your servant David will be established before you. so that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The LORD Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of your servant David will be established in your sight.
27 For You, O Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, have revealed in the hearing of Your slave, saying, ‘I will build you a house’; therefore Your slave has found courage in his heart to pray this prayer to You. For you, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have made this revelation to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. “LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you.’ So your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you.
28 So now, O Lord Yahweh, You are God, and Your words are truth, and You have promised this good thing to Your slave. And now, O Lord GOD, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.
29 So now, be pleased and bless the house of Your slave, that it may be forever before You. For You, O Lord Yahweh, have spoken; and with Your blessing may the house of Your slave be blessed forever.” Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord GOD, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.” Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”
