Isaiah 26
NLT Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationKing James Bible
In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation.1In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks.
Open the gates to all who are righteous; allow the faithful to enter.2Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!3Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD God is the eternal Rock.4Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
He humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust.5For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust.
The poor and oppressed trample it underfoot, and the needy walk all over it.6The foot shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.
But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.7The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.
LORD, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name.8Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.
In the night I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek you. For only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right.9With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
Your kindness to the wicked does not make them do good. Although others do right, the wicked keep doing wrong and take no notice of the LORD’s majesty.10Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.
O LORD, they pay no attention to your upraised fist. Show them your eagerness to defend your people. Then they will be ashamed. Let your fire consume your enemies.11LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them.
LORD, you will grant us peace; all we have accomplished is really from you.12LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.
O LORD our God, others have ruled us, but you alone are the one we worship.13O LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
Those we served before are dead and gone. Their departed spirits will never return! You attacked them and destroyed them, and they are long forgotten.14They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.
O LORD, you have made our nation great; yes, you have made us great. You have extended our borders, and we give you the glory!15Thou hast increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified: thou hadst removed it far unto all the ends of the earth.
LORD, in distress we searched for you. We prayed beneath the burden of your discipline.16LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.
Just as a pregnant woman writhes and cries out in pain as she gives birth, so were we in your presence, LORD.17Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.
We, too, writhe in agony, but nothing comes of our suffering. We have not given salvation to the earth, nor brought life into the world.18We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
But those who die in the LORD will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life-giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead! Restoration for Israel19Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Go home, my people, and lock your doors! Hide yourselves for a little while until the LORD’s anger has passed.20Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
Look! The LORD is coming from heaven to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will no longer hide those who have been killed. They will be brought out for all to see.21For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
